Media and Blog Articles
EmBee suggested that it would be good if there was a thread for new articles, so that people would be aware of where to comment. So, I created this permanent page. You could mention such articles in the comment stream for this page, or if I see one on another thread, I can copy the link to here. I’ll keep adding to the list, but not deleting, so we’ll end up having sort of a “bibliography” of FATCA/CBT articles. [Note: Some articles are not open for comments]
For more articles on FATCA, enter FATCA into Google then click on the link “more news for fatca” just below the most recent featured article.
Note also: JC suggests to see #FATCA on Twitter for latest breaking news. JC finds that is quite a good source and there even are some international articles that one may read using Google Translate.” Others may help certain tweets and articles remain in elevated position by retweeting them.
Be sure to read the comment stream for this thread — there are usually very recent articles mentioned there that aren’t on this list yet.

So this makes me think. We could have some kind of award made for a set of US congressmen etc who we think have contributed to a lot of pain for expats and immigrants. Those pushing FATCA, sec 877A etc etc.
You know like ‘Isaac Brock society recognizes you for your none-stop efforts to make the lives of US expats and successful immigrants a living hell’. All kind of nice and shinny etc. Can’t be expensive to have that done. Then mail them to them.

That’s brilliant, Neil. We could call it the FUBAR award.

Canadian First Nations slowly realizing that Justin Trudeau is all about style, doesn’t deliver on the substance end:

According to the report it’s not clear that there’s a connection between the sudden volatility and the new due diligence rules. Just one possible factor being speculated about.

Sunny boy Trudeau will have his minions fight tooth and nail for Canadian softwood lumber (but under his orders – and contrary to FIbbin Lib protestations pre-election; ordinary Canadians with local legal Canadian savings who have any US taint will still be denied justice – and our local tax revenues continue to be abused in order to uphold the law of a foreign country – as ‘our’ Prime Minister continues to defend the extraterritorial US law FATCA – empowering our CRA arm of the IRS in oppressing law-abiding Canadians living, working, and saving on our own sovereign soil.
Softwood lumber apparently has more rights than we do, and Chrystia Freeland will make sure that the lumber industries rights are protected – even up to the WTO:

Not to be outdone, the CONs organize themselves into a ‘task force’ to make sure that the rights of Canadian wood is respected by the Liberals (but still don’t give a damn for the constitutional and Charter rights of Canadian citizens and residents trampled under their FATCA IGA).
See;
“………. a task force the Conservative opposition has formed “to hold the Liberal government to account for solving the softwood lumber trade dispute with the United States.”
“We are a group of MPs who are tired of the Liberal government mismanaging this very important file,” Doherty said in a statement issued Monday.
“We will make sure the Liberals don’t forget about the workers and communities affected by their trade war.
“We will talk to companies, workers and community leaders from coast to coast to coast, bring them together, and see if we can chart a path forward to solve this problem.”…….

Beware More FBAR And FATCA Reporting Changes / Robert W. Wood
http://www.forbes.com/sites/robertwood/2016/10/19/beware-more-fbar-and-fatca-reporting-changes/#1e4a9ba61119
Another opportunity to raise the hypocrisy inherent in Trudeau’s assistance with and defence of (at Canadian taxpayer expense) the predatory extraterritorial US claims on the legal, local savings, and financial and private data belonging to Canadian individuals and families are of no concern to the Canadian govenment, whereas Trudeau (and the previous Cons of Harper) are willing to sink years and billions into fighting for the rights of Canadian lumber:
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/rob-commentary/the-softwood-lumber-war-is-back-so-prepare-for-a-long-fight/article32422514/
” ……… This lumber mess could eventually turn out to be Mr. Trudeau’s worst nightmare. Not only does it have the potential to aggravate further federal-provincial relations, but it could also poison bilateral relations with whoever occupies the White House in late January. More important, this dispute could very easily drag on for several years and create all kinds of headaches for the federal Liberals in the 2019 election campaign.”
Apparently the US FATCA extortion of Canadian families and Canadian financial sector and the abrogation of our Charter and civil rights isn’t enough to get the Trudeau government to assist the Canadian citizens and residents he swore to serve, but the lumber trade is.
An opportunity to post counter comments – and tell the US that it would be “great”/er if it stopped its extraterritorial claims to the assets and people of other sovereign nations like Canada and stop extorting us via FATCA.

I don’t twitter but if I could I’d counter the sappy Canada hearts the USA pap with … America is NOT great when it extends its graspy IRS fingers across the border – REPEAL #FATCA
[sigh] … Wish we had a Brock tweet team that could swoop in when this sort of thing is trending on Twitter. That CBC article, those tweets … makes me think Canadians have absorbed way too much American propaganda.
@Embee, even before I found out about the abusive regime of US extraterritorial CBT, FBAR and FATCA, I really couldn’t stand that kind of fawning. The uncritical US imperial outsized national ego doesn’t need feeding. It needs thoughtful objective criticism and evaluation, and frank talk to try and rein in the abuses of power it indulges itself in by way of wielding its power in the world, and challenge the myopic who see the US as the center of the universe by some kind of divine right – if they see the rest of the world at all.
And I can’t stand the uncritical Canadian national myth making machine either. While some of our sappy uncritical fellow Canadians are tweeting to make themselves and the US feel good, they are usefully distracted from considering events like this that don’t jive with their preferred image of themselves as polite and nicey nicey global citizens;
‘Canadian firm faces new forced labour claims over Eritrean mine’ “Dozens of Eritreans are to join a groundbreaking civil action in Canada as plaintiffs in a lawsuit against Nevsun Resources, which majority-owns the Bisha mine in north-west Eritrea, following a ruling last week………….”
https://www.theguardian.com/global-development/2016/oct/14/canadian-firm-nevsun-resources-new-forced-labour-claims-eritrea-bisha-mine
The true patriotic citizen is not an uncritical fawning one.
@ badger
Hear! Here! Get that down to 140 characters and you have a tweet which I wish someone would pass along at #tellamericaitsgreat.
Canadian mining company travesties are legion throughout the world … Honduras, Mexico, Haiti, Ecuador, Papua New Guinea, Congo and so on. It’s shameful.
@BAdger
AMEN! Like America needs an even bigger head.
The riveting AARO election debate in its entirety. Watch Joe Smallhoover on behalf of Democrats defend FATCA. Apologies if this is posted elsewhere.

@ Barbara
Fascinating find. George Yates made a terrific opening statement which rightly so focused on FATCA and CBT. Joe Smallhoover essentially justified FATCA by bringing in the fatcats-terrorists- cheaters trope.
@BC Doc – might be the harbinger of change, if the problem’s now under discussion
