Yes and I just came to the realization that Russia will never sign FATCA agreements with the USA in my lifetime and so I’m seriously thinking of moving there. I see no percentage in staying in the sphere of the EU, USSA no matter how difficult life is in Russia. I’d love to see everyone embarrass the USA by seeking political and humanitarian asylum in Russia by the thousands to create a public relations nightmare for the US. I’m going to start looking into this next week. Enough is enough is enough. If Canada doesn’t protect us and the USSA doesn’t want us but just wants to rob us I’ll take my chances in Russia. There is almost nothing left that I like about our society.

This illustrates the danger of the dream of creating a cashless society held by many governments and their bankster cronies. Big Brother can cut you off anytime he wants.
@ChearsBigEars you have the right idea and I admire you if you will follow through on what you say. Canada sold us down the river and proved to be a nation of cowards. Putin will not; Russians are not cowards. If you read the speech President Putin gave a few days ago, he is dead serious about reciprocity and so FATCA is dead in the water in Russia. Here is an excerpt:
And all this while Russia strived to engage in dialogue with our colleagues in the West. We are constantly proposing cooperation on all key issues; we want to strengthen our level of trust and for our relations to be equal, open and fair. But we saw no reciprocal steps.
So much hypocrisy in the West where Russia is concerned. Still wouldn’t want to live there any more than I’d want to live in the US.
I second what @northernstar said: Use cash as much as possible while we still can.
These political decisions are happening too fast. There’s Stevie doing an expensive photo-op in Ukraine. All we need now is for China to take a stand with Russia. China can easily call in the US debt and then where would we be. Just a thought! This is getting a little scary.
I am completely disgusted by Stephen Harper’s trip half way around the world to lend support to the Ukrainians in the face of alleged human rights abuses at the hands of Russia. What about the human rights abuses taking place against his own citizens in his own country at the hands of the United States of America?!
It’s always unnerving when the two largest and most ill-tempered kids in school have a disagreement. And Stephen Harper will side with whomever he assumes will win.

I do use cash (except cheques for utility bills). No INTERAC either. If I used MasterCard or Visa cards I would be cutting them up into little pieces right now in protest. Nuts, it’s like my banking. I don’t use the nation-wide banks so I can’t storm in and close my accounts in protest either. I’m going to stamp my feet and hope they feel those angry vibrations. What an immature game of sanction this, sanction that, the USA is playing. I wonder what to call it when hypocrisy reaches the heights that the USA has taken it to — uber chutzpah maybe?

Visa info for those interested. I’m seriously thinking about it. I’m NOT going to live the rest of my life in a country like Canada that has no respect for human rights and won’t enforce the Charter the way it is written. I’m afraid they may try to abolish the Charter or ignore it in the same way Obama ignores the constitution.
Still no word from Joe Arvay? Hmmmm I’ve lost my patience. The least he can do is announce his team is reviewing the loss of freedoms Canadians are experiencing. I never thought he was the right guy so I’m waiting for proof. How much time does he need to render an opinion that is not complicated? This should not be that complicated and if it is then Canada is not the kind of country that I can be proud of or have faith in. If I’m a second class citizen here and discriminated against then I will not be voting for anyone in this country until this situation is corrected.
It doesn’t look like Edward Snowden is going to comply with FATCA anytime soon!
at CCLA conference everyone said Joe Arvay is top!
ChearsBigEars,
Being thorough, researching and rendering a sound opinion on any matter takes time. Constitutional issues are complex, and anything associated with FATCA is complicated. Haste will not help in that regard.
Some years back (about 10 years ago) I asked the CEO of AMEX in Bangkok whether the US Treasury/IRS required them to divulge information and the answer was ‘yes’ because the IRS wanted to know which US Persons had an ‘overseas’ AMEX card to see if they also had a reported account. AMEX must comply. Also, per Edward Snowden we know that every transaction using a credit card (at least in the US) is recorded and reported.
Regarding Russia – while it may be tempting to move to Russia, the fact is that they are also tied (at least for now) to the USD, and what better than FATCA to put yet another ‘sanction’ in place (30% withholding) without even having to call it a sanction – just following existing law is what the US will say. As such, I would not bet Russia will not sign an IGA. Snowden may well just file his US tax return on his Russian earnings to keep that off the charge line in the ultimate criminal trial if/when he ever gets back to the USA.
GOLD, buy on weakness. Good example today. No one knows but average your purchases and don’t plan to sell it.
Russia is selling USD as quickly as possible. Looks like the day is coming soon where the international reserve currency may be the Renminbi. Hopefully the growing hatred of FATCA all over the world and the coming cold war (cyber war) with Russia will seal the fate of the USD and its tyranny
