Media and Blog Articles
EmBee suggested that it would be good if there was a thread for new articles, so that people would be aware of where to comment. So, I created this permanent page. You could mention such articles in the comment stream for this page, or if I see one on another thread, I can copy the link to here. I’ll keep adding to the list, but not deleting, so we’ll end up having sort of a “bibliography” of FATCA/CBT articles. [Note: Some articles are not open for comments]
For more articles on FATCA, enter FATCA into Google then click on the link “more news for fatca” just below the most recent featured article.
Note also: JC suggests to see #FATCA on Twitter for latest breaking news. JC finds that is quite a good source and there even are some international articles that one may read using Google Translate.” Others may help certain tweets and articles remain in elevated position by retweeting them.
Be sure to read the comment stream for this thread — there are usually very recent articles mentioned there that aren’t on this list yet.

EmBee, at the moment I have given up on future interactions (apart from litigation) with the Justin Trudeau Liberal Government — with one exception: If I can, I want to pursue publicly with these uncaring politicians, so terrified of the might of the United States, the single issue of the innocent Stanstead “border babies”.
@Deckard1138
Unfortunately the banks around our pathetic little globe view FATCA as “too big to fail” and the number of customers it affects as insignificant.
A year late, but Canada joins the AIIB. Now that they are poking the US’ eye, why not follow Israel and poke the other one?

Just testing to see what colour my WordPress assigned icon is today. Mine went from yellow to aqua last night, even though the e-mail address was typed correctly, same as always. Anyone else notice the changes?
One should not underestimate the value of the US blinking here.

What would the US do if the ADCS lawsuit prevails? Probably nothing as long as the Canadian government promises to appeal.
Oh, yes. Canada take note.
Court Bars Preparations to Share Tax Data With U.S.

@Barbara
I let my MP here in Canada know. I try to be succinct because I know as Parliamentary Secretary to Canada’s Foreign Minister she must be very busy. I wrote:
Dear Pam,
I have some great news for Canadians who hold US citizenship! Israel’s Supreme Court has placed an injunction against the implementation of FATCA in Israel on the assertion that it contradicts rights to privacy, property and equal treatment. Nor does the law have a compelling public purpose.
We hope that our government will abandon its protection of such a law and stop wasting taxpayer’s resources defending it. Does the Trudeau government wish to find itself on the wrong side of history on the equal treatment of all Canadians?
Is “a Canadian a Canadian a Canadian”?
Best regards,
[bubblebustin]
Argh. When you click the link I gave, you get prompted to subscribe. In order to read the full article, you need as usual to open Google News, and put in the search bar:
Court Bars Preparations to Share Tax Data With U.S.
Then Google will produce a link you can open.
Bubblebustin, it may be useful to print the article and sent it to your MP by post. I think it’s more likely to be read as hard copy anyway.
@Barbara,
Other stories covering this:
http://www.haaretz.com/israel-news/business/.premium-1.739683
Looks very promising.
@Neill, that was the link I gave. Trouble is, when I click on either my or your link, I need to subscribe to Haaretz to read it. The only workaround, as I said, is to search the full title of the article in Google News. Hopefully in a day or two there will be other reporting about this.
I’ve made a pdf of the Haaretz article that Barbara and Neill have linked to – in case you’re having trouble getting around the paywall.
@Barbara,
So it is the same link. sorry about that. Worked for me when I went there the first time.
“…..In response, the state argued that Israel’s failure to comply with FATCA by the deadline could create severe problems for Israeli banks and others.
“[Israeli] financial institutions could be cited as failing to comply with FATCA, which could immediately
undermine their ability to work with financial institutions in the U.S. and worldwide that would hesitate to work
with institutions regarded as not in compliance with FATCA,” the government’s attorneys told the court.”…..
The State in Israel and in Canada (the CONS and now the FibbinLibs) is in effect arguing that imaginary non-codified ‘rights’ of corporate financial institutions trump the very real, codified and nationally and internationally recognized human and civil rights of citizen and resident human beings. Siding with corporations like these http://www.cbc.ca/news/business/banking-fees-profits-1.3629701 vs. individuals like this one http://maplesandbox.ca/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/TD-Baby-Elle-Letter.pdf .
I promise to remember that Justin.
I like this bit:
‘The European Union is going to grab this money, instead of the US,” Schumer said. ”It’s a big signpost here for us. Let’s get moving.”
He added: ”We’re trying to protect our US tax base. That money sitting over there should be here in the US, not in Ireland and not in the EU.”
http://www.business-standard.com/article/international/outraged-by-apple-s-tax-dodge-then-now-by-its-tax-bill-116090200032_1.html
Schumer is a piece of work. So desperate are they for that overseas money that they couldn’t come to some agreement how how to change the tax code to let companies bring it back. Democrats were blocked by the desperate need to tax the deferred earnings that aren’t taxed by other nations and only get taxed for American corporations. They don’t want to let that money go. They accuse the EU of changing the tax code retro-actively while they themselves want to change the tax code to tax money that was deferred over decades.
Of course they consider this money part of the american tax base while it was already taxed int he countries it was earned since those countries have the right at first shot to tax that money.
I think what the EU is doing here is bad but they have a right to do it. The US is being massively hypocritical.
“Schumer is a piece of work.” — more like a piece of shit.
@Neill
“The US is being massively hypocritical”
In so many many MANY ways it hurts!
Actually, Bob, “shit” would be insulted that you would refer to Schumer as itself. At least “shit” is useful as manure and ports waste products out of animals and people’s systems so that they do not get ill. The same cannot be said for Schumer.
“The US is being massively hypocritical”
In so many many MANY ways it hurts!
Please don’t tempt me to figure out “how many many MANY ways”.
I think I have better things to do with my time (like take my camera out and go photograph…so that my blood pressure stays low and my mind stays rational).
@The Animal
What galls me to no end is that America has become the biggest tax haven of them all! All this rhetoric about tax evasion and those bad bad people who do this! (roll eyes)

Any of this sound familiar? This is rapidly becoming “Sonny’s Way”, unfortunately.
