FATCA Fact Sheet Anti-FATCA Slogans Protest Press Release
AtticusinCanada has received an official permit to protest on Parliament Hill Oct. 16, 2013, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.! We will meet at 9 a.m. in front of Parliament Hill and proceed to the Hill itself once we have a reasonably sized group. Families and even children are welcome if you feel they are old enough! We ask that everyone bring their own sign. A good idea would be to email AtticusinCanada with the slogans you would like to use, so we have as few duplicates as possible.

The mini-protest in Ottawa on Sept 9, 2013, garnered some well needed media attention. Just imagine how much we could achieve if more Brockers joined forces for a larger protest at parliament hill this fall!
Many of us believe that a formal announcement of an IGA for FATCA is just around the corner. It’s time to ramp up with the push back. The letter writing and emailing to our elected representatives has been great, and some illuminating articles have been written by Lynne and Victoria, but we need to do more.
Atticusincanada and I would like to be the drivers towards organizing a larger protest, but first we need to gather enough participants. For those Brockers who can commit to coming to Ottawa for a day, and would like to join us, please email Atticusincanada at atticusincanada@gmail.com.
Thank you Lynne! That’s wonderful. Also, folks I am gathering up email addresses of media contacts and could use some help with this. If anyone has any contact info for media please send me the email address. I wanted to send out media release for the protest asap but, gathering up the amount of email contacts I need has been a challenge. These days those type of lists are sold by PR firms unless you go and one by one start looking them up yourself which is a bit of a hassle for me this week. I have SOME but could use more.

Posted on another thread – some ideas for placards and drama.
Hello all,
Is there any chance I could get a lift to the demonstration Oct 16? I live near Fisher and Meadowlands. I can easily get myself there by bus, but I don’t think I will be bringing a sign in that event.
Thanks
Andrew
Hi Andrew, I will check around. My spouse and I are going to come to Ottawa the night before and will probably be able to pick you up but, we are staying downtown. I think others are coming from your direction. Email me @ Atticus in canada @ gmail dot com. I’ll work something out for you. Btw, I brought my sign last time with me down on the train to Ottawa rolled up. Yes, people looked at it but, oh well!
Don’t worry, we’ll get you there somehow! I still have to find someone to watch my dog!
Tricia Moon (nobledreamer) just sent out what looks like almost 100 tweets about the Oct. 16th protest. It’s a joint press release from IBS and Maple Sandbox. One tweet was to Diane Francis — sweet!
Thanks so much Noble Dreamer!! You are amazing!!
Thanks for reporting Tricia’s tweets. I especially like that Diane Francis was not left out. Good work, nobledreamer!

@NorthShrike,
I am taking the bus with signs in tow. It beats finding parking downtown, plus maybe I’ll get asked some questions about FATCA and can pass out some handouts on the bus ride. 🙂
I found an interesting expat blog in Buenos Aries under the topic:
http://baexpats.org/topic/27705-why-i-gave-up-my-american-passport-fatca/
I suggested their participants may want to join the “we-are-not-a-myth” campaign via Tumblr.
@Em, Atticus & Calgary
Thanks!
@Andrew, I think taking the bus will be fine. Roll up your sign loosely and tie a string round it as I did when I brought mine on the train. If you aren’t comfortable with that then email me at atticus in canada at gmail dot com and I will work something out for you.
We have our hotel booked and will be in the night before. We’re either going to walk from the hotel or cab it up there even though it isn’t far I sometimes have trouble walking a bit of a distance. People if you are going there for 9 a.m. head towards the flame and wait there until we have a group together. The Hill is rather a large area so I think if the plan is to gather by the flame first then we will all be able to easily find one another.
Keep in mind there are going to be other protests up there that day and several will be very large. Go to the Flame and you’ll see the others with anti FATCA signs! 9 a.m.
As Oct 16 is quickly approaching, I would strongly urge anyone who is on the fence as to whether or not to participate in the Ottawa protest, to join us! So far, the number of people who have committed to coming is rather small (under 10 I believe). Blaze, Atticus and others have worked hard on the press release and gathering media contacts, so it is important to have a good showing this Wednesday.
Let’s not let this opportunity go to waste! Go Brockers Go!
I’ll be there.
@All, I will be in and out today getting ready to head to Ottawa for tomorrow’s protest.
Remember we are meeting at the flame area of Parliament Hill at 9 a.m. I will be there a few minutes early so you are sure to see the anti FATCA signs.
It is supposed to rain but, do not let that stop you. I am coming in my rain gear and today I’m going to try and get some clear laminate sheets at Staples for my signs. See you there!
@ Brockers in Canada-wishing you all GOOD LUCK tomorrow 16 Oct-our thoughts are with you.
@AtticusinCanada
Indelible marker on coroplast is really good for signs to us in the rain, but you can’t roll them up for transport unfortunately.
I got the coroplast, used indelible marker and laminated with that roll out one sided sticky stuff. You could use clear tape too.
I am not worried about being able to roll up and we’re walking up from the hotel. Hopefully people will stop us on the way up and ask me what this is all about.
Go get ’em Atticus!
Atticus is armed and dangerous, in the best of ways — with coroplast sign and rain gear. 🙂 Good luck tomorrow to everyone on the hill. Hope someone will be able to post a few photos afterwards and I know someone will post a description of the event. Looking forward to that.
@ All
While Atticus, WhiteKat and others are doing their part in the anti-FATCA battle on Parliament Hill we can keep our comments coming. The LA Times article is being swarmed with great comments but the Tax-News article (“FATCA Reality Check” by Lynne and Victoria) is a tad short. In the past day or so they made it possible to leave comments there so let’s not miss the opportunity to get our viewpoint represented at a “Global Tax News” site.
@All
I am wishing all you Brockers going to the protest a successful, warm and dry gathering. I wrote Elizabeth May and other politicians today re the article @Just Me put on the post…Elizabeth responded right away and I wrote back and thanked her and asked her to stop and talk to you all there while you are protesting. see the post of what I wrote and what she wrote back to me. http://isaacbrocksociety.ca/2013/06/27/hr-2299-calls-for-withdrawal-of-fatca-iga-reciprocity-tool-datca-lite/comment-page-3/#comment-582672
Good Luck to all the Brockers! Many of us will be there in spirit. I’ve written letters to all four party leaders urging them to take note of this protest. I’m sure it won’t be the last.
Good luck all Brockers on Parliament Hill. Wish I could have gone too. May the force be with you!
Thank you. We are all indebted to you intrepid souls for all your work and your bravery.
