I just left a tip.
I would love to leave one and I hope others do, but could use some help composing the wording. Is there a copyable short version I could send?
This is what I just sent to the Broadcast news:
I have been appalled by the lack of coverage of FATCA and the Canadian IGA and how this has made about 1 million Canadians into 2nd class citizens. With Mr. Trudeau repeatedly claiming “A Canadian is a Canadian” who in the realm of investigative journalism is questioning him (or the other 2 parties) about the 2014 Conservative-approved loss of rights (and discrimination based on nationality and/or parentage) for these individuals (a large number of which thought they gave up their citizenship when they became Canadian years and years ago and now have to pay $2350 to have this documented and “approved” so the banks won’t send their (and their spouses’ and business partner’s) financial details to the IRS.
Where has the “NEWS” been on this – – TOTALLY SILENT, yet there is continuous report of the niquab and the shootings in Oregon and stupid remarks by federal candidates. Do 1 million Canadians (some of whom were brought back to Canada the day they were born) that the US deems to be taxable-persons NOT MATTER TO YOU AT ALL???
Thanks, Joe Smith and those who have so far sent messages. I will also.
This is the tip I sent.
Citizenship has become an important issue in this campaign which is important but the issue of second class citizenship as a result of the Harper Government signing the FATCA IGA against Canadian citizens with various levels of US taint has never received full coverage by the Canadian press. The Canadian government demonized Eritrea for taxing their citizens residing in Canada 2% but have bowed down to the US God who wants to tax and penalize Canadian citizens residing in Canada far more than this 2%. I understand the issue is complicated but that is the net result. I am now a second class citizen and am not being protected by the Harper government.
Thanks to all who have sent messages.
@All
The link below suggests that the US sent information about US accounts to other countries. Is this true? I thought there was no reciprocity?
@AU – I dont know. However I suspect that whatever was exchanged was de minimis versus what the US expects to receive from others. I am willing to bet that there has been no exchange of Bank account locations nor balances during the year for example. We will find out I am sure in the fullness of time.
Awesome messages to broadcast news!!
With regard to reciprocity, even if the US appears to be reciprocating with regard to the US-held accounts of foreigners it can *never* be truly reciprocal because of the vast difference between the information required by the US government and that required by all others. The US government is the only government (OK, there’s Eritrea, too!) that requires information about its so-called *citizens*. That’s what nobody but us seems to understand. CBT must end before true reciprocity can exist.
The US may send info on non-resident aliens. They will never share information on US Citizens/residents with foreign jurisdictions, even if the individual has a connection to that foreign country.
@Joe Smith, thanks for the tip. I have sent them one. I hope our tips are just the “tip of the iceberg.” π
