September 29, 2014
Greetings:
As we reach the end of September it occurs to me that we are reaching the end of the first four months of active fundraising. I thought it would be good for the Directors of ADCS-ADSC.ca to create a blog to communicate with you easily and directly.
We live in exciting times. Our “Stop FATCA” project is certainly exciting. It is also exhausting and full of emotional “ups and downs”.
Our lawsuit started several years ago with an idea. It was an idea based on what “concerned Canadians” could/would do if the Government of Canada:
– Under threat of economic sanction “agreed” to implement FATCA in Canada (the Canada-U.S. FATCA IGA was signed on February 5, 2014); and
– Changed Canadian law (as per the IGA) to implement the U.S. FATCA legislation in Canada (the Government of Canada did this prior to the July 1, 2014 deadline).

Many thanks for the work, donations, and support from our IBS people. I am so grateful to know that I’m not in this disaster alone. I’m not so fearful as I was in the beginning. The US has a way of terrifying people. I don’t live there anymore! Great work and I will continue to give my utmost support to this cause.
In the end, ADCS’s success may be in the number of people allowed to remain oblivious to their efforts, with their lives kept intact. Unfortunately, that puts the financial burden on those who have a true comprehension of what’s at stake here.
Given the poor press coverage, it is not very surprising that more people do not know about FATCA and its impact. While I agree that it is important to spend most of the donations on legal cost, how can we get more national coverage – not just of FATCA itself, but more importantly ADCS?
I am not Canadian, nor living in Canada, but have you tried to reach out to the politicians who asked and fought well in the finance panel? Can they use their mailing list of constituents to mention the challenge and mention ADCS?
Could we get bigger political donations from them?
The organizations who have lists of Americans abroad, like ACA are obviously opposed to even mention the lawsuit. They’re the ones who could help spread the word and encourage people to donate. Shame on them.
And it was with great pleasure I finally made my donation – I just took what I was going to spend on less worthy causes and gave it to you guys. 🙂
And just for fun (and perhaps this is not the best place for this but I didn’t want to make a post of it) –
In honor of the folks coming to Paris for the AARO/RO Bopp event on Monday I’m having an Open House at the Flophouse in Versailles on Saturday. Here’s what I posted about it this morning:

Nothing fancy, just a chance to get together for those who are interested.
@ Victoria
I knew you wouldn’t miss an opportunity to meet up with James Bopp and others. It’s like they picked Paris just so you could be there. I’ll find a corner of your garden and sit there quietly, happily and invisibly during your open house. It’s so typically gracious of you to think of something like that. It will be an interesting 3 days, from flop to bopp.

Does anyone know the Bopp schedule in the rest of the EU? I thought I read they are coming to London.
