WITNESS SEARCH UPDATE FOR CANADIAN FATCA IGA LAWSUIT:
WE STILL SEEK MORE CANADIAN WITNESSES:
Have you experienced marital stress or breakup, or medical or psychiatric illness because Canada turned you and your family over to a foreign country — or because you were afraid and entered into IRS compliance and suffered harm, or because you are in “hiding” and can’t afford to be IRS compliant or to renounce? Be a witness.
No single witness will be “perfect” from a litigation point of view. We will be seeking more witnesses (almost) right up to the time of submission of court documents. Your specific situation, that we cannot predict, might have unique characteristics that would be helpful in the lawsuit.
If you cannot be a witness, please tell a friend who you think might be interested.
— If you are interested in becoming a witness You will describe your harm in a written affidavit which will be made public and you can contact me at stephen.kish.chair@adcs-adsc.ca See our website at www.adcs-adsc-ca
FOR THOSE CANADIANS WHO ALREADY VOLUNTEERED: Unless you have already been informed by me or by our legal team that you will not be a witness, there is still the possibility — or (for some) likelihood — that you will be asked to be a witness. I’m sorry but I cannot estimate the time it will take for our legal team to get back to you with their decision. This is because they need to “mesh” the characteristics of all of the necessary witnesses and testimonies with the actual detailed submission that contains the entirety of their evidence, which are all still evolving. Please be patient in our getting back to you with a decision. Thank you for your help.
@EmBee Yes, I had the same thought about some stIll shots with a voice over. I have not yet spoken with Deckard about that approach, but I plan to send him some stuff tomorrow.
Does anyone know how I can find video of Question Period in the House of Commons for April 8, June 4 and June 14, 2014?
Thanks everyone. I’m FATCAed out for tonight. Tomorrow is another day. Nighty Night everyone.
Sleep well. Don’t let the FATCA Monsters give you nightmares.
Lynne,
I sent you a message regarding ParVu site and looking for the remaining video you want tomorrow. I too am FATCA’d out tonight. Just let me know if someone else does it as I don’t want to duplicate effort in trying to find. Thanks. Sweet dreams.
In the meantime,

June 14, 2014 was a Saturday – no sitting of the House of Commons.
I sent via separate email other you were searching for — and can work on these tomorrow from what you’ve given me, Lynne.
Thanks,
Carol
You beat me to it calgary411. I eventually found my way to the ParlVu calendar too.
I don’t know how to easily find the desired Question Period portions … perhaps search the transcripts for the time? Here’s the links for the transcripts:
April 8, 2014 (19 pages)
http://www.parl.gc.ca/parliamentarians/en/publicationsearch?parlses=from2014-04-08to2014-04-08
June 4, 2014 (21 pages)
http://www.parl.gc.ca/parliamentarians/en/publicationsearch?parlses=from2014-06-04to2014-06-04
Thought I look through those transcripts a little. Found this from Elizabeth May — 2014-04-08 11:19 (page 4). And there’s much more …
Thanks, EmBee, for providing those links to the transcripts for April 8 and June 4, 2014, the places I will go next to try to determine about where in the many hours of video the pertinent might be. I’ll be working on that a little later this morning.
Need witnesses? I have the registered voter lists for eight U.S.A. States and I am extracting the ones with mailing addresses where the country name is Canada. These registered voters might not qualify but many of them can certainly point to candidate affiants.
Some States include telephone numbers on the registered voter lists. Some States include email addresses. These if the voter chose to disclose them where the form says “optional”.
Unfortunately, most ways of using that information and email addresses would likely contravene Canada’s anti-spam law, Tom.
@ calgary411
Just curious. We know the 3rd date is not June 14th (a Saturday) so is it June 13th? Is Blaze looking for fiblib FATCA comments in the House of Commons prior to passage of Bill C-31?
@Calgary411: Get legal advice about that anti-spam law. Is it UCE, i.e. unsolicited commercial email? I know little about Canadian laws. Even so, telephone numbers and Canadian addresses can be useful.
I think the date should have been June 14 and I think she was looking for Scott Brison which I did find there in addition to the other that she wanted for that date.
I’ve just had a long chat with my US sister and it’s now time for a good dog walk — so I haven’t started looking into the other two, but I will as soon as I return.
Tom, thanks for trying to help.
ADCS looked into the spam laws in Canada some time ago and decided not to send out multiple unsolicited mailings to individuals who had not provided consent. When I ask for witnesses I ask on behalf of ADCS, a non-profit corporation.
The argument was also made to me that: “how can ADCS complain about FATCA violating privacy of Canadians if ADCS sends out unsolicited emails to people and “violates” their privacy?”
@Stephen Kish:
The telephone numbers can still be useful and the mailing addresses can be sorted.
@EmBee @Calgary411 It was actually June 11 I was looking for–a typo on my part. Fortunately, Calgary read my mind and sent me the right information for that date.
I have sent Deckard some clips from that and others from Trudeau and McCallum before and after the election.
I am still working on a couple of others. Then Deckard willl need to clip them and he and I will need to format them and put them together into some kind of format for our protest video.
Ginny, does Barclay want to make a public statement in the video? Do you have a videographer who could help with that? You and Gwen, of course, are also invited to make statements.
This video is becoming bigger than I anticipated, but it’s another Brock Sandbox Alliance collaboration. If only our elected officials would work together.
Thanks for your help everyone.
I probably won’t post or publicly share the Protest Video until after the World Premiere in London Ontario.
FYI Stephen. I commented on the CBC article a few days ago asking for witnesses. It was in moderation for a long time so may not have been seen by very many. Will keep it in mind for future.
Cheryl, thank you very much for mentioning the witness request on the CBC article! [By the way, one potential witness will be contacting me tonight.]
I am going to keep asking readers to post these requests. Also, GwEvil is teaching me how to set up and use Facebook (which I am very afraid of) so that I can post these requests myself.
I’m not sure if this would make any difference.
It’s often forgotten that if you are a Canadian citizen in Canada and a US citizen at the same time, the US (it’s under International Law I believe) will not render assistance to a dual Canadian/US citizen in Canada.
So once again the US is trying to tax someone in Canada, and cannot provide any assistance in Canada.
If the US claims that it’s there to protect it’s citizens, the whole argument is a nonsense in this case.
The times and date are listed next to each comment in this results list – transcripts from openparliament.ca , perhaps that might help narrow what portion of the video for each date is relevant?
https://openparliament.ca/search/?q=Party:+%22Liberal%22+Date:+%222011-08+to+2016-03%22+fatca+Type:+%22debate%22&sort=date+desc
I narrowed by debate vs. committee, but you could change that.
@ badger
That’s certainly a faster route than I took. Nice work!
@Cheryl, re a Con that came into US tax compliance (the hard way?) was it the Premier of New Brunswick David Alward? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Alward

There was a story in the article published on a Saturday, in October 2011? in the online Telegraph-Journal that the quotes in the Hodgen post refers to, but it is no longer available on the web. It may be available and archived in some databases of Canadian newspapers, or perhaps someone writing to the paper could obtain a copy.
Alward later renounced – which appeared in a CBC story about him being named to the post of Canadian Consul General in Boston

@Embee, only caveat is that sometimes they didn’t use the term FATCA, (or said or spelled it wrong), or just talked about US extraterritorial taxation. So I found I had to play around with the search terms a bit.

@Cheryl,
Here’s the complete citation info for the article on Alward, courtesy of usxcanada’s site ;

As a dual citizen, New Brunswick Premier David Alward “is complying with the U.S. demand for tax returns going back years and detailed disclosures.”

@badger. Maybe. I’ve been looking for it but thought it was after that and I thought it was a con MP but I’m not sure. Sorry.
A few days ago some people had the idea of taking out a half-page newspaper advertisement.
If the advertisement would start with a title in big letters “Seeking witnesses”, explain FATCA in one sentence, and ask that people hoping to obtain legal protection contact ADCS, maybe that would bring a handful of witnesses. Maybe a quarter-page ad would do.
There would still be room for a separate paragraph or two below that, to explain more about FATCA that hardly anyone would bother reading.
@Badger, Remember David Alward is the former NB premier (Conservative); he ran for re-election but lost to Brian Gallant (Liberal).
