72 signatures sent off to MP Ted Hsu, 62 from before and 10 from yesterday evening. Plus some people may be trotting around with the petition on their own and others needed time to think about it before signing – so there could be more.
Thanks for the link to the FATCA backgrounder, Voyons. Added to the FATCA and Canada list.

MP Ted Hsu has indicated to Blaze that he will be presenting the FATCA petition to parliament today (December 9th). If anyone can confirm that he did this, please post it here. Also I would love to know how many signatures were collected.
This may help, Em???

@ calgary411
I found these but there’s no mention of the FATCA petition. Maybe later. I’m probably jumping the gun (as usual).

The FATCA Q121 is in http://blog.tedhsu.ca/category/general/.
Perhaps we’ll see the Petition having been presented on tomorrow’s update of http://www.tedhsu.ca/services/petitions.html.
I’m waiting for the Answers to all of Q121 and Q127 (Scott Brison’s). Canadian Parliament FATCA Questions 121 and 127 – Oct 25,28 2013
The petition was indeed presented on December 9 by Mr. Hsu:
Mr. Ted Hsu (Kingston and the Islands, Lib.): previous intervention
Mr. Speaker, I rise today with a petition from Canadians from across the country. It is important for the government to know that this particular issue affects a large number of people.
The petition is with regard to the United States Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act . The United States government is demanding that Canadian banks provide confidential financial information to the IRS in the United States. This will be implemented through an intergovernmental agreement between the governments of the United States and Canada.
The petitioners are calling upon the Government of Canada to protect the privacy and rights, including the charter rights, of Canadians.
This can be found at http://www.parl.gc.ca/HousePublications/Publication.aspx?Language=E&Mode=1&Parl=41&Ses=2&DocId=6379548 If you go way down the page to petitions (not quite half way) and then you will find Mr. Hsu’s comments.
Thanks so much for updating us on this, Nancy!
Thanks to everyone who signed the MP Ted Hsu Petition regarding FATCA. Now, we must keep the pressure on our Canadian government representatives!
easy to see how this gets lost in the shuffle.
Note to all of those who still have petitions or would like to circulate it:
Mr. Hsu will present the petition whenever he has at least 25 valid signatures. He can do it as often as he has them. The real cut-off date becomes when the government either announces it has signed an agreement with the US or that it has decided not to and either leaves the banks to their own devious devises or tells them to obey Canadian law and not American law.
@ Nancy Dunlop
Thank you for finding that for us and if you are peeking in, Dr. Hsu, thank you for presenting the petition for us. You are a good man and we appreciate you helping to get our voice heard in parliament regarding FATCA.
Thank you for the link and comments Nancy.

Petition Update
Sent on December 10, 2013
Dear Dr. Hsu,
Thank you for presenting the FATCA petition yesterday.
Here is a comment from the Isaac Brock Society thread on the FATCA petition:
“If you are peeking in, Dr. Hsu, thank you for presenting the petition for us. You are a good man and we appreciate you helping to get our voice heard in parliament regarding FATCA.” Signed Em. (Few feel free to use their name if they have any connection, however tenuous, to the US due to fear of the US and now Canada and its banks.)
Would it be possible to know how many valid signatures you had on the petition?
Thank you once again,
Nancy Dunlop
Received on January 23, 2014
Dear Nancy,
Thank you for your email to MP Ted Hsu and for your interest in the FATCA petition.
We have received several petitions in opposition to FATCA, all identical to the one presented on December 9 and all from concerned citizens from across the country. I am therefore unable to give you the exact number of signatures from December 9, however I can say that we have had hundreds of signatories all together.
We have three new petitions ready for Mr. Hsu to present when Parliament resumes next week. We also have four more petitions that were just submitted to the Clerk for certification, and which we hope to have Mr. Hsu present in the coming weeks. Each petition has a minimum of 25 signatures.
Please be assured that MP Ted Hsu will continue to speak on this issue in the House of Commons and demand action from the government.
Thank you again for writing,

Thank you, Nancy, for keeping this group informed. We appreciate every update and are pleased that MP Ted Hsu will continue to speak on the issue of FATCA, demanding action from the government.
@calgary411
Just talked to my MP and he suggested to keep the petitions coming as the issue needs floor time discussion and petitions are a way of getting that time. Do we need a new version now that the Conservatives have already agreed to the IGA? How quickly can we do this?
Thank you for passing this along, Kathy.
Can I ask your MP and what party he/she represents? I will put a post up to see what discussion / action your suggestion can garner.
@calgary411. Again, a thank you for hanging out here at IBS helping make it work. A thank you for publicly and at personal risk with great courage, making yourself known and adding a real face to the horror of FATCA. Someone needed to come out of the “closet” and you did, thank you.
My prayers for your son and your family and may you be blessed with the Lords blessings and gifts.
George,
Thank you for such kind words. I want you to know how much your well-thought out and researched comments mean to me and to others here at Isaac Brock. It’s really such an amazing experience, this part of it — the coming together of US Persons wherever we may be outside the “homeland”.
Last night I talked to another Calgarian who recently learned of this. BOTH he and his wife were born in the US to Canadian parents who returned to live their lives in Canada. As two US citizen parents their children born in Canada, raised in Canada, etc, their children are automatically deemed US citizens.
And the beat goes on.
Thanks again, George!! You’ve given me a lot of strength.
