Marry this NDP petition with Petros New Post: “NDP calling on Harper government: Remove FATCA from omnibus budget bill“.
If you, like many Canadians, are concerned about the implementation of the USA FATCA (Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act) IGA (intergovernmental agreement) being buried in yet another omnibus bill, C-31, rather than thoroughly studied on its own merits in a stand-alone bill, please voice your concern by signing the NDP petition — then pass it on to your Canadian family, friends, business associates and neighbours (many of whom could also be indirectly affected). By precedent being set, this should concern ALL Canadians.
Cross-posted from MapleSandbox.ca:
PROTECT CANADIANS FROM FATCA is a just launched petition from the NDP.
Tell Stephen Harper to protect our constitutional and privacy rights from this invasive U.S. law.
The Conservatives are rushing to implement an American law that threatens the rights of more than a million Canadians…
Let’s send Stephen Harper a message:
It’s time to put Canadians first.Canadians, please sign the on line petition.
This was sent to Lynne Swanson by Murray Rankin’s Assistant. More on Murray Rankin’s FATCA page on his website.
Signed!
Me too!
Done! Please, Brockers, we want some more signatures. (And maybe some thank you e-mails to NDP MPs too, if you have time.)
signed and shared!!
Signed and thank you, NDP!
Signed!
all done and tweeted, shared on FB pages
Signed and forwarded; sent my brief to the Finance Committee. last night.
I hope that the NDP eventually stops saying “dual citizen”, but other than using that term, they really seem to get it!
For those of us without a CLN, is it safe to sign a petition?
@Queenston “I hope that the NDP eventually stops saying “dual citizen”, but other than using that term, they really seem to get it!”
Spot on, could somehow convey to them such language is racist. It implies you are not loyal to Canada and HM QE II.
Could someone write? Sorry but I am not a Canadian….sigh….just a relinquished American.
No name, “For those of us without a CLN, is it safe to sign a petition?”
Its easy for me to say this but I would say yes.
Any Canadian can sign not just those with clinging nationality.
But you could always use your forename initials then surname.
Signed and forwarded.
Was never so happy than to tweet my FATCA IGA supporting MP with that. This is absolutely fantastic that the NDP is running with this.
@no name
on one hand i share your concern about “outing” myself as i am in no way shape or form ever getting a cln. nor will i ever be crossing the border into the ussa ever again.
but gosh darn it i am not going to live in fear of my own gov’t and fatca. F*&k that.
i am canadian and that is all the banks, the cra or the irs is going to be getting from me!!!!
i refuse to be afraid of my canadian gov’t anymore and i certainly hope that harper and his cronies are wiped out in 2015.
heck i would even vote for the rino party again.
I’ve signed, shared on Facebook and emailed my entire contact list.
I agree with mettleman, I refuse to live in fear.
I’ll be voting NDP for the first time next election, as well as putting up a big NDP sign on the front lawn.
@Noname. I do not care. This is a fight for the death, and I have to sign it, just like I signed every letter and email I have sent to various politicians. The only ones who you should be worried about ‘outing’ yourself to (in my opinion) are the banksters. Everyone else is fair game. In fact if we do not tell them who we are, we lose all our POWER. Give em hell Noname!!!!
Signed and forwarded! Now on to my submissions.
Signed and forwarded to several friends, family and media outlets…..
Not signing that. Instead I phoned Lib national party hdq and told a volunteer on the phone that I am an American (I’m not) and did she know that the NDP just threw a bomb into the Liberals US related constituency across the Canada because they were the first to publicly call for the recall of FATCA and that every single person of that label will now NOT vote Liberal and that The LIBS are too late as the cats out of the bag? I reiterated forcefully the 1 million (ONE MILLION) Canadian citizens and their circle of family and friends and said I really wanted to vote Liberal (a lie of course because I don’t vote) but because I am an American (lie) I along with 1 million other voters who are as well will never ever ever vote for Liberals and that they should have done the same thing the NDP just did and I invited them to watch the video on http://www.isaacbrocksociety.ca (as she had no idea what I was talking about……sound like Justin Blooper a bit?) and then I said, “Hey, great job” facetiously and said GOOD BYE!
So whoever is recording hits on this site I expect every Liberal MP or other politicians will visit us. I encourage people here to sign petitions if it makes them feel good but doing a bit of guerrilla warfare as i just did will have a thousand times the effect. I have never seen petitions ever ever work in a case like this and all it does is convince the Government that there are a lot of law abiding (our biggest mistake) citizens in Canada that won’t do more than sign their name to something.
@ ChearsBigEars
Good call but you could do both. I look at the petition as being a good for you, right on track, keep going, pataback for the NDPs as much as a message for the Cons who will ignore it. I haven’t thought about what to do about the Libs (they do have a couple of good guys who get it) but your phone call gave me some ideas. Thanks. JT sure watched a shipload of supporters sail away due to his lack of understanding and action. Speaking of hits — Brock went over 9 million recently. I’ll take the blame for several thousand of those though.
Signed.
Murray Rankin continues to be my hero.
@mettleman, your words were humbling and encouraging, God speed.
@Cheers….superb tactic, superb.
@Chears.. Good work! I agree with you, petitions are good, but, live protests get the media’s attention. What about a “good” supportive protest outside the NDP’s office? This would be in support of Mr. Rankin and the NDP’s. If we gather outside of the office with signs that support and thank the NDP for standing up for Canada, this could be a turning point here. What would the media think? A “support” protest? Never heard of in out history…. think about it……
Signed the petition and posted on FB. I will contact my NDP rep and thank him personally. My email to Trudeau fell on deaf ears a couple of months ago. The fact that the volunteers in Cheers’ riding know nothing about FACTA is not surprising. The NDP is listening! Yeah!
I just called Joe Oliver’s office and was told all of my previous email questions and concerns are LOST. They do not have anything for me or from me! Even email and hand written questions sent through my local MP, Joe Preston, are gone!! God dam liars!!!! I told his reception that if he puts FATCA through, CANADA will FIGHT him till the end. LIARS!!!!
