UPDATE January 24, 2015: THIRD OF FIVE LEGAL BILLS PAID
[We now have a NEW POST taking us up to May 1, 2015. This post will be retired from service.]
On August 11, 2014, Constitutional Litigator Joseph Arvay filed a FATCA IGA lawsuit in Canada Federal Court on behalf of Plaintiffs Ginny and Gwen, the Alliance for the Defence of Canadian Sovereignty (en français), and all peoples worldwide. Read Alliance’s Claims and comment on our Alliance blog.
Merci !
L’équipe de l’ADSC

Dear Friends and Supporters,
Together we have reached our goal of paying off the third of five retainer fees for our Canadian FATCA IGA lawsuit.
Raising $300,000 from small donations is a pretty amazing achievement and we ask the Government of Canada, and those other governments who have also tossed away rights of their citizens, to take notice.
It’s still a marathon, but we are more than half way to pay off the Federal Court legal costs.
We have come so far because of our brave Plaintiffs, Ginny and Gwen, our Canadian and International donor-supporters, and the administrators of the Isaac Brock and Maple Sandbox websites who make it possible for our voices to be heard.
Thank you all,
—The ADCS-ADSC team
In relation to how the Harper government deals with things, gird yourself and take a look at the following most forthright presentation by journalist and author Michael Harris:
Thank you, LM. For me, it is about Stephen Harper and his robot Conservative MPs running the country of Canada. How I worry about what more is going on behind closed doors / our backs. Much in the video (thank you!!) relates to how we (US-defined *US Persons in Canada*) have been and will continue to be treated in this litigation we are donating to. It is VERY, VERY, VERY important to show him the door. I hope the people of Canada will do so. I’m so afraid there will be apathy and a continuation of Harper’s *reign*.

Whoops, seems like this link didn’t get sent: here it is (from journalist & author Michael Harris):
just spoke to a chap from town here who over the past 2 or 3 years has been trying out the snowbird lifestyle in arizona. at first it was only a couple of months and now he will be down there for a total of 4 months for 2015.
we chatted about the “american person for tax purposes” thing that is going on and he was saying that in his “village” of about 150 trailers the majority of whom are owned by canadians it is becoming a very hot topic for afternoon cocktails.
slowly but slowly the ice burg is melting and what started out as a few drips is turning into a small trickle and then a small stream with a flood coming………..
like Martin Luther King first said on July 6, 1965 “We shall Overcome”
those words carry just as much meaning today as they did almost 50 years ago…….
I would like to either move or copy LM’s comment/video to the thread about the election. We need to find out what other groups make up the coalition Mr. Harris mentioned. So far we have the idea of strategic voting but we will need to do a lot more than that to make sure we do not have another Harper govt.
@Calgary411. Keep the faith! Canadians appear apathetic but they’re not. Harper and his despicable shenanigans do not go unnoticed. There are rumblings and unrest in this country and we’re fed up with him and his miscreants. You can fool some of the people some of the time but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time. He doesn’t deserve a pension from the mess he created in Canada. Ten more months and he’s gone!
@Jan
I read a very interesting 30 page document in the economist on july 2008 about the 2008 crisis.
One economist (can’t remember his name) argued that we SHOULD NOT have helped the banks and let the system fall down on its knees. That would have forced gouvernments to think up a hole new system but instead, we just told them that everything is fine just keep on going as usually. He also said that helping the banks was “reculer pour mieux sauter” meening the next crisis would be worst.
Hey, I just found the article on Google : http://www.economist.com/node/11750402
Obviously the next crisis is coming up soon, probably towards the end of 2015 and they know it. That’s why they passed the agreement to make our money in banks part of their structural capital. To steal it away from us in case they need it.
I don’t know about you, but I think it’s time to buy gold and silver coins and hide them. Actually, investers advise people to put 5 to 25 % of their savings in physicall gold. China and Russia are not buying huge amounts of gold just to make wedding rings.
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/markets/questor/11311566/Gold-retains-position-as-safe-haven-for-2015.html
AS Dr. Paul Craig Roberts says, when the west runs out of gold, the western economy will collapse.
I personnally think that FATCA is part of a scheme to find money abroad to bring back to the US, from owed tax to penalties doesn’t matter, the US treasury is getting desperate.
Wait and see
“Lots of frowns the last few days and they hope that the pace will pick up.”
@ Stephen Kish
If the the mail tracker is correct you and they should be smiling on Thursday — maybe even on Wednesday. Lastest update is “item processed in Toronto”.
Ann, there is another who tells me through email to Keep The Faith!!! I think it should be our motto and our backbone in getting this litigation, with the help of Mr. Arvay and his colleagues, to the Canadian courts and in front of all Canadians — before an election is called.
LM has posted the video twice, Tricia. I can’t speak for her, but I think putting the video and LM’s comment on that more relevant post is a good idea. That could well be in two places, with something to send further commenters to the thread about the election.
Sending donation next payday : )
And more is on the way.
I was very moved by the comments of Stephen Kish regarding his emotional roller coaster over donations coming in to the post office or lack thereof.
It tells me two things: There are more people with us than we realize. You know us Canadians, quiet but supportive and vocal only when needs be.
And that Stephen Kish is a fine man indeed. A VERY fine man!
@FuriousAC: Stephen Kish is indeed a VERY fine man. The best,
And Gwen and Ginny are very brave women to be risking so much for so many. We need to do everything we can to support them. Let’s put smiles on the faces at the Post Office and frowns on the faces at Fiance and Justice as they use our own tax dollars to try to defeat us.
FuriousAC,
I’ll second that:
We are so lucky to have the expertise and commitment of those like Stephen Kish at ADCS-ADSC — and the many, many people, including you, that are part of Isaac Brock. It never ceases to amaze me and humble me the people who give so generously of their expertise and time here.
Stephen Kish, Ginny and Gwen are a part of history in the making. Their names will be well known as the ones who, together with our help, will be crutial in the turning point of Canada as a country. Canada will never bow down to US threats in any way, shape or form. I stand up and applaud their efforts and courage.
I don’t know how I lost notifications on this thread, but the image of Lynne going over and slapping that banker made reviewing most of the comments immensely worthwhile! I remember thinking how thankful I was that that Gerald Keddy and my husband weren’t in the same room when Keddy said that FATCA didn’t affect Canadians, basically saying that my husband, born in Canada and never lived in the US didn’t deserve all the rights and protections of other Canadians just because his father was a US citizen. He would have clocked him!

Worth a read and more research.
Wow. Thank you LM for that video. I wanted to say Wonderful video … but the matters are too grave for that adjective.
I did my virtual slap by closing my 33 year account at TD Canada Trust and moving to a credit union that has no interest in knowing where I was born.
It’s probably good I was not in Ottawa in person. I would not want to end up in jail.
I think John Richardson was in the room and maybe next to the smarmy CBA guy. I don’t know how he restrained himself.
I just hope I lived up to Roy Berg’s warning of “hyperbolic, jingoistic rhetoric admonishing Finance for ceding sovereignty.”
Roy Berg does not have a clue about Canadians!
The government’s legal team needs to review 3,000 documents before it can respond? Well, that’s more work than they did before jumping into the FATCA IGA. Maybe they’ll discover they don’t have a leg to stand on.
@Bubblebustin,
You had a typo: The number is 33,000 plus an undetermined number.
Thanks to those Stephen cites as today’s heroes for a good dent in the remainder we need to raise by February 1st. Keep on keeping on and thanks so much!!
Our Poet Laureate, and other kind donors, just helped us break through the very difficult $40,000 barrier but we will need more “heavy lifters” to make the Feb 1 retainer bill.
33,000? Well that’s a LOT more work than they did before jumping into the IGA! Is this a good or bad sign, Stephen?
