Review Previous Isaac Brock Society Post and Comments re Boris Johnson, Mayor of London
and then listen to this current interview of Mayor Johnson’s feelings about his own US citizenship (he renewed that US passport in 2012):
The Diane Rehm Show – Interview with Boris Johnson, November 13, 2014, which begs someone to contact him again regarding our existence and his possible assistance in the cause as he is one of them there “Accidentals” having apparently left the US when he was five years old. This will best be a job for someone who can get through the layers of bureaucracy to actually reach and communicate with Mr. Johnson.
Thank you for the post, Calgary411. As someone who entered OVDI with a tax liability on the sale of her home in Canada, this is of great interest to me. For him to make this comment while on a book tour in the US is really something!
You’re welcome, bubblebustin.
Yes, what he “ball-silly” said while in the US must especially be of great interest to you and your case!!!
Wow! Could this be a game changer. I hope all you “tweeters” have forwarded this link to the media. Thanks for posting this.
With Boris running for MP I suspect he’s going to try to get a relinquishment by claiming he works for a foreign government if he get re-elected.
At least we know his position on CBT now.
Boris doesn’t want to file 5 years of tax returns and pay the exit tax.
For me it’s not entirely clear whether he’s actually sold his London house or worried about the exit tax, but he’s certainly not keen paying capital gains on it to the IRS.
Boris will only pay it if he’s forced. I can never understand the Homelander mentality that the US Government has the right to tax people outside of the US.
I hope the IRS has listened to his interview. FATCA and CBT will just continue to anger more and more people against the US. I doubt Boris would go out of his way to help the US.
I can probably get through to Boris. My ex taught him at Eton. I was able to get through to him when he was a MP when I was lobbying for a bill going through Parliament
Maybe someone in the UK can contact the “Daily Mirror” to follow up on the Boris Johnson / FATCA story.
When the US spent years trying to extradite UK citizen and autistic computer Gary McKinnon’s, the Daily Mail’s “An Affront to British Justice” waged an outstanding advocacy against the encroachment of American’s extra-jurisdictional bullying. (see excerpt below)
The Daily Mail journalists behind that were: Mark Seamark, James Black, and Rebecca Evans.
Now London Mayor Boris Johnson will discover he’s a distinctly second class UK citizen. Although he is British citizen – and the Mayor of London – under a new and mostly unpublicized agreement between HMRA and the United States IRS, Mr Johnson’s bankers will be required to surrender the most intimate details of his financial affairs to a foreign state. Becuae he was born in the United States, he is now, under the Intergovernmental Agreement between HMRA and the US IRS, a distinctly second class British Citizen.
What are Mr Johnson’s reactions to this? Journalists in the UK should be encouraged to follow up.
——————— “AN AFFRONT TO BRITISH JUSTICE” in DAILY MIRROR ———————–
“Gary McKinnon’s ten-year nightmare was finally over yesterday after police and prosecutors decided he will not stand trial in Britain. The computer hacker won his fight against extradition two months ago when Theresa May blocked US demands to send him there. That decision marked a victory for the Daily Mail’s An Affront to British Justice campaign.”

murdodouglas,
If you could get through to speak or communicate with Boris Johnson, that would be significant and very much appreciated. Thank you!
Thanks for this comment with what you’ve suggested that could be an effective media highlight in London, the UK!
@Calgary411, some more links on Boris to put this in context and in one place.
First, Boris has a bad encounter years ago……2006….
http://www.boris-johnson.com/2006/08/29/american-passport/
But he renewed his US passport in 2012;
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-magazine-monitor-27371673
And post FATCA he makes the papers that he can not even have an account with National Savings and Investment!

Just as a note, I would personally be unable to support Boris to be an MP because of the allegiance requirement imposed by the USA demanding dual and equal allegiance.
Further, because he renewed a US Passport in 2012, he had to state that when he was previously elected as MP that he did NOT intend to relinquish his US Citizenship on the passport application. Should he run and be elected in 2015, how would State look at his previous statement and a possible desire to relinquish?
Some major UK newspapers have already been alerted about the story. I’m hoping something is published soon.
Another thought – Although I’ve managed to get several articles published in the UK by giving a few journalists the heads up, what we really need is someone to do a spot on UK Radio / TV so the UK can catch up to Canada in terms of media awareness.
Does anyone have any good contacts?
Perhaps someone doing an interview anonymously to start?
Calgary, thanks for posting this – it’s really good to hear someone like Boris speaking the truth about the States – in the States! But what also got me was the host Diane saying “we have a huge deficit problem here and you could help”!! I could just picture the look of shock on his face where there was a second of silence!
She asked the Mayor of London to help with the American deficit! Bloody Hell!
I think what also happens to a lot of people is they think paying taxes to America is just the difference of the 2 tax levels of the countries – so if taxes are higher in their country they figure it wont be a problem. They won`t owe anything. Then they get a DELAYED wake up call like Boris when he found out that the sale of his home residence which is not taxed in England will be a HUGE tax bill in America.
It all sounds so benign- the devil is in the details.
@Polly
Yes, definitely. That is what I have found. People think that it is o.k. because they don’t realize the full implications of the tax law.
The Diane Rehm question about the debt was really shocking. Houses in London have gone up a lot, so he could be looking at an enormous CGT bill.
I have used Boris as an example of the problems of US tax policy with about 400 people, so I am glad he doesn’t mind.
What I am finding in the U.K. is lots of Canadians who are dual nationals.
@George
I suspect with Boris that part of the problem is that he is wealthy. None of this wealth comes from the U.S., but they would want their bit.
I suspect Mr. Johnson will end up getting a special dispensation from the State Dept. and IRS, and be allowed to go merrily on his way. They can’t be bothered hassling him — they have smaller fish to fry.
The IRS “have smaller fish to fry”, lol! Thanks for the laugh!
I agree with Foo. I think IRS will give him a complete pass because they know the PR disaster it will cause them.
Instead, they are determined to FATCA all the small fish in Canada and around the world to make examples of us.
However, if we could get Boris to speak out against FATCA, it could be a real game changer for us. I tweeted Boris before and just did again asking if he knows about FATCA.
This is my tweet 2 him 2day.

@MayorofLondon “Outrageous” #IRS wants taxes from u http://bit.ly/1x2TcCL Do u know about #FATCA? .Help fight. w/ http://stopfatca.ca/
Does anyone have the ability to reach the King of Thailand? He was born in the U.S. in 1927 when his father was attending Harvard. Again, I think the IRS will give him a pass, but he technically is a “US person.”
Here is a second tweet to Boris

@MayorofLondon From my London in Canada 2 ur London in UK. “Outrageous” #IRS wants 2 #FATCA us b/c born in US. Help http://stopfatca.ca/
I will certainly try.
BTW, my application for relinquishment, made at the Consulate in Amsterdam (where I now live) , was rejected with what was probably record speed. I was told it would take months but it was exactly 4 weeks from interview to rejection. I had made 3 oaths of allegiance to the Queen of England, 2 when I was sworn in as a magistrate. Didn’t make any difference, they nailed me on the US passport I had to obtain, under duress, in order to enter the country to be with my dying mother.
Why should the IRS give him a pass? Now THATS outrageous. Is that to keep him quiet? Will he get a pass if he renounces too, because after the house sale shock I could imagine this might be his next step. If the exit tax is keeping him from doing so, then all the MORE reason for him to protest publicly and take up the cause for RBT.
Send him over here to read what is being written about him.
@murdo Douglas. I’m so sorry your relinquishment was rejected. I think you can ask for a review or something can you? Maybe a lawyer would help make them take it seriously.
@Polly: They SHOULDN’T give BJ a pass, but I’m betting they and British banks will because of the PR and diplomatic disaster it would cause if they didn’t.
The same folks who sold out ordinary UK citizens born in US would be the first to scream if the IRS or British banks go after BJ.
murdo douglas,
I, too, am dismayed that your relinquishment was not approved — presumably not approved in Washington, DC? I hope there is a way you are able to appeal that decision — Pacifica will know of other(s) who have been able to relinquish with the same fact of having HAD TO OBTAIN a US passport for travel — yours, as you say, under duress for visiting your dying mother.
If he does get elected to Parliament, I hope he takes the opportunity to decry the US sucking money out of the UK economy via Citizenship Based Taxation. Maybe he could demand the US-UK tax treaty be renegotiated to remove the savings clause, for example.
@Murdo Douglas Perhaps if yu repost this on the relinquishment/renunciation post someone can figure out something you can do
