Media and Blog Articles
EmBee suggested that it would be good if there was a thread for new articles, so that people would be aware of where to comment. So, I created this permanent page. You could mention such articles in the comment stream for this page, or if I see one on another thread, I can copy the link to here. I’ll keep adding to the list, but not deleting, so we’ll end up having sort of a “bibliography” of FATCA/CBT articles. [Note: Some articles are not open for comments]
For more articles on FATCA, enter FATCA into Google then click on the link “more news for fatca” just below the most recent featured article.
Note also: JC suggests to see #FATCA on Twitter for latest breaking news. JC finds that is quite a good source and there even are some international articles that one may read using Google Translate.” Others may help certain tweets and articles remain in elevated position by retweeting them.
Be sure to read the comment stream for this thread — there are usually very recent articles mentioned there that aren’t on this list yet.

Survey Roundup: U.S. Expats Factor the FACTA Burden
http://blogs.wsj.com/riskandcompliance/2016/01/08/survey-roundup-u-s-expats-factor-the-burden-of-facta/
Here, hear, USCitizenAbroad.
Next…
those born outside the USA to two U.S. citizen parents?
@USCitizenAbroad and calgary411, it will create more panic, and support the ignorant claims of people like the Con MP Keddy who stated that:
“…There seems to be some discussion, though, about who actually is an American citizen, and there is some confusion on the opposition benches on who an American citizen is. I’ve never heard the term “American person” before. You’re either an American citizen or you’re not an American citizen, or you’re a foreign entity working in the United States with a green card….”…

Ahh, Mr. (and I say that loosely) Keddy — brings back memories of *Just Renounce*…

Mr. (I say that loosely) Keddy. Brings back memories of *Just Renounce* as I re-visit http://isaacbrocksociety.ca/2014/10/23/its-time/comment-page-15/#comment-2024624
@USCitizenAbroad,
Ted Cruz’s citizenship is not disputed, He clearly is a citizen. The argument is if he is a ‘natural born; citizen.

Letter from Tim Kaine (D) Virginia to Treasury asking them what have they done about complaints from Americans abroad.

Nice to see at least one Democrat in Congress has heard our voice. Thanks for posting the letter, JC.
@JC,
Why doesn’t the guy ask his party why they enacted that crap in the first place? Why is he looking to a third party for answers to problems his party created.
@JC,
I see also that Americans Abroad is reaching out to educate him on same country exception. What a load of crap.
@Neill, just a shout out from across the pond. Thank you for hanging in there with all of us, it is appreciated and your comments/observations over time have helped others and helped me and my family.
Cheers, George
@Neill
*same country exception*
Cause it makes it look like they are doing something when in reality… they are doing nothing… same country bs is what it is… bs… when u first look at it… it looks good… if u think about it… it changes nothing… also… both parties do nothing for immigrants…. they seem to forget… immigrants may become naturalised or they have family who can vote… US treats immigrants… legal or not… as easy targets with no voice…
@George,
You in the UK? I am just ranting a bit. I hope these guys get hammered for what they put into law.
The Kaine letter is just trying to shift blame to others.
Obama can use executive action to try and change a bunch of stuff that meets his agenda but not once has he tried to change any of this tax bulldozer that’s running people over.
Of course I am ready for my political realization that even if the republicans get in they will just leave this stuff in place.
@US_Foreign_Person,
Yep. All it does is take away the filling requirements and one of the financial levers they can use to force you do do something. What we need is some sane tax laws were you can invest your money in a retirement account (and this includes all such accounts not just the blessed ones) in the country your currently working in and not have a gotcha tax trap to steel the money if you end up living some place else in the future.
thanks @JC for posting that letter from Kaine to Lew https://www.americansabroad.org/files/4214/5235/8198/tim-kaine-letter-to-treasury.pdf

Would be nice if renunciants who hailed from Virginia, or current Virginia voters from abroad would ask him why they’re forcing us to renounce or consider renouncing in order to get relief since no other avenues are available despite all the work that ACA and others have done. Even the DA Stepford Wives have raised the FATCA issues- this isn’t new.
Maybe Kaine can point out the difference between Lew, Pritzker and other Obama appointees’ offshore banking http://www.cnbc.com/id/100454907 http://www.mcclatchydc.com/news/politics-government/white-house/article24744763.html http://www.wsj.com/articles/SB10001424127887324906004578292574109861976 http://www.nytimes.com/2013/06/05/us/politics/trade-nominee-has-500000-in-cayman-islands.html http://www.wsj.com/articles /SB1021240866485552520 and our own LOCAL LEGAL ordinary accounts – which are fully transparent to our own LOCAL tax agencies.
And ask when the US will offer exact reciprocal exchange of info to other FATCA IGA signatories and via the OECD CRS now that the US is in the top 3 of ‘offshore’ tax haven hidey holes:

If you want to respond to Senator Kaine’s contact cited in the letter you can e-mail him at: ron_storhaug@kaine.senate.gov
It would be great if he could have a “heads up” from many of us. His questions to Lew are a bit naive. (The newly minted oxymoron of the day is: consumer friendly FATCA!!!!)
If anyone is interested, could you please post a comment on the Yucatan Times? I don’t believe that we have ever received a donation from Mexico and I suggested in a comment, published finally after one day, that US-tainted people in Mexico send a donation to http://www.adcs-adsc.ca to fund our lawsuit.
I asked people to donate to fund our lawsuit rather than support Ms. Ines Zemelman’s local tax compliance business.
My comment was I think posted by mistake (it is hiding under an ad) and has been assigned a value of “zero comment”. Please mention donations if you post a comment.

@Charl-
I sent a letter to ron_storhaug@kaine.senate.gov with title Why US Government forcing US persons living overseas to renounce their citizenship?
With reference here:
http://rachelheller.org/renouncing-under-duress/
@Calgary411 I suggest for consideration that blog from Rachel Heller for an IBS feature.
As part of renunciation, one must sign a statement that they have not done it under duress ! I suppose US goverment duress is not to be considered!
@Charl Twitter beckons. I think it is simpler than Facebook maybe because I am still am on training wheels at Facebook. In Twitter you may send a tweet direct to anyone on twitter. I think Facebook is a bit more indirect.
@JC Good on you for writing to Kaine. Mine is in the works. He MUST be made to actually understand this. His questions were clueless but at LEAST he wrote to Lew, that’s a starter.
Re Twitter: Interested in flying over and sitting with me for a bit? No one in my universe tweets. For some strange reason (because I am OLD prolly), Twitter intimidates/confuses me. I’d LOVE to learn though.
Stephen,
I have just submitted a comment as well. I see that a comment from Em Brock now appears.
It appears that the * 0 * show for the Facebook comments, with the direct comments there at the very end — very confusing and easily missed.
@ calgary411
Hmmm, wonder who that Em Brock is? 😉
