@swisspinoy this is well-done.
Now for those who don’t understand German or French:this needs a good English translation.
Doesn’t this kind of video alienate German speakers? I have the impression that the FATCA referendum is being advertised almost exclusively to French speakers. Given the linguistic composition of Switzerland, I don’t think that’s a good idea.
Tina Turner – We Don’t Need Another Hero
Out of the [financial] ruins, out from the [banking] wreckage
Can’t [sign the IGA and] make the same mistake this time
We are the children, the last generation [of Americans abroad]
We are the ones they left behind
And I wonder when we are ever gonna change it [to another citizenship]
Living under the fear [of penalties] till nothing else remains
We don’t need another [IGA] hero
We don’t need to know the [restrictions that force our] way [back] home
All we want is life beyond the [US] thunderdome
Looking for something we can rely on
There’s got to be something better [than FATCA] out there
Love and compassion, their day is coming
All else are castles built in the air
And I wonder when we are ever gonna change it [to another citizenship]
Living under the fear [of penalties] till nothing else remains
All the [accidental American] children say
We don’t need another [IGA] hero
We don’t need to know the [restrictions that force our] way [back] home
All we want is life beyond the [US] thunderdome
So what do we do with our lives?
We leave only a mark
Will our story shine like a life
Or end in the dark? Is it all or nothing?

I have to say, that using this well known movie clip of Hitler’s rage to highlight a different issue is getting old. It was cute the first time I saw one, years ago, but now I find them less interesting, more alienating and not effective for the mission. Just my personal opinion, which admittedly has evolved. I know others might disagree. Shadow Raider makes a good point by questioning if this is effective in reaching a German speaking audience that you want on board.
My past comment not withstanding, I see that the same Hitler video is getting used against ObamaCare. I guess it resonates with those who oppose any issue. Now it is ObamaCare. Next week it will be something else. I just wonder how effective it is at reaching those that either love it or are borderline, i.e., they don’t have an opinion. As many of these types of videos that are now out there now, on a wide spectrum of subjects, I wonder if anyone has ever done any research to measure their effectiveness.
As I understand it so far, the referendum is a French-speaking effort. They will be producing more videos. So far,the referendum has no support from any of the national parties.
Another appropriate revision to song lyrics for the FATCA . Where are some good protest songs for this? Folk singers who protested in the past seem to be censored these days. Someone like Steve Earle; someone like early Joan Baez and early Bob Dylan; so many who made a difference at one time. (And, I likely live in the past.)
Thanks, Shadow Raider.

We’ve learned here from past activity, this turns some people off and some people away from Isaac Brock, no matter the relevance.
@Just Me For me the video was new.
@SwissPinoy Was the referendum mentioned beyond the French Cantons in Switzerland? After you posted the French Swiss newspaper article I searched Neue Zürcher Zeitung (online)where I didn’t see a mention of the Referendum. But maybe later the idea became known in other parts of Switzerland? What have you seen there?
@ J.N. I understand. I remember the first one I saw, and I did get a chuckle, but over time, they have wore thin for me. I suppose we all get jaded to repetitiveness or overuse. That said, I have the choice to watch it or not, and I think that ones opposition to a particular issue or cause guides ones willingness to watch or enjoy the satire.
SwissPinoy –
Calgary411 is vague and gentle. Earlier use of this video at Brock provoked a dysfunctional splittist snit, which caused a coterie of polite Canadians to shuffle off to another sandbox. Lately those players have been sneaking back. I think that happened before your time. The core issue was freedom of expression. Petros washed his hands rather than deep-six Brock. From your previous comments, I know you can smell Zionism from a mile away. That’s what it was.
@ Just Me
I agree; the re-titled video scene from “Downfall” is stale. Comparisons to Hitler and Nazis are often cheap and weak arguments, as in: “My teachers are Nazi’s” or “My boss is a little Hitler”.
However, some foreign governments’ boot-licking statements of IGA acquiesce remind me of another personality from that era.
The FATCA IGA statements by NZ and Swedish bureaucrats, and also how France’s Finance Minister simply shrugged off Treasury’s inability to sign a one-sided IGA of their own making, evoke the shade of Neville Chamberlain.
On 30 September 1938, British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain returned from negotiations with the Germans and became one of history’s most famous examples of folly and poor judgment:
“My good friends, for the second time in our history, a British Prime Minister has returned from Germany bringing peace with honour. I believe it is peace for our time. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Go home and get a nice quiet sleep.”
For what the video’s worth, no movement is complete without one these days. I think most people recognize it for what it is – a parody that leaves the viewer to compare the message to Hitler’s. Whether you think its in good taste, hackneyed or not, it’s an expression of free speech, and is only as interesting as its script.
should have written “whether you think it’s in bad taste…”
@J.N., it has been mentioned in the links that Just Me posted, and maybe a few more. The referendum is a big thing in French Switzerland, but the organizers have little or no contact or connections with the German area. They had asked me if I could be the representative for my canton, but I haven’t heard from them since. I’m happy to support the referendum as much as I can, but I’m not a good representative. I’m a computer geek with limited social connections, limited political involvement and my German isn’t that great. I can’t even translate the video without working my way through a translator and my time is restricted since my wife is about to give birth. Hopefully, they found someone with more influence than me.
@usxcanada, I was around then and I defended the earlier use of this video since many Zionists frequently use Nazi comparisons against the political opposition. Just a week or so ago, a Zionist attacked me with a Nazi comparison since I criticized his/her generalizations against Arab Semites. Of course, there are some good people who oppose Nazi comparisons regardless of who uses such against whom, and I respect their interests and actions. My main concern with this one is that it could damage the referendum and I posted it so that this can be discussed. Maybe someone can help and support the French Swiss FATCA opponents in the best manner possible.
I wish your wife(and you) an easy birth.I’ve forwarded your reply to my Zürich companion who is very supportive of me with all this indecent tax abuse of the US towards us citizens abroad. He is also a computer “geek”(I’ve never heard this expression but I presume it suits him).Maybe he has some connections?

“New European rules aimed at curbing questionable transfers of data from EU countries to the US are being finalised in Brussels in the first concrete reaction to the Edward Snowden disclosures on US and British mass surveillance of digital communications.
Regulations on European data protection standards are expected to pass the European parliament committee stage on Monday after the various political groupings agreed on a new compromise draft following two years of gridlock on the issue.
The draft would make it harder for the big US internet servers and social media providers to transfer European data to third countries, subject them to EU law rather than secret American court orders, and authorise swingeing fines possibly running into the billions for the first time for not complying with the new rules………..
……..The new rules, if agreed, would ban the transfer of data unless based on EU law or under a new transatlantic pact with the Americans complying with EU law.
“Without any concrete agreement there would be no data processing by telecommunications and internet companies allowed,” says a summary of the proposed new regime.
Such bans were foreseen in initial wording two years ago but were dropped under the pressure of intense lobbying from Washington. The proposed ban has been revived directly as a result of the uproar over operations by the US’s National Security Agency (NSA).”
EU Brockers and Green Party members – Note that the contact described as being responsible for steering the data protection regulation through the parliament” is Jan Philipp Albrecht, a German Greens MEP. It may be that he will understand how our concerns about our enhanced vulnerability to hackers, identity theft and wholesale data theft of our banking and personal information as facilitated under FATCA, as well as the privacy rights conflicts posed by FATCA itself fit into this initiative.

I see that the EU is set to prevent transfers of some types of data to the US
