FATCA Fact Sheet Anti-FATCA Slogans Protest Press Release
AtticusinCanada has received an official permit to protest on Parliament Hill Oct. 16, 2013, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.! We will meet at 9 a.m. in front of Parliament Hill and proceed to the Hill itself once we have a reasonably sized group. Families and even children are welcome if you feel they are old enough! We ask that everyone bring their own sign. A good idea would be to email AtticusinCanada with the slogans you would like to use, so we have as few duplicates as possible.

The mini-protest in Ottawa on Sept 9, 2013, garnered some well needed media attention. Just imagine how much we could achieve if more Brockers joined forces for a larger protest at parliament hill this fall!
Many of us believe that a formal announcement of an IGA for FATCA is just around the corner. It’s time to ramp up with the push back. The letter writing and emailing to our elected representatives has been great, and some illuminating articles have been written by Lynne and Victoria, but we need to do more.
Atticusincanada and I would like to be the drivers towards organizing a larger protest, but first we need to gather enough participants. For those Brockers who can commit to coming to Ottawa for a day, and would like to join us, please email Atticusincanada at atticusincanada@gmail.com.
I don’t know Em but, that is a U.S. based website if I’m correct? I’m not arguing with anymore U.S. based website commenters. They do NOT know what they are talking about and trying to educate them is a waste of time. I care about Canadians and others in this world swept up in this especially in countries that do not have an IGA yet so maybe others will start to push back. People in the U.S. largely think CBT is a given and their right to do and nothing you ever say to them seems to crack that belief system.
@em
The $50k limit is for resident USP’s with foreign bank accounts. You are correct that it’s $200k non-residents.
The banks will search all bank accounts electronically over $50k, manually over $1m, I believe. USD’s of course.
@ bubblebustin
You are right about the bank searches but the point I was making is that a non-resident US person would not have to worry about a $10K 8938 non-filing fine if he/she is under the $200K limit (non-joint) and $400K limit (joint). (That’s last day of the year, higher limits for any time during the year.) I really hate seeing misleading statements like Mr. Copy-Paste-Stack-Sucker puts out.

Oh my, that tumbler thing. I hope Mr. Em and I aren’t going to be the only mug shots up there. We look like a really bad version of the Blues Brothers. Could you add the how to and the tumbler link in the “It’s Time For” post to encourage some other Brockers to participate? I like the “I am not a myth” theme because it prompts the question “What do you mean by that?” which presents the opportunity to discuss and debunk the Stack-O-Lies propaganda. Hope you’re feeling better today. We need you in optimum fighting shape by the 16th. And, thanks for doing the Takeaway interview. You sounded so calm, cool and collected.
All anyone needs to do is to take a photo of themselves with some sort of small sign that says “I Am Not a Myth” and email it to me. I will put it up on Tumbler. Alternatively, if you have a Tumbler account you can post the photo and I can reblog your photo from your Tumbler page if you give me the url for it.

We have three now.
@Em, I blame hubby. He was sick for two weeks and I avoided it taking vitamins and Cold FX but, I guess it’s just my turn. I’m going to hibernate for the rest of this week because YES I want to be in tip top shape for the 16th!!
Re “I am not a myth” photos.
The reference of course is to the Robert Stack Treasury Department note. However, will it be understood by those unfamiliar to that document? What about “I am not a tax cheat”? or similar? We all share the same objective; the question is how to best communicate it.
How about something like this on the FATCA Fact sheet flip side for anyone asking about the “Myth”? I hope PJM doesn’t mind donating his thoughts to the cause, and that I’ve done them justice here. I’ve also limited the myths to those that effect individuals vs banks for the protest.
“In a news release where truth is myth and myth is truth, the US Government disputes any claims that FATCA is causing Americans to become financial “outcasts” in other countries, and argues that the record breaking surge in US renunciations is not due to the “liabilities and burdens created by FATCA” :
TRUTH: It is well known that US citizens, resident in a number of countries are being denied banking and investment services. While turning US account holders away might not completely enable an FFI to avoid FATCA, it will substantially reduce the compliance burdens and costs. This issue has been well documented in various articles in the media and by organizations such as American Citizens Abroad.
US Citizens abroad must file Form 8938 as a result of FATCA. This filing essentially requires US Citizens abroad to register their assets with the IRS unless assets are held in the US. In most cases their assets are held in the country of residence. Not only is this a new requirement imposed on US Citizens abroad, as a result of FATCA, but it is also an intrusion that Treasury and Congress should know that homeland citizens and residents would not tolerate being imposed on them for their assets in the country of residence (i.e., the U.S.).
In addition, it is well know and has been the subject of recent media coverage that there is a substantial increase in expatriations since FATCA came into existence. In 2013, the trend is accelerating.
There’s nothing mythical about effect FATCA’s exterritorial overreach and the burden it will place on every citizen and every nation in the world. STOP FATCA NOW!
@ northshrike
Please not “I am not a tax cheat”. We really want to take tax cheat out of the lexicon. It just reminds me too much of Richard Nixon and “I am not a crook”.
@ bubblebustin
I like it! 🙂 Just noticed: “about effect FATCA’s” should be “about the effect of FATCA’s”. Well done!
Thank you, Em, and noticing the error. It should have the header:
I AM NOT A MYTH
@admin could I get AtticusinCanada’e e-mail address or could you please provide me so I can send a photo?
No problem. I can put it here as she’s posted it earlier on the thread, atticusincanada@gmail.com.
Hi guys, please send to me as a photo file such as jpg. png ect.
Hi everyone, I’m just getting this going. I do want to list some things in the side bar and insert further explanations. Right now I’m working on getting a few photos up and working on the format of the page.

I just became aware of this site — love its name. Does anyone know who is behind it? Anyway it looks like after a long pause it is coming out swinging …

I’ve an explanation of why “I Am Not A Myth” is the header in the side bar of the Tumbler site and a FATCA cross out symbol that goes beside every post.
@Em, I don’t know whose behind that site, I’ve never seen it before either!
@AtticusinCanada
It might be USCitizenAbroad but whoever it is — THANK YOU!
I just followed them to keep up with posts and yes THANK YOU!
Here’s an article from The Money Guide on the protest

Nice work, Lynne.
So proud of our two moms in tennis shoes. I’ll be with you in spirit. Will you be taking the Tumbler photos with you?
Speaking of Tumbler photos — @ All — MORE PLEASE! Just e-mail them to atticusincanada@gmail.com. Atticus has offered to take Mr. Em and I with her (in photo spirit) to Ottawa. It’s the next best thing to being there. Thank you, again, Atticus.
Oops, I made an error on my email address and my gravatar turned from purple to green. 🙂
Yes, more photos please for Portrait Protest!
As many as possible will help us to convince our own governments and US Treasury we are not myths.
The Portrait Protest is not Canadian only. We hope people from around the world will participate.
Also, here is an article Victoria and I had published at OpEd news today.
FATCA: We Are Not Myths.
http://www.opednews.com/articles/1/FATCA-We-Are-Not-Myths-by-Lynne-Swanson-and-Congress_Privacy_Privacy_Privacy-131006-69.html
When you read the article, you may want to note there are three pages and you have to click on 2 and 3 to go to those pages. When I first saw it, I thought the editor had dramatically slashed our article until I went further.
Feel free to take my son and I (by photo) with you too, atticus.
Before Lynne blazed across the border to visit her elderly Mom she got another article published in The Money Guide. You won’t want to miss this one, Brockers. Thank you Lynne, Ruth and Kathleen.
