Media and Blog Articles
EmBee suggested that it would be good if there was a thread for new articles, so that people would be aware of where to comment. So, I created this permanent page. You could mention such articles in the comment stream for this page, or if I see one on another thread, I can copy the link to here. I’ll keep adding to the list, but not deleting, so we’ll end up having sort of a “bibliography” of FATCA/CBT articles. [Note: Some articles are not open for comments]
For more articles on FATCA, enter FATCA into Google then click on the link “more news for fatca” just below the most recent featured article.
Note also: JC suggests to see #FATCA on Twitter for latest breaking news. JC finds that is quite a good source and there even are some international articles that one may read using Google Translate.” Others may help certain tweets and articles remain in elevated position by retweeting them.
Be sure to read the comment stream for this thread — there are usually very recent articles mentioned there that aren’t on this list yet.

Bush: UK FACTA death of finance industry
http://www.caymanreporter.com/2016/01/19/bush-uk-facta-death-finance-industry/
UK FATCA? I thought it was a misprint …. but no! Or was this article a spoof? If it was satire it was certainly well disguised.
As most know, the UK was the first to sign a FATCA IGA with the US. At the time, the UK was also on a big track down the tax evaders drive (and still is). Shortly after signing with the US, it instituted a programme of its own similar to FATCA, which became known as “the Son of FATCA”, over 3 of its Crown Dependencies and 7 of its Overseas Territories. More can be found here:

@MuzzlednoMore
It’s real, but RBT not CBT. I see it as being like a small child telling of the dog after getting told of by his mother. The U.S. pulled rank on the U.K., so the U.K. pulled rank on its crown dependencies and overseas territories, many of which are on tax haven lists. In the late 1990s, there were big posters in bank windows and in business magazines in the U.K. advertising offshoring services.
@Publius
As I understand it, most of the Dependencies and O.T.s which signed on to Son of FATCA have since also signed onto the OECD CRS programme. General consensus is that Son of FATCA is basically dead now. I may be wrong. Again, it always was, and still is, all RBT as you say.
Victoria has an exciting announcement. Please take a peek …

@OAP
A bit of googling suggests that U.K. FATCA (otherwise called more sensibly CDOT regulations for Crown Dependendencies and Overseas Territories) came into effect earlier, while CRS starts in 2016, with transitional reporting in 2017 and full implementation in 2018.

That is great news. I am sure that she will be a brilliant student.
Is that the John Richardson interview? It won’t fetch the page for me.

The condors are very prolific lately. The passport revocation clause of the Highways Act gives them all a real boner.

@Barbara
Have u also seen that they don’t say US passort on some sites… they just say passport to make it seem they will cancel anyone’s passport… no matter what country the passport is from…. I hate these vultures…. make money off the mis-fortunes of others… using whatever scare tactics to make that cash roll in for them…
This does not sound correct?
individuals born in the U.S. but who are resident of Canada or another country who have not renounced their U.S. citizenship are still considered U.S. persons

@USFP: I have a different interpretation as to why some articles say only “you’ll lose your passport”. It’s simply more American exceptionalism. Just like “the only reason Americans go abroad is to avoid taxes.” Only US taxes exist, right? What, the UK charges taxes? F— ’em, but better pay yer fair share to Uncle Sam.
Same with “Pay up or you’ll lose your passport.” There is only one passport on this planet that matters, after all. What, you mean Canada issues passports too? Whaddaya supposed to do with ’em? Swat polar bears’ noses? Pay yer fair share, buddy!
Has anyone thought of contacting Michael Moore the documentary film maker? I am sure it would be the kind of thing that would interest him.
