UPDATE JUNE 27 2014
No Organized Program is Confirmed for This Event
For all of you in the Vancouver area, there is an opportunity to make yourselves heard to our Minister of National Revenue, Kerry-Lynne D Findlay. As Minister, she is directly responsible for the FINA Committee and the passage of Part 5 of the Omnibus Bill C-31.
There are a couple of activities that present themselves – first there is a citizenship ceremony on the Main Stage from 8:30-9:30 am. While it may be a good idea to be respectful as this is a Canadian ceremony, any new Canadians who are also USCs or USPs may not be aware of what is going on.
The Parade marches off at 10am sharp from Garry Point Park and winds through the streets of Steveston past the Community Centre to Railway Avenue. I have been told that the Minister, who is the MP for this area, attends this every year.
If anyone wants to volunteer to organize this, please let me know or else post a comment indicating that. While it is too late to apply for a permit, people could gather in pairs, spread out to voice their disdain for what is going on. Some of our previous protests were quite small and yet, had an impact.
I looked for past posters in our media files and came up with the three below.
And this post has many suggestions for slogans.
Go for it!
As much as I’d like to, family may have to take priority.
@Bubblebustin, you mean this wasn’t your idea?
It would be cool if a few Brockers could show up.
Perhaps people could send the files to a printer and have various sizes of leaflets made?
Maybe 4 or 6 up per sheet. Also, could make stickers as well with glossy surface thousand each; cut 200 sheets or whatever and scatter them all over the parade route on the ground. People can’t miss them. Walk among the crowd and drop them as you go until the ground is littered with thousands of them both in the street where the floats are and the sidewalk.
Possible meeting spot? Intersection of Moncton Road and Number 1 Road, at the base of the park?
Make sure to be present around the “Investors Group” area at the Trade Show. Maybe not too prominently…but just enough to as they walk away to hand them a pamphlet saying “Did you know that US investments are taxable to the IRS?”
I would have loved to attend that event, but I don’t live in that province. I’ve been thinking that my town has a small parade that the federal MP might perhaps march in. Maybe I can buttonhole him if I do see him. He has certainly been very difficult (deliberately slippery?) to reach by all other methods (phone, email, in person to constituency office)! I guess he doesn’t feel any obligation to represent me or any others like me.
