Media and Blog Articles
EmBee suggested that it would be good if there was a thread for new articles, so that people would be aware of where to comment. So, I created this permanent page. You could mention such articles in the comment stream for this page, or if I see one on another thread, I can copy the link to here. I’ll keep adding to the list, but not deleting, so we’ll end up having sort of a “bibliography” too. [Note: Some articles are not open for comments]
For more articles on FATCA, enter FATCA into Google then click on the link “more news for fatca” just below the most recent featured article.
Note also: JC suggests to see #FATCA on Twitter for latest breaking news. JC finds that is quite a good source and there even are some international articles that one may read using Google Translate.” Others may help certain tweets and articles remain in elevated position by retweeting them.
Be sure to read the comment stream for this thread — there are usually very recent articles mentioned there that are not yet on this list.

Calgary: Does Mr. Galati know about our own court challenge and the reasons for it? If he doesn’t, I’m sure he would be interested.
I was very interested to hear that Amnesty International has *already* come out with an opinion about Bill C-24. Hmmm. Gets me thinking!
Yes, Roco Galati does know of our litigation, MuzzledNoMore. And, yes, very interesting that Amnesty International has already weighed in, as they should, on C-24.

@Yang yang: Interesting article. But legally speaking that headline should say at least 5%. In addition to the 3% of Homelanders who are “accredited investors”, the restrictions on offering securities to US Persons don’t apply to the 2% or so of Americans resident outside of the US. The Regulation S definition of “US Person” only includes US residents, not non-resident citizens.
Which points to a very real problem: these restrictions are spreading to Americans outside of the US anyway. Homelanders can’t imagine a US citizen not living in the US and think their laws should apply to us the same as to US residents, wherever we go. Meanwhile, non-US accountants/VCs/brokers/etc. don’t know the difference between the IRS definition of “US Person” (US residents and non-resident citizens) and the SEC definition, and some take the risk-averse course of telling anyone with a US connection to go fly a kite because they don’t want to risk screwing up and facing absurd fines.
@Eric, “between the IRS definition of “US Person” (US residents and non-resident citizens) and the SEC definition, and some take the risk-averse course of telling anyone with a US connection to go fly a kite because they don’t want to risk screwing up and facing absurd fines.”
I relinquished and have documents as in letters to me personally from the USG that I relinquished and was not a US Citizen. I do not have a CLN.
I have unique skill sets that are of value.
I have turned down becoming minority partner of several startups in the EU because of place of birth.
The reason cited was fear of US regulations.
I then offerred to get a CLN but was simply advised that the accountants and lawyers advised they should simply walk away from bringing me on board.

FATCA And The New Era of Global Transparency
http://wealthmanagement.com/asset-protection/fatca-and-new-era-global-transparency
I like Rand Paul. He doesn’t seem to be a hypocrite. And what about him saying “we are chasing away american business.” Yup- the rules are chasing away american businesses and keeping the money abroad in addition. How dumb does a tax law have to be to make something like this happen?
@Polly
Rand Paul wants to “drive a stake through the heart of the IRS”, the bloodsucking vampire it is.
http://randpaul.com/f/tax-plan-2?sr=rhf062415gb
@Bubblebustin
I`m no mathematician or economist- but it seems to me he is saying that if everybody has to pay 14%, then enough will be made for the government, and all the gaming of the system with all the loopholes which keeps the wealthy from paying THEIR FAIR SHARE will be eliminated, and that will make all the difference.
Wouldn’t it be amazing if his math works?
@Polly
I’m not much of a mathematician or economist either, but I do have a healthy scepticism when it comes to those who do using their knowledge of both to play politics. The Tax Foundation see flaws in Rand Paul’s calculations:
http://taxfoundation.org/blog/no-senator-paul-s-plan-will-not-blow-15-trillion-hole-federal-budget?mc_cid=fded76ec7a&mc_eid=6f30773d2e
Hard to know what the truth is, isn’t it?
@Bubblebustin
IMHO- if you have one building harbouring 200000 nameless business entities and get those to pay their taxes- then maybe his plan would work. I keep saying it: tax those people hiding their money IN Delaware!!!!! But hell no- they have to go after some little guy expat and punish them with draconic penalties to fund their streets and railways ( which expats will probably never use either).
