@ Badger,
Sure, I’ll put up a France page today or tomorrow.
Thanks pacifica! Just anticipating more news from France as per Victoria’s post.
Re: France.
This might be interesting reading for the French. I am not endorsing this politician, but happen to be happy that he has spoken up. To no effect, apparently.
Not directly a FATCA story, but, as an illustration of the absurdity of US citizenship and passport law:
This UK preemie born by accident while parents on a trip to the US, had to get a US passport prior to leaving the US on his way home to the UK. The article states that’ “..Dax had to get his own passport before leaving the U.S., and having his photo taken for that meant doctors had to briefly remove the tubes that help Dax breathe and feed….”
and,
“……. However, tiny Dax still needed to be well enough to make the journey and have his own passport before he could be given the all-clear to fly home on a medical jet.
Donations were raised to help pay the astronomical costs. I really hope that Dax and his family won’t be facing any ridiculous and draconian US tax laws on the donations, as he was born an accidental dual – US and UK. And of course, as we know, FINCEN states that even children must file their own FBARs, so now DAX and his UK family have that, FBAR, and FATCA to face from across the ocean – all because he was born on US soil – even though he left as soon as was medically possible.
Presumably, Dax had to get a US passport before he could travel home to the UK because US citizens are to enter and depart the US only on a US passport.
That the US laws would mandate that a preemie born to non-US parents who were merely tourists had to leave the US only on a US passport – and if in order to do so, the preemie had to have his feeding and breathing tube removed for the passport photo is the height of absurdity.
And of course, now DAX will face all the burdens of US CBT and extraterritorial double taxation on his education savings in the UK, and perhaps be prevented from holding a birthday savings account in the UK due to FATCA.
Ukraine’s new Finance Minister is a US born American citizen and former banker. Who presumably is /was FBAR and FATCA and US tax compliant for the 23 years that Ukraine was her home. And who now as Finance Minister will assist in imposing/enforcing the FATCA data coercion of her fellow Ukrainians if they like her have US person designation.
“………..49-year-old former banker, who only got her Ukrainian citizenship the day she was appointed minister in December but has lived in the country for over two decades..”……..
“………Jaresko’s moved in the mid-1990s to Kiev as head of the economic section at the U.S. embassy. She then ran the Western NIS Enterprise Fund (WNISEF), which invests USAID funds into small and medium-sized businesses in Ukraine and Moldova.
She and her then-husband later founded Horizon Capital, an investment firm that now manages WNISEF. Jaresko says she no longer has any ownership or control at Horizon Capital…..”…..
“…Ukrainian law obliges Jaresko to renounce her American passport within two years, although she declined to say whether she had yet done so.”
This may be of use to those in the EU looking to challenge FATCA; see sections on data privacy, constitutionality, proportionality, data security, etc.
The Government has rejected suggestions to exempt Supplementary Retirement Scheme (SRS) accounts and all investments made using SRS funds from Fatca reporting obligations.
It noted that these accounts do not meet the US criteria for exemption.
Time to start an India page before the sh*+ storm kicks in?

@ Orwell,
Sure. I’ll add India and other countries in the next few days.
For articles on other websites, go to the Media and Blog Articles thread/list.
Belgium?
I have been kicked out of Deutsche Bank, because of my birthplace, with no possible appeal.
My other banks have not asked me any questions yet.
@ Fred,
We don’t have any posts about FATCA in Belgium. When we do, we’ll list it/them here.
Could we have one for France?

It was not a simple process. Just getting a photograph for his American passport meant his parents had to watch doctors briefly remove the tubes used to help Dax to breathe and feed. ….”……

Jaresko is part of the US puppet government set up in the Ukraine after the US engineered coup d’état. I’m sure she will get special IRS treatment for her service rendered. Maybe Victoria Nuland will even bake her some cookies.

Can’t read the whole article, but the headline is intriguing.

This has a summary of the main points of those 567 suggestions………brief but readable.

Unsurprisingly useless.
Kind admins, could we have a place to put items re FATCA/CBT in Japan?

@ Badger,
Good idea. I’ll put up a Japan page this evening.
Thanks Pacifica for all the hours and hours you put in to help us here.
Always much appreciated.
Pacific, I didn’t see this reply to badger. I’ve started a FATCA and Japan page: http://isaacbrocksociety.ca/2015/03/25/fatca-and-japan/. (I’m a day late and a dollar short to many things today.)
