As some have predicted, the IGA legislation has been buried in the Budget Implementation Act.
Little likelihood for free vote now. One source tells us that final reading of the bill in the House may happen by end of May/June.

The Cons continue their sneaky games. They have hidden the law to enable FATCA and the IGA in the 375 page omnibus Budget Implementation Act 2014.

The enabling law begins on page 72 (Clause 99). The IGA begins on page 313.
A source tells me it is possible the FATCA legislation could pass by late May or June.
So, now we know what Finance Canada did with all of our submissions. Nothing.

March 29 Update on Joe Arvay Legal Opinion:
Just to let everyone know that Lynne Swanson and I contacted Joe Arvay today (Saturday, March 29) for an update.
He tells us that he is on track to provide the legal opinion on the FATCA IGA legal challenge in April — but that there is a possibility that it might take longer because not all can be predicted. Mr. Arvay wants to get this right.
I know all of us want the answer today, but please be patient.

Like I said so many times and I’ll say this again. YOU CANNOT WORK WITHIN THE SYSTEM…PERIOD. Now do you all understand? We must go to great lengths to destroy their image they spend so much on. Everyone affected must make it a point to talk to at least 10 others and try to get them to switch from banks to PM’s and credit unions (which may or not be safe but at least they opposed FATCA in principle) and also creatively engage in any legal subversion of their efforts.
Politics:
EVERYONE must make a vow to ditch all other parties except The Green Party. If the Greens get a million active unofficial campaigners and supporters then that would be enough to throw off the balance of power in Ottawa. If there are any supporters of the Conservatives, Liberals or NDP here….PLEASE LEAVE THIS SITE
General: Decide what side you are really on. If you are “American” but want to send a strong message to our Government and the USA then do everything possible to be hostile to American tourists to make them feel unwanted here in Canada. I flip the bird at people in cars with US plates whenever I can. I point to their plate and make sure they know why. When you attack tourism you indirectly affect our economy. Help drive our dollar down any way you can.

I should not have been right because a government that is operating for the good of their country would NOT hide something like this in another bill. In fact I think to do so should be utterly illegal. If FATCA is so good then why hide it in some other action?

So someone please tell me what LAWS are for if the government can break them anytime it sees fit? How can a police officer enforce a question mark? As stated before, we are sacrifices, simply put. Unless we get more serious about letting the Canadian population know how dirty the government really is, we will lose this battle. Even today, again on Ham radio, I told the Fatca story to several Americans and some Canadians and NOBODY knew. Two American guys told me there is no way the USA would do this to it’s own nationals in other countries. They are in disbelief. I know they are here looking as I gave this sites info and at 1000 watts on short wave, I’m sure many more heard about Brock. Time to get the word out big time! I’m in this with you all and willing to do more for the innocent Canadians involved. Getting the word out I think it of utmost importance here….
All of these governments do what they want to do because they can. Having now been made aware of how the implementing legislation is buried I would strongly recommend that every stop be pulled out to (i) make your legislators aware that this is wrong and will be challenged, and (ii) get this in the main media. Legal challenges should be noted to legislators by individuals suchs as Peter Hogg (again).
Not being Canadian, for the first time I just read your Charter. A beautiful document.
It is so clear that this IGA violates both sections 8 and 15 with respect to Canadian Citizens.
The only way they can maybe make this charter proof is never ask national origin questions AND hand over the financial information of every Canadian not distinguishing between any class of Canadians.

Everyone should make a real grass root effort by writing to their community newspapers in their ridings, exposing their MP’s as being for against the actions of our current federal government and directing people to Brock. We would really benefit from organizing ads to be run in our local newspapers. What the ads will say needs to be debated and agreed on to get the word out asap. I pledge 100.00 to this effort to start with. As I stated before, I am not a good writer, but will support this effort and do anything I can to forward the effort to the public. I will also keep the conversation going on Short wave and get the word out……
While the legal battle is fought, it has to move on to using other documents to fight back and move it on the the system’s next problem. Fake documents withe genuine names just fake place of birth fir dual citizens. Someone I once knew said make the system work for you and expkoit its weaknesses.

NC…..I have been in advertising and marketing for 37 years. The ad that was run in the Delta newspaper cannot be improved upon. The ad manager at the paper group said it was the best ad he has seen in a long time because it is simple, eye catching, bright and colorful and effectively makes a simple statement. The WORST thing you can do is run an ugly information ridden ad that no one will read. You must understand signs and print ads. The average attention span is 2 whole seconds, that’s all you have !!!! If you can’t pique their interest by then you have wasted your time and money. All the information one needs is on this fantastic site. A simple eye catching ad such as that targeted at the US audience will do the trick. You should phone the sales guy on the link to the ad and ask him WHY does he think that ad is effective.
OK? Do this please. He is a professional, I am a professional as well and have done this kind of thing most of my life.

That ad on page 4 of the Squamish Chief will reach 4000 people there who already read the letter to the editor and the silly response from that bankster fellow. Now the people in that area need more info so I will also donate 100.00 to run that ad. If it runs next Thursday then the deadlines are Monday.
So two more people are needed. Don’t forget that this info reaches hundreds of USPs living in Whistler and along the Sea to Sky corridor
What about an ‘Open Letter’ full page to the PM and the legislators in major Canadian newspapers by IBS and Maple Sandbox? The simple ad approach I is good but I don’t really see a lot of impact. American Citizen’s Abroad have not adopted the Open Letter approach because they believe that the impact is fleeting, but in this case it might be worth it given that the legislation is buried in the budget and the government is trying to just slip it through.
If anyone wants to do this then make sure you pay by Monday 4 PM
