International Tax Evasion Crackdown: Slow, Tricky, And Only First Step in FATCA Legal Reform
Efforts led by the U.S. Treasury to crack down on U.S. tax evaders are slow, complicated and only the initial steps in a years-long strategy to recapture $100 billion in lost offshore tax revenue, according to remarks at a recent New York tax conference.
Attempts to implement the 2010 Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) have repeatedly stalled, partly because the sweeping law raises privacy and diplomatic concerns.

Canadian FATCA Fact Sheet
Based on comments received from people who were part of the recent Ottawa protest, as well as passersby, I revised the generic FATCA handout to be more Canadian specific, and hopefully a bit more concise and visually appealing. Thank you Pacifica777 for helping with the editing!
If anyone has any suggestions for further improvements please let me know. One suggestion, I received, but did not act upon, was to have a 2-sided hand-out with only the highlights on one side, and the details on the other. If anyone wants to take a stab at formulating the highlights for the opposite side, please feel free. My goal, was to at least have a one-sided hand-out ready for the Calgary protest.

Raise a Little Hell!
Listening to this song recently, while driving, and enjoying the most amazing fall weather in Ottawa that we’ve been having for several weeks, (was sunny and 22 Celsius today), made me think of (what else?) – the FATCA battle we’ve been fighting everywhere, but particularly here in Canada.
‘Raise a little hell’, is a song by Canadian rock band Trooper. The song is the 10th and final track on the band’s 1978 album ‘Thick as Thieves’. It is the band’s only top 100 US hit.
Maybe we can ‘raise a little hell’ of our own here in Canada, and make FATCA a US failure!
