We need people to wake up and join the Legal Challenge, but they won’t do so unless they know what is happening to our country.
This is how the CBC is reporting on the eve of FATCA:
“When Canada’s banks reopen for business on July 2, they will begin formally operating as informants for the United States Internal Revenue Service — the IRS.
Financial institutions in Canada will be required to ask all new and existing clients opening a new account questions such as where they were born, and possibly where their parents were born.
Those who indicate they have a connection to the U.S. will have their files sent to the Canada Revenue Agency — which will automatically pass them along to the IRS.”
“Canadian citizens who decline to answer the new set of questions could have their personal banking information passed along to Uncle Sam to determine if they are a “U.S. person.” Or, the bank could refuse to open an account for those who refuse to answer the questions.”………………..

@FuriousAC
Since we’re at war, why not take some inspiration from one of history’s greatest warriors?
…and thank you for the chuckle over my morning coffee: “Under reasonable statistical assumptions, that makes the IRS scandal disappearance rate about as likely as the emails having been eaten by unicorn, with a probability far smaller than 1%.”
@Badger
Fitzmo to the rescue!
The pathetic way the Canadian media in general has chosen to cover FATCA can only be compared to seeing an encroaching army and tolling the bell as they’re topping the walls. Shameful and not worthy of being Canadian or first-rate news outlets.
I forwarded the press release to Paul Dewar, my MP and NDP Foreign Affairs Critic.
Today I received the following email reply from Paul:
Thank you for sharing this press release with me. My colleagues and I will continue to hold the government to account on this issue. I am sure we will also be raising it during the next election as a prime example of the Conservatives’ failure to protect the privacy rights of Canadians, and their disregard for our national sovereignty.
So, watch and wait for this to be an election issue to be raised by the NDP next year. This ain’t going away, Stevie Boy. It will bite you in the behind, big-time, I deeply hope. And hundreds if not thousands of Brockers and Sandboxers will be in the weeds snapping away at your and your candidates’ sorry butts over this during the next election campaign. If the courts haven’t thrown it out already under the charter challenge.
Anyone able to find the clip of the CBC TV red banner notice re FATCA in effect (thanks for that tidbit LM)?
I think it should be posted here for posterity, and for dramatic effect, but I don’t know how to find it. Did anyone else see it? Did the banner appear during the news, or overtop of another item?
Commemorative tshirt says:

“On Canada’s Birthday I was FATCA’d by the US, and all I got was this lousy t-shirt”

Hey, I hate Harper as much as the next guy, but the intellectual level of that NYT article is just pathetic. It’s as though they just let a Liberal write a campaign ad for free. Not good journalism, but hey, what do you expect from the USA?
