Media and Blog Articles
EmBee suggested that it would be good if there was a thread for new articles, so that people would be aware of where to comment. So, I created this permanent page. You could mention such articles in the comment stream for this page, or if I see one on another thread, I can copy the link to here. I’ll keep adding to the list, but not deleting, so we’ll end up having sort of a “bibliography” too. [Note: Some articles are not open for comments]
For more articles on FATCA, enter FATCA into Google then click on the link “more news for fatca” just below the most recent featured article.
Note also: JC suggests to see #FATCA on Twitter for latest breaking news. JC finds that is quite a good source and there even are some international articles that one may read using Google Translate.” Others may help certain tweets and articles remain in elevated position by retweeting them.
Be sure to read the comment stream for this thread — there are usually very recent articles mentioned there that are not yet on this list.

make that 3 from IBS
Someone please tell me I am misunderstanding this:
Exactly on what grounds can a US collection agency cross the border and come up here after Canadians? It’s bad enough hearing the endless going on about the Reed Amendment, that not have a CLN more or less makes you a US citizen, that you most likely have not lost your US citizenship when you relinquished decades ago……..but this?
Honestly, I really have to question the amount of bad information out there on the internet………and it isn’t coming from Brock……
Berg is using the same old scare tactics. The message we need to convey has 2 essential parts. 1. The IRS has no way to know Canadians have or haven’t many accounts such as RRSPs and TFSAs and no way to assess penalties on such accounts and 2. Dog the Bounty Hunter will be going after low hanging fruit- many millions owed by tens of thousands of Americans living in the homeland.

“So, it’s not the IRS that may be coming after you, it’s ‘Dog the Tax Bounty Hunter.’”
Am I hearing this correctly? We are now being told that American collection agencies/bounty hunters will be able to cross the border to go after Canadians unfortunate enough to have US taint? And then what? Drag them down to a U.S. jail? Does Canada now lie in U.S. jurisdiction? I am familiar with the revolting idea that American police officers will operate here and that they want to apply U.S. law. But private debt collectors? And where will the warrants come from? Except for FATCA form 8938, it’s my understanding the IRS has to go through the Justice Department…something the minnows up here in Canada surely cannot be worth their time/effort
Now I’ve heard everything..
Frightening. Here we see a tax pro talking about what to do with a UK spouse after the death of an American husband:

6) Turn in her green card or just let it lapse.
Just amazing. One way if done right frees you from the IRS. The other nails you six ways from Sunday.
@Neill
Besides the green card… I found out if u don’t *log* out of the US tax system properly… u owe even if the visa expired… whenever…. never heard that before… I have been to many countries… some on visa… when that expired… they just waved bye-bye… off u went…

@US_Foreign_Person,
I actually feel it’s the height of arrogance that they expect tax compliance with no right to enter the country even. Way beyond CBT even.

8. More KYC hassles: All types of abbreviations such as Fatca (Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act) and CRS (Common Reporting Standard) mandated by foreign countries and those by local regulators such as KYC-II and UBO (Ultimate Beneficiary Owner) might hassle you if you have investments in capital markets. These are part of an ongoing global war against tax evasion and undisclosed money. But, if these result in a cleaner, more transparent environment, genuine investors wouldn’t mind.
