The Charter of Rights protects ALL Canadians even when it is uncomfortable. Even when some Canadians are more equal? https://t.co/ruiSIH237h

Canada in 2017:
Khadr apology and settlement about violation of Charter rights, Trudeau says https://t.co/VNXXrr3wfw – Canadian is a Canadian is a Canadian
— U.S. Citizen Abroad (@USCitizenAbroad) July 10, 2017
The article referenced in the above tweet includes:
On Friday, the government confirmed a payment had been made to Khadr to settle a longstanding lawsuit. Khadr’s suit claimed Canada had violated his rights and was complicit with the United States when he was detained at the U.S. base in Cuba, denied access to a lawyer and tortured.
The Supreme Court of Canada in 2010 ruled Khadr’s rights had been violated.
The apology sparked fresh public debate about Khadr, but Trudeau says the settlement is not about the details of Khadr’s case but the fact his rights were violated.
Trudeau says the Charter of Rights and Freedoms protects all Canadians, “even when it is uncomfortable.”
“When the government violates any Canadian’s Charter rights, we all end up paying for it,” he said.
Trudeau says the Charter of Rights and Freedoms protects all Canadians, “even when it is uncomfortable”
Pierre Trudeau would have believed that the Charter of Rights of protects all Canadians. Justin Trudeau doesn’t believe that. In theory constitutional (including Charter rights) are great things. In practice “rights” often make people feel uncomfortable.
The examples of Canadians with a “U.S. taint” and Mr. Khadr make people uncomfortable. That is perhaps why both really are “Charter of Rights” cases!
(Of course the Supreme Court of Canada has not (unlike in the case of Mr. Khadr) YET ruled that the rights of Canadians with a “U.S. taint” have been violated. Perhaps, that is the real difference.)
In conclusion …
As Isaac Brock Commenter "Embee" comments, when it comes to the #FATCA and the Canadian Charter of Rights https://t.co/R2oYNxsUws pic.twitter.com/TXIyg56RJm

Pardon my cynicism but the payment of millions of taxpayer’s dollars doesn’t convince me he really means it.
I reiterate my comments on the Media thread:
Perhaps Mr. Arvay might find a way of incorporating the quote into his opening arguments. We haven’t heard one this good in a long time!
And perhaps the Tweeters would like to have a go at Trudeau! Even though it’s made the US mad (particularly the family of the soldier who was killed) Canada will uphold the Charter by compensating a former, underage (alleged) terrorist while it refuses to uphold it in the case of citizens who have done no wrong at all except having “US Personhood”.
Canadian government concerned about violations of Charter rights? Since when?
Thank you for that reset. I can’t explain, at this time, why that video brings tears to my eyes but it also fills me with an enormous amount of pride to watch, once more, my fellow Canadians presenting such strong, logical arguments against the passage of Part 5, Bill C-31 (2014) without any amendments to uphold the Canadian Charter and to protect us from “foreign bully demands”. I know I despair sometimes that “Logic has left the building” but it doesn’t have to be a permanent departure, not if we create the conditions to entice its return. That’s what ADCS is doing and that’s what Joseph Arvay and his legal team have been entrusted to do on our behalf. Bless our anti-FATCA fighters, each and every one, from whatever country they currently call home.
Wouldn’t it be a good idea, just at this very moment, to raise some money and do an ad campaign, both in the traditional mainstream press, on radio, as well as online, challenging the Government on Charter Rights as concerns FATCA? A well conceived ‘infomercial’ telling the public that their Government does not always treat every Canadian as equal and then give an actual real life short FATCA horror story that changes with each advert. It will certainly raise awareness and get needed mainstream attention. Talking amongst ourselves will never achieve that!
We are seeing history in the making. The death of Canada is just starting. By paying millions to a terrorist and then slapping every military service man and woman in the face is incredible. My blood boils over this. Trudeau just payed someone for throwing grenades at my brother whop is a captain in the Canadian Air Force. Interesting how this pile of shit “claims” that this terrorist had “charter rights” isn’t it. Where the hell are your charter rights?? Trudeau is guilty of high treason and should be executed for it. Canada is a LAUGHING STOCK and into the future, we will pay for this liar!! Please please, CANADIANS STOP BEING SHEEP AND GET THE HELL UP AND DO SOMETHING!!!
A great comment on CBC piece, this subject:
…and wouldn’t change his tune / flip flop after winning the election.
What follows is an interesting article which argues that the Khadr settlement was reasonable.
https://www.thestar.com/news/canada/2017/07/10/opposition-to-omar-khadrs-settlement-is-puzzling-and-cynical-paradkar.html
This shows we’ve been doing this FATCA fight all wrong. Time to pray to Allah and treat women like dogs. Then people will listen to us.
This will likely do more damage to Canada/US relations than protecting the right people with the charter. We were all deprived of our charter rights hence why we are trying to get them in court. With a Canadian judge who is clearly biased, my hopes for getting out charter rights are very low. There is no good news here, only bad news when we see the damage that will be done to Canada in the coming weeks trading with the USA. There would have been less damage if our rights were enforced and we told fatca to stay out of Canada. Trudeau slapped us in the face and lied, however, he will likely see real damage on the Khadr issue. Watch and see…..

I think Justin just sunk his political career, unless, people are dumb enough to be so willing to support this assclown come election day, despite cutting a quick cheque for a terrorist.
I’m beyond disgusted.
I’m looking at this in utter disbelief. Trudeau and Harper are both traitors to Canada as I have said all along. Selling CDN sovereignty to the US with the signing of the IGA then the slap in the face by Trudeau by supporting Khadr over 1M+ law-abiding CDNs and their families. It’s disgusting.
But I’m also a Canadian patriot. And the one thing that will cause me to take up arms is an invasion by the US of Canadian soil. I hate to be blunt, but that is one less soldier who will potentially occupy Canadian soil. I will defend my country against foreign incursion…no matter WHO it is. FATCA has angered me beyond belief and I am just waiting for American exceptionalism to justify an invasion of our sovereign soil. IF you find theses words offensive:
Remember this.
When the United States inflicted FATCA on the rest of the world and on Canada, the United States CEASED to be our “brothers and sisters” They became the ENEMY. ANYONE WHO THINKS DIFFERENTLY NEEDS TO RETHINK THEIR CITIZENSHIP! When you took the oath to support Canada, your LOYALTY should be to Canada and it should be UNWAVERING. if you feel differently, then cede your Canadian citizenship at the local citizenship office.
One more thing: When I say that we defend Canada, I don’t mean the government of Canada. We elect fools just as much as the idiots to the south do. What we defend is our homes, our families, our sovereign soil, our right to self-determination and our sovereignty – The government can sell their sovereignty, but the citizens will not cede theirs – that is what makes up Canada. And if you don’t believe in that part of Canada, then GTFO.
I will fight against FATCA and I will fight to my last breath against the US and their encroaching extra-territorial avarice whether it takes the form of bureaucratic laws or military might. If it comes to the latter, I’ll pick up a rifle.
I do have to say though that the former American soldier who was blinded by Khadr calling Justin Trudeau a “traitor” has a certain element of it’s none of his business. This Utah based soldier Speer guy seems to be another pro FATCA-esque busy body nosing his way into other people’s business.
@ Tim
The injured US soldier’s name is Morris. I think the term traitor gets tossed out much more frequently than it should be. I know one thing, if Omar Khadr’s Canadian funded settlement ends up in American hands, to be spent on American soil, I’ll consider THAT to be a travisty just like Canadian earned dollars ending up in the US Treasury by way of US extraterritorial taxation.
http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/khadr-compensation-speer-morris-1.4190468
@EmBee
My impression is that it will be Very difficult for Morris to collect any money in Canadian court. We shall see though over the coming months. In a weird way Morris is hurting the Canadian Conservative Party. If Morris goes to the Ontario Supreme Court to try to collect on Khadr and losses it will like look Khadr is in the right and Morris is in the wrong or something like that.
@ Tim
Hope you are right. I don’t think Omar Khadr will dare to visit the USA though with that Utah court default judgment ruling in favour of Speer and Morris … especially since he is now no longer penniless.
Right now, I trust NEITHER country. Not at all. The only thing I feel loyal to at this point, is to my family. This flag waving shit? I’m so tired of it! It has really made me that cynical, to where weasel words such as loyalty, and patriotism, makes me want to throw up violently.
The ONLY thing that is for certain, in this sad Khadr affair, is that the taxpayers have been victimized. Everyone else, be it Khadr, the US government, and the Canadian government, were ALL bad actors here.
Khadr is a terrorist. I don’t care what anyone says. He’s a terrorist that profited quite handsomely, because Canada has this perennial habit of NOT standing up for its own, regardless of who or what they are. Those that have been FATCA’d here, and the government won’t do anything but aid and abet the bullshit, KNOW this is true. Ironically, had those asshole Americans took the time to pop another asshole in Khadr’s forehead, instead of rescuing this piece of shit, and throwing him in Gitmo to perform their war crimes on him, then ALL of us would’ve been spared this sad affair. But no! America got to be the asshole bully that we know they are, while Canada is still looking for its spine to this day, while musing that “it’s strength is its diversity”, while writing out a cheque to a terrorist. Bullshit!
On behalf of the taxpayers here, we want our damn money back! Stand for us, for once!!
@mjh49783
You are welcome to help Morris’ legal team in Toronto with their legal costs. They are going to need it for sure because if they lose they will be forced in all likelihood to pay Khadr’s legal costs.
This is probably the most depressing threads I’ve read on Brock.
Depressing for how little or much it has to do with our issues at hand.
There are plenty of hanging judges around. Don’t stick your neck out.
@Tim, No, I will not donate to the coffers of any American “homelander”. I’m sorry that he went through what he did but if the US had stayed out of Afghanistan and Iraq/Kuwait…and let the Muslims fight it out for themselves, then he would have been spared his eyesight. I have no love for the United States and if they set ONE FOOT over the border bearing an idea that they will take over MY country, they will be in my sights. The United States had NO constitutional right to be in Iraq and Afghanistan, they unilaterally along with a group of bad actors invaded Afghanistan and Kuwait under the ruse of freeing the country. .
My family and those who fight this fight are all I care about. It doesn’t matter that you came from the United States…but that you stand for your family and your SOIL. I don’t give a shit about the government. They’re an elected bunch of liars and hypocrites who will do anything including prostituting themselves for profit. And frankly, I have said, as a Canadian (born in Canada) that this group of motley traitors should be HUNG. As far as I see it, I regard Canada as two separate identities; the land and the government. I will fight and die for my LAND. I will not do the same for my government.
