[We now have a NEW POST taking us up to February 1, 2015. This post will be retired from service.]
THE AUTUMN 2014 UPDATE
Dear Donors,
Together, we reached our goal of $100,000 to pay the November 1 legal bill 11 days ahead of schedule!
Thank you Canadian donors from coast to coast and our friends from around the world for your generosity, support and determination — and especially for not being afraid.
The name of our non-profit corporation is the “Alliance for the Defence of Canadian Sovereignty.”
We were very deliberate in including in our name the word “sovereignty”, which forms a cornerstone of our Claims against the Government of Canada.
Canada and dozens of other countries throughout the world gave into a bully because their “leaders” were afraid of harm caused by a trading “partner” — and they gave their sovereignties away.
Help us convince by example the Leaders and Governments of all countries worldwide that they should return their sovereignties back to their Peoples.
Please continue to support our lawsuit.

Chers donateurs,
» (Helen Keller)

@Domino Don’t forget the US gifting laws to gift to nonUS persons and this could be family members. A nonUS spouse? There is extra gift allowed there every year.
Off topic, but I just noticed there’s still a link to my old blog under “Profiles on some participants”. Can an admin remove it? The link’s been dead for a while (my blog provider went out of business and I never bothered starting a new personal blog); just worried that having the dead link there might cause Google to penalise us slightly & hurt our SEO (since it’s a dead link showing up on every page on the site)
Done. I didn’t know that about the negative effect dead links could have on SEO, and your comment is a good reminder it’s time to check the links. Thanks.
@Pacifica777 may I request a favicon for the IB site for a mini picture of Isaac Brock to appear in the upper left of the web tab, instead of the blank page with right corner folded.
A Tweet: Solomon Yue @SolomonYue 3h
@MiaChupacabra Timing is Bopp’s decision. We already raised > $100K 4 his legal research & will launch #FATCA Legal Action website tomorrow.
@ JC, I like your idea to have a favicon of Isaac Brock. I’ll get in touch with the other admins about it. Thanks for the suggestion.
Thanks, JC, for posting the Solomon Yue tweet to MiaChupacabra here at Brock! Good news.
This e-mail accompanied one of today’s donations and is posted above:

Tim Harper has an article in the Toronto Star (online and today’s print version) on the renunciation fee increase (which “will not slow the stampede”) and FATCA (“aided and abetted by the Conservative government”) in which he mentions at length our lawsuit (“Arvay argues that the legislation forfeits Canadian sovereignty to a foreign state…”).
Harper also cites “Chris”, a “Toronto businessman” who relinquished last year.
Some Canadian journalists like Harper continue to feel that our stories are “newsworthy” and I thanked him for writing the article.

Stephen, I think all of us evolving in the language we use in this debate and that is good.
The article from Tim Harper states;
“It’s all about taxes and the long reach of Washington, the only nation that taxes its citizens regardless of where they live or where they earned their income.”
Actually thats not true……..
A more apt statement would be;
Its not about taxes because most people would owe no tax, its about draconian penalties if a single confusing form is not filed or its prepared the slightest bit incorrectly. Its about the compliance industry that charges thousands of dollars to prepare a “tax return” that has no tax owing to the United States.
George, I agree that it more than just “taxes”. But it is a lot more than penalties and filing fees too that you mention.
One of my colleagues calls it U.S. imposed “life control”.

Love, love, love that cartoon. Thank you, Deb! 🙂 🙂 🙂
What a great cartoon, Deb. It did bring a smile to my face. It needs to go into newspapers all over Canada and the US. Now just to get them printed in the papers is another matter.
On second thought the leaves on the tree should be US greenbacks! Ha!
I saw a good cartoon last week in our local newspaper and e-mailed the artist, Ingrid Rice, to ask if she had a website where it could be viewed. She graciously provided me with this link …

Please give it a star and a thumbs up and maybe share it with your social media friends too.
Cartoon. A great one. Maybe the ADCS web address along the bottom, and a weblink for the cartoon where people may be directed to.

Thank you for the cartoon Deb ! Great work !
@Stephen
I thanked Tim Harpur via Twitter. It would be good if at least a few of us did this on a regular basis. One of the simplest ways to build PR!
Today’s Jello Shot email from Phil Hodgen ( ‘[Expatriation] $2,350 fee to renounce? Expect more renunciations’) explores the recent renunciation fee hike (he reminds that there was no fee until 2010 https://www.federalregister.gov/articles/2010/06/28/2010-15622/schedule-of-fees-for-consular-services-department-of-state-and-overseas-embassies-and-consulates ) and gives his predictions as to the options available to UScitizens abroad, the likely reactions of those abroad, and further punishment the US is likely to apply (“the beatings will continue…..”).
I wondered on another thread http://isaacbrocksociety.ca/2014/09/01/obvious-moral-principle-the-number-of-dogs-at-the-pound-is-not-an-excuse-for-a-man-to-abuse-the-dog-he-already-has/comment-page-1/#comment-2863154 whether we’ll see the enactment of a “Fugitive USPerson” or “Fugitive US Citizen Act” similar to the Fugitive Slave Acts http://www.math.buffalo.edu/~sww/0history/SlaveActs.html .
Note that; “…..Similar laws existing in both North and South in colonial days applied also to white indentured servants and to Native American slaves. “……
Which reminds me of the recent call here for witnesses from several categories of affected Canadians in addition to those deemed to be US citizens (ex. greencard holders, business partners, etc.). There are far more Canadians harmed by the FATCA IGA and Canadian enabling legislation than the >1million cited as the likely population of those Canadian citizens and legal residents who are also deemed to be US citizens.
The ONLY conclusion that we can draw from the creation of, and exponential rise in the renunciation fee from ZERO to 2350. US in such a few short years ( between 2010 and 2014) – is that the US fully intends to continue to treat those abroad as chattel, force as many as possible to remain in servitude forever, or extract whatever compensation it imposes, in renunciation fees, and via the exit tax and expatriation gauntlet.
Another compelling reason to fund and support this legal challenge. This is clear evidence that the US is set on punitive and vindictive and doesn’t and will NEVER give a damn what harm it is posing – even to those who will clearly owe it nothing.
Preventing Canada and other nations from aiding and abetting the US in this is the only direct remedy we have – in our own home countries, and the time for this is NOW.
@badger
Some interesting speculation on Phil’s part, but I didn’t much like the reference to our conscientious tax objectors as being “relatively unsophisticated” (ordinary) – with little idea of what they’re doing. He also expects many won’t comply for ethical and practical reasons. Both reasons seem pretty sophisticated to me, unless his idea of sophistication is the ability to hire people like him.
Perhaps another reason for the fee hike:
“Instead of facing the problems directly, the Obama Administration has resorted to punitive measures. The shame and blame tactic of calling out businesses who wish to relocate as “unpatriotic” was undignified. Perhaps realizing that using the same strategy with individuals would be even less well received, they went the more quiet, direct route,” the CFP’s Alan Joel wrote.”

Tweeted the Harper bus ‘toon to my MP and his opponent in the next election. It’s a good one.
