Diane Francis’ plan to merge Canada and US has many problems http://t.co/yUb5wjqur4 – But no more #FATCA #FBAR #PFIC #CFC #Foreigntrusts

What do you think? Is Diane Francis on the right track?
A FATCA IGA is an “unofficial surrender” of Canada’s sovereignty to the United States. Perhaps Diane is right. Perhaps it is smarter to “officially surrender” to the United States. In this event there would be good news and bad news.
The good news would be that Canada would no longer be considered to be a foreign country.
The bad news would be that Canada would no longer be considered to be a foreign country.
Do you prefer the good news or the bad news?
More ‘crossborder integration’ and possibilities for those ‘unintended consequences’ due to conflicts in laws, policy and philosophy between the US and Canada. Problem solved – just do what the US says:

Lets face it, the US is not going to follow Canada. In this and any other dances, only the US is allowed to lead.
I just had my own “brain fart” while tapping a reply to another thread.
We ought to suggest whoever is marketing Diane Francis’ book that the bookstores all be asked to broadcast The Guess Who’s “American Woman” on an endless loop next to the table where all the unsold copies are stacked.
If ever that song was pre-destined and appropriate to a specific woman, it’s for Diane Francis.
Bye bye, Diane. You’re no good for us, we’re no good for you, ….
“Writer’s idea that Canada and U.S. should merge likely DOA”
Francis’s colleague at the Post, Jonathan Kay, says this of her proposal that would allow only Canadians to continue to receive universal health care:
“The notion that U.S.-born citizens would tolerate living in a society in which they have fewer government-given rights than their Canadian-born neighbours is just one of the many eyebrow-raising assumptions contained in this book,” Kay observed.”

http://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/journalist-proposed-us-canada-merger-214025749.html – Oh, look, the “carpetbagger” is trying to defend her position. Diane, journalist though she may be, has not yet realized in the face of all the Twitter-storm that her position is indefensible to Canadians.
