Deb says:
…while I wanted to actually mention Harper and the Conservatives, I agree with Chears that that would probably be hard to get submitted.
So I made the ad as generic as I could while still getting the gist. At least I hope so.
The layout is like the one Chears ran and is intended as a starting point. Input from everyone is welcome and appreciated.
There is other advertisement discussion at http://isaacbrocksociety.ca/2014/03/28/breaking-news-tories-hide-fatca-law-in-budget-act/comment-page-2/#comment-1318170.
(Note:Β I’m just putting this in one place in case people want to discuss options of what they’d like to do.Β I am not the coordinator for this effort, just the poster.)

REPLACEMENT OF FINAL VERSION of ad from Chears:
Newer ad from Chears, the first being the “final” / the final FINAL above:
Original ad from Chears:
Want to really get peoples attention?
Put it this way:
A NEW Canadian Law that Requires that YOUR financial information be sent to the IRS
Don’t like the word Classified on top of FATCA
Will come out cloudy in a newspaper ad and looks messy
Also, re (@Em): “to find out what ALL Canadians need to know” – I agree, this is better.
I like that, Chears. That will make EVERYBODY have a look.
and even if the statement isn’t totally accurate we want EVERYONE, all Canadians to get riled up and calling their MP’s (BTW MP also stands for Military Police)
@Em and Wren, OK, I guess I am just hyper sensitive to any portrayal as FATCA being a problem for Americans living in Canada, as opposed to this being an attack on Canadians with a distant US connection. I tend to over-think things sometimes.
I don’t suppose we will get slammed by the banks for bending the truth a wee bit ha ha ha ha?
@ChearsForBigEars,
Then go for Atticus’s wording suggestions. They got me riled up!
BTW, what we need is a recognizable BRAND which is why I incorporate the general…eye catching and soon to be recognizable. I think it should be included because many who read it will know who he is and the rest will wonder why Napoleon is making another appearance π
@All,
I really hope we’re not going to make @Deb regret coming forward with her excellent proposal by summarily tearing it to shreds. This is not a competition, and there will certainly be more than one ad.
There are A LOT of smart cooks in this kitchen, but sometimes you just gotta hand it to the chef. Either that or let the dining room starve to death.
@All, I had to step away for the day and not even look at IBS. As my heart is with you all on the other side of the pond, this is the second time I have been thrown under the bus. Back to having acute anxiety reactions….
I think Cheers is getting close with “A NEW Canadian Law that Requires that YOUR financial information be sent to the IRS”
Or maybe “A NEW Canadian Law that Requires that YOUR financial information be sent to the IRS in Washington.”
Or maybe βA NEW Canadian Law that Requires that YOUR personal financial information be sent to the IRS in Washington.β
@Wren, You should have been around when we conjured up the Canadian version of the FATCA fact sheet. That was fun.
@Deb,
Welcome to Brock.
@WhiteKat,
How could it not be that way, though? We’re just people brought together by a thing we don’t want or need. If this were the “Isaac Agrees With Everyone Society”, well, it would be less volatile but also less interesting. π
@Wren,
For sure.
It’s got to be short and too the point.
I have yet another revision but don’t know how to upload it
Think its more in line with the current opinions
so how do I present this?
@all,
Great comments, thank you.
The ad is not intended for Brockers. It’s intended for your opposites. I respectively submit that because of your knowledge and passion for the content, you are all (most) looking beyond the simple message we need to get out.
An American law will come into effect in Canada on July 1.
That’s it. That’s the tragedy here. What it is, why it is, how we are going to stop it happening, can be found at IBS and in future, bigger ads. It’s not a Canadian law – yet.
Chears – I think the Isaac Brock image should be used too. It’s not always necessary, especially when space is limited. But do we own that image? Do we have the right to use it in advertising? We are talking about laws here after all.
Wren – I did originally have “what Canadians need to know” but changed it to “supposed to know” to keep with the ‘secret’ theme of the ad.
So anyway, I’ll insert your suggestions after dinner and ask Calgary411 to repost.
@Deb,
“need to know” or “supposed to know” – when you put it that way, I say stick with what you’ve got. Looking forward to seeing the revised (hopefully not too much) ad.
Do we have the right to use it in advertising?
Yes, we do. I checked and am pretty sure its public domain. Peter checked too I’m sure
Someone please tell me how to submit the one I’ve been working on for 2 hours? Thank you
@Chears a lot of people will likely be back in a few minutes. I wasn’t on here …Earth Hour is big in my city. We participated.
I don’t know how to upload your image as I don’t do that on these pages but, I am certain someone will be back to tell you soon!
The line I used in My ad that I posted was “USA attacks Canadian Banks” . Not sure if that is helpful, but I did use it. I hope anyone with ideas posts them on here…. united we stand…. you know the rest….
An American law threatening Canadian Rights and Sovereignty!
Who has uploading privileges here? I have a new ad
I don’t and looks like Calgary and those who do are not around. Don’t you, White Kat??
