Media and Blog Articles
EmBee suggested that it would be good if there was a thread for new articles, so that people would be aware of where to comment. So, I created this permanent page. You could mention such articles in the comment stream for this page, or if I see one on another thread, I can copy the link to here. I’ll keep adding to the list, but not deleting, so we’ll end up having sort of a “bibliography” of FATCA/CBT articles. [Note: Some articles are not open for comments]
For more articles on FATCA, enter FATCA into Google then click on the link “more news for fatca” just below the most recent featured article.
Note also: JC suggests to see #FATCA on Twitter for latest breaking news. JC finds that is quite a good source and there even are some international articles that one may read using Google Translate.” Others may help certain tweets and articles remain in elevated position by retweeting them.
Be sure to read the comment stream for this thread — there are usually very recent articles mentioned there that aren’t on this list yet.

@OAP
I hear you, but how will Mr O’s boys force a Republican Congress to accept this?They are riding high with an influx of new money to Florida, Delaware etc..and if a lack of reciprocity is a problem for the rest of the world they still have the 30% blackmail in place .
Just in on CBC

That article pissed me off. I hope lots of Brockers give their 2 cents via the comment section.
That article pissed me off. I hope lots of Brockers give their 2 cents via the comment section. Mine is in moderation for some reason.
@WhiteKat
Yes, my head almost exploded over this one! My comment is marked: content disabled????? (Maybe because I put a link to the Jatras video)? Did you have any links?
Mines in moderation too
Cheryl, mine has no links and no bad words.
@WhiteCat. Mine had no links or bad language either. It has disappeared and doesn’t say “under moderation”???
Cheryl, weird. Perhaps try again. I’ve made 3 comments so far. All of them civil. All in moderation. Yet I see other people’s comments getting posted. Probably we have been on their ‘must moderate’ list from way back when.
WhiteCat. I also have made 3 comments, nothing bad in them and I have never commented at CBC before???
@Cheryl…weird. Its like the most informed commenters are not being allowed to comment.
Whitecat. My first one is in now.
Mine got posted (I’mabroad), but only after logging in.
Now mine’s in moderation…
just to piss off the moderators, I am posting more comments
This is weird. I just took a look and I’m not seeing yours, Bubblebustin (I’mabroad).
Also odd – FromPatriotToExpatriate started his comment with
“Continuing from the previous comment: Fourth, the court challenges are …”
but his previous comment isn’t showing.
I agree, WhiteKat, it does seem like the most informed people’s comments aren’t getting on
Don’t know how long/short your comments were, but I’m wondering Is it possible they have a length limit for comments, and if one is “too long,” instead of indicating that to the commenter, they just don’t show up?
pacifica, i have both long and short comments – none are showing. The length is controlled anyway and you cannot post a comment that is too long.
Oh, I just saw your 4:17 comment, Bubblebustin — that’s why I didn’t see it. And scratch my theory they might have an inefficient system for not posting comments over a certain length. It’s sounding more like they’re reading and pulling them.
@Pacifica. One of mine has shown up.
I’m Canadian
You do not mention that this is reporting detailed bank account information not only income on Canadian accounts of Canadian citizens with earnings only in Canada. What right does the U.S. Government have to this information. This is supposedly to help the U.S. Government stop tax evasion when it is now known the U. S. Is the world’s largest tax haven. Way to go liberals.
@pacifica I now have 4 short and of course very sweet (as usual) comments in moderation. If none of our comments show up we must somehow take the CBC to task for this.
Someone else posted a link that made it through moderation but they nuked my Jatras link. Wonder why?
One of mine finally showed up too:
What a bunch of BS excuses. The Liberal government knows full well that it is discriminating against Canadians simply because they were born south of the border. Some of these so-called ‘Americans’ have no American ancestry at all, but were born in USA to Canadian parents.
Most Canadians caught up in this witch hunt (even those who identify as American to some degree) had no clue they were US taxpayers on their Canadian income as this is such a unique, counter-intuitive taxation policy that no other countries (save USA and Eritrea) follow and for good reason. Taxation is for 99.9% of countries, based on whether or not you RESIDE IN THE COUNTRY, not where you were born. To single out Canadians with a US birthplace and send the private details of their bank accounts to a foreign country is obviously discrimination based on place of birth, and worse than that it sets these people up for grave harm because it won’t end there as this witch hunt is not really about tax collection as most Canadians owned by the USA would owe no taxes even if they filed.
The FATCA witch hunt is about PENALTIES. A little known fact is that Canadian US slaves (i.e. born in USA for whatever reason) are required to send annual reports to the FINANCIAL CRIMES ENFORCEMENT NETWORK (FINCEN) in the USA detailing their Canadian bank accounts which are deemed to be ‘foreign’ even if held up the street from where the US tainted Canadian lives. The penalties for NOT reporting to FINCEN are extremely harsh (i.e. will wipe out the account and then some). FATCA will shine a light on all those bad Canadians born in USA who have not been reporting their so-called ‘foreign’ bank accounts. For shame Liberal government. So much for ‘A Canadian is A Canadian is A Canadian.’
Now I am getting “CONTENT DISABLED” on at least one of my comments, yet there is nothing out of line with my words. CBC must be trying to skew the comments so as not to make this obviously one-sided against the government! This is what I wrote in response to another commenter who said “If you don’t like it then get off the fence and decide which country you want to commit your loyalty to and renounce the other passport.”
@Elmo Harris
The vast majority of Canadians deemed US citizens do not live with two feet in two countries. Most call Canada home, and work only in Canada. And most have been unaware that they are US taxpayers on their Canadian income, and that they are supposed to report in to the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network every year.
Now that more and more Canadians with clinging US nationality (think gum on bottom of shoe) are waking up to the fact that they are in fact owned by the USA and that the Canadian government apparently agrees, they are lining up in droves to renounce US citizenship. Unfortunately, USA has noticed this and has jacked the price of renunciation up from $0 (before FATCA) to $2,350 USD. And on top of this, Canadians owned by USA must agree upon renunciation that they are tax compliant with the USA. This means they have to enter some sort of amnesty program for criminals to get caught up on past tax compliance. Sounds easy? Nope it is not. For example, a single Canadian mutual fund is a ‘Passive Foreign Income Corporation’ in IRS speak. RESPs, TFSAs, RDSPs are ‘Foreign Trusts.’ So, unless you are a young Canadian who has no investments, you will quickly find that you are in the nub for 10’s of thousands in compliance fees (even with no tax owing) just to as you put it ‘get off the fence…and renounce.’
Does anyone have any other idea why a comment such as the above would get a ‘CONTENT DISABLED’ message? WTF? GRRRR….really mad now.
Maybe an undertone of anger is not acceptable at the CBC??? Not sure but they seem slow to moderate.
Cheryl, I don’t think that the comment that got “CONTENT DISABLED” sounded too angry.
