A triple play on the 13th. Way to go Brockers!
Thanks everyone!
I also just finished up the interview with CBC TV new’s with John Lancaster. That will be on CBC Toronto news at 6:00pm
Can I scream support ? YYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEAAAAAHHHHHHHH !
Awesome!
Thank you so much for speaking out for us, Gwen!
@Gwen
You may just end up becoming the voice of the Resistance.
Great interview Gwen! You came across very clear with your message.
Just called in. I will be the 62 year old person with the NY accent if they play it! Added more details about children of US persons, selective service, what if the Chinese and Indian governments want to do this and your spouse’s accounts are included!,
Thank you so much Gwen for not mincing words (throw us under the bus). Way to go! Between this podcast and calgary411’s interview I’m beginning to hyperventilate. I’ll bet bubblebustin with her boa constrictor is getting a breath in today too. We are all so grateful to see some serious CBC coverage with extra helpings of human interest included. This is how to appeal to the masses because they just don’t get CBT, RBT, FATCA and all that jazz. They do respond to true, heartfelt testimony though. You two Brockers gave it to ’em good.
the media silence is breaking. Nice.
@All
James Fitz-Morris just gave his report on FATCA on the CBC news. They will likely have it again on “The World at Six” which is accessible on the internet.
That’s internet radio.
Is this where we should be watching for the James Fitz-Morris report?
Thank you so much Gwen. Great interview. Let’s hope that Jim Flaherty hears it.
Bravo Gwen! Excellent interview!
@Em
That looks like the place. CBC radio keeps covering it every hour in BC, with the exception of this morning at 10:00, but the noon newscast was the only one that I heard the James Fitz-Morris report. It wasn’t a lengthy report. It sounds like it might be a lead-in to another more in depth one, but there was no mention of one. I guess if you can listen for the news every hour, you might catch him again, or during more in depth news coverage on The World at Six, where he might turn up also. Also, we can tune in to CBC Halifax 6:00 local time (2:00 in BC)! That’s a little more than a half hour from now.
I’m stunned! That was one fabulous interview. You hit all of the important points and clearly explained the dilemma faced by so called “US persons” in Canada.
Now even those unfamiliar or unaffected by FATCA can begin to understand the fundamental unfairness and injustice of it all. Not to mention the stupidity!
P.S. It’s my belief that your strategy of “flying under the radar” is your best option for now. We must all hope that our government will do the right thing and stand up for Canadian sovereignty. I’m optimistic they will.
Superb interview, well done! There are more interviews to come tomorrow from various CBC Radio programs, according to what I’m reading on my email grapevine. I’ve forwarded the interview link to Mulcair, Dewar and Rankin, no reply as yet but the Official Opposition are now aware of the interview and that another one on Ontario Morning tomorrow I think may point a finger at Flaherty. A little birdie tells me at least one Tory backbencher has been informed of both interviews, is sympathetic, and may raise this with him in a meeting soon.
As I suggested over on Sandbox, everyone please no matter what party you support or who your MP is, forward this interview link and also the CBC main story earlier today to your MP, cc to that MP’s party leader whoever that may be, and add your personal brief comments.
Let’s keep the pressure on the government and make any Canada-US IGA political poison for them.
BTW I love Gwen’s parting shot near the end of the interview at the Canadian Bankers Association. I can hardly wait for their PR spin doctors to try to weasel and squirm out of that again … love it! Especially the reference to putting your money under a mattress, which I wish I had done more than twenty years ago instead of putting it into mutual funds that have gone south and never came back even yet. I’d be way ahead, and that’s entirely apart from FATCA. Don’t get me wound up on bankers and corporate executives and their salaries and bonuses in spite of hopeless financial performance for their customers. Any mud that sticks to their miserable faces is fine with me.
Two words that strike terror into the hearts of all bankers throughout the world:
Bank run.
CBA spokesman on Here and Now in Toronto basically just said “Unless you are foolish enough to use a US driver’s license as ID we won’t bug you.”
Nice work. Finally some pushback. Good for Canada! (Unfortunately I’m in the UK, and my spineless lapdog poodle govt rolled over and played dead for FATCA about on day two, so indecently keen were they to sign the first IGA.)
Hat trick. Nice job Gwen, very heartfelt. Very real.
OMG! Gwen, that was an awesome interview! You really got the message across! Thanks so much!
great job Gwen.
very well spoken from the heart and stuck to the facts about how it is going to effect millions of canadians!!
Yeah brave Gwen! Not easy to squeeze all the highlights in given the very short time given. Great heartfelt and clear message.
Thank you!
