Media and Blog Articles
EmBee suggested that it would be good if there was a thread for new articles, so that people would be aware of where to comment. So, I created this permanent page. You could mention such articles in the comment stream for this page, or if I see one on another thread, I can copy the link to here. I’ll keep adding to the list, but not deleting, so we’ll end up having sort of a “bibliography” too. [Note: Some articles are not open for comments]
For more articles on FATCA, enter FATCA into Google then click on the link “more news for fatca” just below the most recent featured article.
Note also: JC suggests to see #FATCA on Twitter for latest breaking news. JC finds that is quite a good source and there even are some international articles that one may read using Google Translate.” Others may help certain tweets and articles remain in elevated position by retweeting them.
Be sure to read the comment stream for this thread — there are usually very recent articles mentioned there that are not yet on this list.

@ Queenston
NO, they are not charging for relinquishments … yet. They’d probably like to though. I think that came from the discussion Brock had about there being fees for CLNs and the conclusion was the wording was a bit ambiguous but so far the fee is only for renunciation.
EmBee and
CalgaryPacifica.With friends like the person who posted inaccurate information on ehMac, our enemies don’t have to work very hard to discredit us. Thanks for checking this claim; we need to be sure about any information we use to make our case.
@ Queenston
It looks like a simple mistake and I see he’s already fixed it. There were some on Brock that thought the same for awhile until it all got thrashed out. I can’t remember which thread that was.
@ EmBee and Queenston,
Oh, that’s good. He’s basically posting really good stuff and making important points known to the readers of EhMac. It’s definitely hard (for all of us, I think) to keep all the details of this convoluted mess straight. Super that he revised that line, it reads great now.
FATCA Faces Lawsuit, Taxpayer Advocate’s Criticisms

@JC
I agree with that author who says FATCA should have been challenged long before it became so entrenched. When something becomes the new normal- it is hard to undo.
@Polly Ruled unconstitutional & Canadian IGA against Charter of Rights should fix it.
sadly information already sent to the IRS will be kept and used by the US, unless an injunction against sending data is granted, all data sent during the legal process will also be used by the US
Why some Canadians’ bank info is being sent to IRS

@Tom
Maybe BNN will allow comments while CTV didn’t.
The 14th was a big day From one of the Plaintiffs:

All – The following short video (Does it make financial sense to renounce your U.S. citizenship?) was sent to me by a US-renounced friend much concerned with some of what was said. While much of the information is accurate, the interviewee’s banter is so fast that some points can easily be taken out of context, leaving anyone who watches this (and the financial interviewer is fairly well known – Carrick) with big scary misconceptions.
http://www.theglobeandmail.com/report-on-business/video/video-carrick-talks-money-does-it-make-financial-sense-to-renounce-your-us-citizenship/article23612232/
I don’t see any immediate opportunity to comment but this is a Globe and Mail video and Carrick should be contacted/corrected.

I just made a comment to Polly about short sound bytes of information by mainstream media. This is a good example — not enough time or words to begin to cover the subject.

Despite Fatca clearance, MFs shun investment from US, Canada

@Calgary
Short sound bites? Where is that comment to me? Brock has become so big…..
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/calgary/family-in-calgary-may-be-forced-out-of-canada-because-of-baby-1.3162610
Too bad Deborah didn’t think of coming to Canada to have her baby instead of the US — the bonus of US citizenship for their child’s future may or may not be a blessing. Awareness of all this will be important for that family.
Good news though on this morning’s news that Dimeji and Deborah Tawose, both medical radiographers who came to Calgary though the federal skilled worker program, and their three children will all now receive temporary resident permits, a one-year reprieve to get things sorted out.
Good morning, Polly.
The comparison I was making was *alternatiave media* compared to *mainstream media*. The comment I made yesterday regarding the ThatChannel.com one-hour discussion with Peter, John and Tricia compared to The Globe and Mail too short clip and advice to those considering renouncing US citizenship in less than two minutes: http://isaacbrocksociety.ca/2015/07/18/the-shot-heard-round-the-world-live-from-thatchannel-com/comment-page-3/#comment-6314707. Most news for the public, and generally, not given much of a time slot in the regular media. Seems there are media guidelines that come from somewhere. In my old mind, journalism used to be much more informative and responsible.
Yes, it is difficult at Brock to go back to find a particular comment.
Good late afternoon Calgary! 🙂
Ah so.
In the meantime, I was wondering if we need somebody pro bono in public relations to work with us….
Cross-posting here as well…
