We have a Vimeo site, Citizenship Taxation, to post this portion of the submission. I am not sure if it is necessary to be a member of Vimeo to view them; I do know I signed up for free access.
Having sat through the entire filming portion of each of these, I am impressed at how well each excerpt captures the essence of each individual’s point of view/situation. On the day these were filmed, it was very powerful to hear each of these people relate their stories; one person’s was done spontaneously, without any prior preparation. Generally, none used scripts and I was surprised at how incredibly capable they were, at describing their dilemmas in a focused way. Some were as short as 10 minutes and the longest was 30 minutes. Each has been edited to approximately 5 minutes each.
The point of our submission, is to demonstrate the harm the US policy of citizenship-based taxation brings in its various (and bizarre) applications to individual situations. There are of course, certain elements common to all. However, listening to “Linda” for example, describe what led her family to own Mutual Funds in the first place, is to understand how she and her husband, knowing of his fatal condition, planned and executed a way to provide for their three children after his death. It must have been excruciatingly painful to live through those years knowing that this young family would soon face life without their father, husband, & best friend. Yet, this was how this family survived. How perverse is it then, for her to face not only the fact the US still considers her a “US Person,” but that she is a criminal, in spite of having left the US over four decades ago? Should she be willing to commit financial suicide due to a circumstance outside her control, that of being born in the US? What person could be expected to do such a thing? And for WHAT? Or Barbara, who received totally erroneous advice having already relinquished US citizenship decades ago, being put into OVDI? (Every time I hear of someone being advised to become compliant when they are NOT a US Person makes me want to scream for the blood of those who continue to do this.) And so on……
We will be providing the rest of the submission (as well as the full transcripts of the interviews) over the course of the next couple of weeks. The comments/letters document to which many of you contributed, is over 200 pages. We appreciate your patience as this has proved to be a very large project.
For now, please watch and do share these widely with family and friends, on Facebook, Twitter, etc. We especially need Homelanders to see these and understand that we are not the FATCATs.
I’m through only a few of the videos – there’s something for everyone there. Nice work, and a huge thank-you for everyone involved!
If the homelanders don’t respond to these, then nothing will ever get through to them…

I’m sorry if someone thinks progressives are marxists. I disagree with you entirely but, that’s okay. I’m what you’d consider a prog. Dismiss accordingly as you will.
I do hope the videos have an impact. A big impact. I agree with Gwen if this doesn’t bring change then I’m hard pressed to know what will. I hope more of this type of thing can be done. They need to see us as real human beings trying to put food on our tables and live our lives the exact same as they are doing. Not some “fatcat” hiding out on a pirate ship in the Caymens.
These videos are very good, very honest and to the point. they are also very varied in the type of people that give testimonials. Apart from providing these to the Senate Finance Committee, I think that these testimonials should be sent to all of the main news networks. If anything, they should provoke some interest to investigate and pursue this story of ‘human rights abuse’ further. That the main U.S. TV news networks haven’t even covered this story is as incredible as the very abuse itself. How can something of this magnitude, of such a clear violation of human rights, of fairness and justice be simply ignored by the mainstream “news” media?
Atticus says it better than I did when I articulated why Progressives want your money. Every administration in my lifetime and the first president I remember was FDR, was collective in nature. He was friends with Stalin, who along with Lenin was the first to institute a Marxist government. Up until then we had been a Capitalist Country without an Income Tax. It was totally, a Marxist Idea to change the U.S.Constitution to allow an Income tax, so when I say the income Tax is The marxist Income Tax, I am saying those who doggedly stick to an Income Tax, are Marxist’s. If you take Marxism to it’s logical conclusion, It always fails.
The only thing that creates wealth is work. Everything else is redistribution.
I am an advocate of the FairTax HR25 and S122. It is the only way that government will be put out of the Marxist policy ofusing the Marxist Income tax as an instrument of Social Engineering, Current government officials all over wstern Europe The U. S. and Canada love the policy of taxation to buy the votes from the public, using their own money.
Wilton, I think it’s a good idea to talk about the videos. We all come from different perspectives here. I could list and explain to you why I dislike a lot of republican policies at times but, I don’t do that here because to do so might insult others who are fighting FATCA with me which is a distraction. I could for instance though I don’t believe it say they are all regressive or selfish. I don’t believe that’s true but,it’s an example of a negative label, I don’t wish to attribute to others who do not believe as I do.
I think and this is just my opinion that those discussions belong elsewhere really. I am not a Marxist and neither are many of the other people I know who are progs. I believe in helping those who need help. I don’t think that equates to full Marxism and I’ll just leave it there.
I also don’t want my participation in these videos to be equated with some of the statements you are making so I am answering to you. Other wise I’d just ignore it as I will do hence forth.
The videos took a lot of work on the part of the organizers here. I am simply amazed at what was accomplished and I certainly hope for more of the same in the future months. Kudos once again to everyone who made this happen. I was so pleased to be involved for a small part and to meet some of you there who I had not met yet!! Mike and others who traveled to attend, the film crew too did a great job. I still think back to the expat forum days and marvel at what has spun off from that. Simply amazing people here all around.
The Goal of all Marxist’s is to strip the wealth from the rich and the middle class. It is the carrying out of the Manifesto written by Marx and his boyfriend Engels. They were born middle class but because of their behavior disowned by their parents. They set out to destroy their parents by destroying the whole class, they saw as their enemy.
The continuation of civilization in the West is dependent on Capitalism’s success. The FairTax takes social engineering out of taxation. A National sales tax cannot destroy a whole class of people.
Urge all U.S. legislators to vote for HR25 and S122, and therby institute the FairTax.
Atticus, I agree with you. Again, we have gotten way off track in sticking to the discussion on this post of the powerful videos that have been produced and the positive ways we can use them. (And, Atticus, I want to thank you for yours. It’s as if I’ve finally met you in person.)
Wilton, please try to limit your comments to the subject at hand. We are not discussing Fair Tax here, but the videos I hope everyone here has had a chance to watch / listen to.
Thanks once again to all involved with getting these published — for all the work that has gone into this part of the Senate Finance Committee submission as the text portion we will eventually be able to review. Incredible work from many committed persons!
I think the republicans are just as guilty of Marxist ideas as the democrats. if they wern’t they’d have repealed all the marxist programs when they had the chance. The big difference in the two parties are when they are out of office the difer with the other, but as soon as they get into office they continue the Marxist policies enacted by the other party.
I WAS RAISED BY DEDICATED MARXIST’S SO I KNOW THEM FROM CHILDHOOD AND WHEN I WAS ABLE I BROKE FREE FROM THE CHAINS OF DEPENDENCY AND HAVE WORKED TO FREE OTHERS.
Sorry, i rambled but i am old and sometimes take the priveledge of age.
The fact that one of the Videos was profiled by the Financial Times this week says a lot about the impact they are having.
IBS Admins may wish to promote the article. Despite being behind a paywall, it carries significant weight amongst policy makers & shapers.
For right now, *google* “US expatriates’ taxing questions”; click on FT link to the article; answer a question to read the article.
The videos show honest, good people trying to live their lives honestly. The government is the one being dishonest. We are standing together and it is clearly being seen. As stated in the video, it is inhumane to tax someone who does not reside in the country wanting tax. To what lengths will taxation go? Thank you to everyone who worked so very hard to do the videos and everyone who had the courage to appear in them. As a quote from an American hero John Walsh ” YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE”
Yes, a small vocal minority can achieve a feat once thought impossible. The Citizenship based taxation could be and will be stopped. Not by those who don’t know what will stop it and who continue to believe that somehow the D.C. Pukes will suddenly get religion and stop being Marxists.
I was admonished today by a Broc member when I advocated the FairTax instead of the Marxist Income Tax. Both Political parties here in the U.S. have some Marxist tendancies. I mentioned the democrats or Progressives because they have more Marxists than the republicans….. Marx wrote about wanting an income tax in his Manifesto in the second chapter, if you want to look. He wanted to destroy the rich and the middle class. Look around you. The middle class has shrunk and the rich have run away leaving only the working and non working poor. Who will support them then?
If passed, The FairTax would stop any tax obligation ex pats would have under the current doctorine. i try to tell you what to support to end the things you hate and lecture me on Keeping to the subject.
I never was off subject—You just don’t recognize it when someone knows the cause and the cure for your disease (of citizenship taxation)…..The cure but not the only cure.
