OTTAWA β Former finance minister Jim Flaherty has passed away.
Police and paramedics were gathered Thursday around a downtown Ottawa condominium.
The House of Commons immediately suspended business.
Flaherty, 64, had been battling a rare skin condition, but insisted upon his surprise resignation last month that his health was not a contributing factor in his decision to step down. He had stayed on as the MP for Whitby-Oshawa, but was not planning to seek re-election.
The former minister was discovered with no vital signs.
It’s interesting how different people respond to the same stress. My husband, the accidental American, NEVER worries about FATCA. He says I worry enough for both of us. I worry so much my drug cocktail requires me to keep a calendar!
All joking aside, I can’t tell when a poster is just venting or if they’re about to have a stroke. High blood pressure is very dangerous and should not be left untreated. I take blood pressure meds and it helps alot. Of course the anti depressants and anxiety meds probably help even more.
At least I don’t drink! Although I have considered smoking pot but decided against it. Some days the stress is just too much …
The problem with “saying nothing at all” is that it doesn’t do wonders for my blood pressure so instead of keeping it all in, I focus it and get it out in the open. So “venting my spleen” is my release valve.
Jim Flaherty had his chance to do right by those of us who are Canadians. He failed to do so. End of story.
@ OMG
I’m too old and out of touch to know where or how to get it but if I did I would bake it into delicious chocolate brownies and then maybe I’d be able to gain back the weight I worried off. Take good care of yourself and may the FATCA hammer never hit your unflappable hubby. (Mine’s the same, BTW.)
omgheestillanamerican: LMAO. Thanks for the needed laugh. Pot… Sounds like a great idea, but I think I’d have to weigh that between the enjoyable aspects and “staying out of jail”. π
We feel we respect RIP.
It is all in our actions but some people don’t care…. We should do better in life.
Jim Flaherty could have done better. He screwed us, left the government and now gone-just like that. FATCA hurt and affected millions of Canadians, their health, their family, their savings of years of work, retirements, etc so I don’t think we are grateful to his actions. He was part of the Harper’s government, accomplice to the US in the end. Facts and actions talk by themselves.
