Media and Blog Articles
EmBee suggested that it would be good if there was a thread for new articles, so that people would be aware of where to comment. So, I created this permanent page. You could mention such articles in the comment stream for this page, or if I see one on another thread, I can copy the link to here. I’ll keep adding to the list, but not deleting, so we’ll end up having sort of a “bibliography” of FATCA/CBT articles. [Note: Some articles are not open for comments]
For more articles on FATCA, enter FATCA into Google then click on the link “more news for fatca” just below the most recent featured article.
Note also: JC suggests to see #FATCA on Twitter for latest breaking news. JC finds that is quite a good source and there even are some international articles that one may read using Google Translate.” Others may help certain tweets and articles remain in elevated position by retweeting them.
Be sure to read the comment stream for this thread — there are usually very recent articles mentioned there that aren’t on this list yet.

DOJ got a conviction against someone who is either (my wild guess/oversimplification)
(a) a guy who tried to go to OVDI, got booted out, and then had everything he said used against him in a court of law
(b) a quiet disclosurererer for a year in which he didn’t backfile

Objectives for comments.
I don’t think we will ever get a popular vote in our favour. So then objectives may be to build the community here and that should help fund the lawsuits. Build awareness of The Isaac Brock Society.

* Contribute to the lawsuits against FATCA and CBT – info at Isaac Brock Society.
A very self serving plea:

Pretty positive BBC article. The Rangel comments are unbelievable:
“The overall purpose of the law is to detect, deter and discourage offshore tax abuses through increased transparency, enhanced reporting and strong sanctions,” said a spokeswoman for Congressman Charles Rangel – one of those who introduced Fatca.
“The US Treasury worked tirelessly to address many of these problems, and most have been resolved. If there are still problems with the law, then I believe Congress should hold hearings to see how it can be improved.”

Ask the experts: must a US citizen pay tax on a London house sale?

Absurdly useless answer in the article (at least the guy writing it admits he knows nothing about US tax). No mention of the word phantom gains. Comments use Disqus.
This US citizen was living in the US. Nothing phantom about his gains. He has to pay US tax , as he should, since he lives in the US. Capital gains taxes are relatively low. The £ has fallen . He won’t pay much.
It’s CGT on a property that is not the main residence, which seems to be about 25%. That’s why all those NRI Indians are getting burned on their property dealings.
Don’t feel forced by Uncle Sam to give up your citizenship over FATCA, Americans abroad urged

Canadians should comment on this article today on Fox news “http://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2016/02/09/bernie-sanders-seems-to-love-canada-will.html?intcmp=hpbt1 and maybe suggest that if he loves it so much…maybe he should respect their sovereignty and stop forcing US laws on their people!!

@Charl
You can say that again. I wonder sometimes who these people are. There is something about the personality of the pro-CBT I have met in person that I can’t quite put my figure on. They are much less open. Is it authoritarian personality syndrome perhaps? “a cluster of personality traits reflecting a desire for security and order, for example, rigidity, highly conventional outlook, unquestioning obedience, scapegoating, desire for structured lines of authority.” People with this syndrome tend to see the world as a dangerous place and like the tried and true. Presenting them with facts that contradict their established beliefs makes them feel threatened and they dig in their heels. Punishments work in bringing them into compliance generally, but not with anti-authoritarians.
Unfortunately, these authoritarians can usually only be persuaded by a notable authority figure.

Wow, sounds as though John Richardson has made a convert out of Barrie McKenna!
@Charl
You and WhiteKat may recall that idiot homelander who used to show up in the Globe’s comment section. I think is was a she, but can’t remember her tag, but I think it might have had “red” in it. I hope she shows up.
@ Bubblebustin
Was it EricaAmerica or something like that?
@EmBee
Yes, I think so. Don’t know where I got “red” from – maybe Eric the Red?
Good memory!
@BB/EmBee I remember nothing, as usual!!! The only crab that still sticks in my craw is Ted Hunter.
