Media and Blog Articles
EmBee suggested that it would be good if there was a thread for new articles, so that people would be aware of where to comment. So, I created this permanent page. You could mention such articles in the comment stream for this page, or if I see one on another thread, I can copy the link to here. I’ll keep adding to the list, but not deleting, so we’ll end up having sort of a “bibliography” of FATCA/CBT articles. [Note: Some articles are not open for comments]
For more articles on FATCA, enter FATCA into Google then click on the link “more news for fatca” just below the most recent featured article.
Note also: JC suggests to see #FATCA on Twitter for latest breaking news. JC finds that is quite a good source and there even are some international articles that one may read using Google Translate.” Others may help certain tweets and articles remain in elevated position by retweeting them.
Be sure to read the comment stream for this thread — there are usually very recent articles mentioned there that aren’t on this list yet.

@JC, I put my DelBene in it earlier.
@BCDoc
I understand your sentiment. But I just didn’t have the luxury of that. Banks demanded proof. They knew I was a US citizen.
I needed a clean cut. And I am an old lady and just sleep much better now.
@Polly, “I needed a clean cut.”
Some need that clean cut for emotional reasons and others need it for practical reasons. Hence, each outlander has a unique solution to this problem imposed upon us. For some it makes sense to remain under the radar, for some relinquishing and self documenting and for some getting a CLN and filing is right plus location, location, location. Sympathy for outlanders in DE and CHF.
“And I am an old lady”
The fact that you are hanging around this motley crew means you are NOT an “old lady” rather you are indeed a young warrior. And I am glad you are standing on the front line of all this.
As a side note, I think the US politico elites would be shocked to see the demographics of the IBS/ADCS backers!! I think its far more women than men and far more seasoned than youthful and you know what; that is why we are going to win in the end. No offense to the young guys in our midst!
@Polly– I totally get it (sorry if I implied otherwise). In Canada, hiding and lying about birthplace works. Unfortunately I realize this isn’t the case in much of Europe.
@George
I agree with the various solutions for various situations.
A young warrior eh? LOL I dont know if I am standing in the front line, but what I do know for sure is that taxing people who don`t live in a country and don`t get the services is just morally wrong. Taxation without representation as well. Add to that the potentially ruinous penalties and it just gets more wrong. It is one thing to want to punish a New Yorker who is hiding money in Switzerland because basically it is a “stash”- meaning a fraction of what they own usually. But to apply the same penalties to somebody`s EVERYTHING – all they own because they live abroad – is just shameful.
I heard Trump wants to keep part of Obamacare and that was really thrilling to hear. Seems he also said he wants to clean up Washington DC- wonder how he wants to go about doing that. But that would be great too – and certainly wasn’t on Clinton`s agenda.
Here’s one president who you *hope* will break many of his campaign promises.
I have a good feeling with this one. I think he’ll end up “breaking” most of the extreme promises by appealing to reality and keeping those that are really needed. The signs are good in my eyes. Hope is something we need badly.
Even by Hilary’s estimates, less than 25% of all voters are “deplorable”. What about the rest of the US population that didn’t vote?

No word about RBT/CBT or Fatca
Polly: “No word about RBT/CBT or FATCA”? That’s precisely why we need to start getting in their face right now lest we be brushed aside again in the face of all the other things that need doing in Washington.
@Muzzled
How long has Orin Hatch been head of the group for tax reform under Obama? Two years? Three? Has ANYTHING been changed?

Will Trump Keep Republican Pledge To Repeal FATCA?
November 14, 2016 By Sophie Schillemore
https://twitter.com/search?f=tweets&vertical=default&q=%23FATCA&src=typd&lang=en
Thanks, JC. Keith has also taken the author to task. It was a good overview, but poor on details. I wonder where he got his details from if he thinks the Canadian lawsuit is associated with the Republican Party.
Remember that Reince Priebus was on a conference call with Republicans Overseas. I talked about this call in this stream. My memory is that he understood our issues very well but the later candidates like Ted Cruz did not. Reince is now going to be chief of staff. So I am getting more optimistic.
@Neill
From 2015:
RNC Statement on Republicans Overseas Action Lawsuit
WASHINGTON – Republican National Committee (RNC) Chairman Reince Priebus released the following statement in response to the filing of a Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) suit by Republicans Overseas Action (ROA):
“FATCA violates several of the constitutional rights and protections afforded to overseas Americans. Without these protections, Americans abroad are subject to arbitrary discrimination by foreign banks. By filing this suit, ROA is boldly speaking up for the financial rights of Americans around the world. If successful, their lawsuit will provide expats with both immediate injunctive relief as well as the security of knowing that the Treasury department is unable to enforce these crippling provisions.”
@Bubblebustin,
The conference call was for people who donated to the legal action you mention.

13 IRS Tax Rules Trump Tax Plan Won’t Change / Robert W. Wood
http://www.forbes.com/sites/robertwood/2016/11/14/13-irs-tax-rules-trump-tax-plan-wont-change/#981163f10dbe
And how does Robert Wood know this? He can be such a bloviator. Unfortunately, his high profile position enables him to put thoughts into others’ heads which may not have been there before. Creep.
@EllenD
He might mean a homelander with an account elsewhere. He doesn’t specify.
New article in the Yale Journal on Regulation blog pointing out: tax regulations are absurdly easy to repeal. No notice & comment period required, according to the IRS’ own position. Can be done on Day One of the Trump Administration if he is so inclined (giant if):

Dumping Obama’s faux foreign tax legislation should be high on Trump’s to-do list

Haydon Perryman says the $8.7 billion claimed to be reeled in by FATCA is witholding.
“FATCA withholding is close to zero because the IGAs all but negated withholding.”

@JC
So congress was counting on revenue generated by a FFI’s failure to enforce FATCA, according to Haydon Perryman?
