I cannot watch that right now. I used to really link Cenk. Will watch later.
What mis-information !
I think that Cenk needs to be taxed by Turkey.
I commented and I’m going to invite Cenk to call me.
wow just wow….is he ever off base with his comments…..i could not watch the whole thing
I watched it. It’s a piece of shit, lazy-ass reporting job that is typical of the FATCA proppers. Normally I like the Turks but this was horseshit.
No mention of countries like Canada or France or the UK or New Zealand, etc but heavy emphasis on the Caymans and Switzerland, which is American shorthand for “rich tax evaders”.
I left a comment. I won’t be returning to defend it however because there is no point judging from the comments I saw already.
I littered my comment with facts and examples. Americans are allergic to facts when a handy false narrative serves better.
Humans are hopeless, hopeless, Minds are just too messy. A true Tower of Babel. Hrmph……
@Yogagirl, I liked Turks too but, I have seen them do this sort of shoddy work before on one other issue a few years ago. It’s sad for someone who fashions themselves as an alternative to the lying MSM.
I think the word went out to the veal pen bloggers and such to report on this with “this slant” see “NOTES” and so they have all fallen in line with this baloney without doing any homework.
Yes, his report is b.s. claiming everyone against FATCA=rich tax evader when the opposite is true. Most expats are NOT rich and certainly would not end up owing tax to the U.S. NO mention of any problems with FATCA, imperial over reach, violating the laws of other nations, harming low to middle income families with even ONE “U.S. person” in them. People not able to bank normally where they live, renew mortgages, save with a foreign spouse by the LAWS of the countries where they reside and on and on.
Facts? it doesn’t matter what the facts are if you can control the message enough to get enough people to believe what you are selling them. That’s the way politics is played in the U.S. today. DA is being slapped right in the face.
Americans dispense with facts when they want something and the rest of the world is standing in their way. Facts are inconvenient and might not sway others when fully presented.
ARGGGHHHHH! I would scream for real but who would care? Not America.
Every time I feel the tiniest bit bad about preparing to give up my USC when I take Canadian citizenship, I remember what lying, self-serving stone cold fucks most of them are when matters like FATCA come up. “My country right or wrong and especially when we can get our way even when we are wrong.”
@YogaGirl
I second that emotion!
@yogagirl ..exactly!! APPLAUSE!
And they have brought that upon themselves. Americans if you thought you were not universally loved before wait till this FATCA crap rains fire all over the world in full force. Nobody loves a bully.
Cenk is just another misguided socialist who thinks he’s entitled to more government handouts.
He should go back to Turkey so he can get a taste of Uncle Sam’s CBT, FATCA, FuBAR etc for a while. Then watch how fast Cenky old boy changes his tune.
@Sam, Cenk is not a socialist…and I don’t think he relies on government handouts.
He is totally wrong about this issue and completely being irresponsible with his so called reporting here.
Interesting background. Unfortunately, one of such diversity and soul-searching that it makes this ignorant tirade all the more egregious. Cenk should really research this topic 1000% more before spouting-off about it. Same thing goes for any so-called journalist or commentator.
That’s the beauty of the internet, isn’t it? No matter how stupid, ignorant, and wrong you are, you get to have your say. It’s pointless to even respond to idiots like that.
Cenk is a Progressive aka Socialist-light.
Cenk’s recent attack on expats is a reflection of his socialistic/progressive political beliefs, ie. expats are rich fat cats who drink champagne on the Riviera. Therefore the government has a duty to go after them, conficate their money and bring it back to the Homeland to spread it around. Meanwhile, Cenk and his cool progressive yuppie buds sit around drinking cappuccino lattes in Starbucks and philosophise about social justice and the entitlements they deserve.
Socialism and Progressivism are incompatible with limited government because they both embrace wealth redistribution via progressive taxation and/or government handouts. Progressive taxation is an obstacle to upward mobility. The harder a person works, the more he gets punished with higher tax brackets. Thus interfering with a person’s ability to work hard, save, invest and get ahead.
America was founded as a libertarian state based on the principle of limited government. The main problem with the US today is that the government is no longer limited — its completely out of control.
The mainstream Democrats embrace Socialism/Progressivism while mainstream Republicans embrace Fascism/Corporatism. Both of which are Totalitarian by nature and are now applied on a global scale.
FATCA is pure Financial Totalitarianism on a global scale.
As a Libertarian with a soft spot for the Greens, I have great difficulty finding goodness within any political party/movement that embraces Big Government, regardless of whether its Fascist/Corporatist or Socialist/Progressive. Either way, its big by nature and devours the freedom of individuals, including the freedom of its citizens abroad which is what is happening to American expats today.
Q: Why does the US government tax its citizens abroad?
A: Because it can.
It’s pretty simple. TYTs don’t fully understand the issue, see it as Homelanders, and their ignorance has made at least 27,500 misrepresentations today. I’m sure the next video will be branding people who renounce to avoid FATCA as traitors. Pretty predictable.
Just another channel on the Homelander TV network.
@ all
I too used to like Cenk… You what this is all about ..the REPUBLICANS!!!!
Any law the Republicans want to repeal that is Obama’s is a good law..
I sent him Victorias. http://thefranco-americanflophouse.blogspot.ca/
@All
I put this on the You tube. and said it was from Victoria’s blog
It is interesting to see just how far and how deep the meme “American abroad = rich tax evader” has sunk into the American mindset. Americans abroad – the au pairs, English teachers, translators, NGO workers, computer programmers, artists, writers, university professors, managers, musicians, and retirees – are rightfully a bit confused. Are these journalists and commenters really implying that the only Americans abroad are rich tax-evading champagne swillers and yacht owners? Please, homelanders, stop and think for a moment and use your common sense:
Since when do billionnaires watch other people’s children, teach English or grade undergraduate papers?
Allow me to point out the arrogance here. Homelanders seem to be saying that our diaspora (Americans abroad) is special and totally unlike any other developed country’s diaspora being composed entirely of A. criminals and B. the idle rich.
This is the left’s answer to Rush Limbaugh, but without Limbaugh’s class and intellect (yah…you know what I mean).
I’ll take everyone’s word for what the youtube contains. I simply don’t want to absorb too much toxic material right now. If anyone has Cenk Uygur’s e-mail address I’ll send him a piece of what remains of my little Canadian mind.
Em, couldn’t find a specific email but he has a Twitter account so if you do, you could message him there. However the TYT has a contact email for feedback: feedback@tytnetwork.com.
@ Yoga Girl
Thanks I don’t twitter but I’ll try the feedback link.
I don’t wish to discuss individual political belief systems as I believe it detracts from this issue and find that because we are a very diverse group it may be offensive to some people. Therefore I keep my other political beliefs to myself and would appreciate the same courtesy.
Thank you for your back grounder on why you believe as you do. I won’t post a similar response though I could. I don’t feel it’s appropriate here.
My post should have said @Sam Adams.
Thank you for posting this and letting us know about his stupidity. The unfortuante thing is that many people will trust and beleive what he has to say. Sad, very very sad.
