Victoria and Blaze ask in the article: How did the “simple premise” of “cracking down on illegal tax evasion and closing loopholes” become an attack on financial lives and personal integrity of millions of people living outside United States, their banks and laws and constitutions of their countries of residence?”
DC is “an organism that lives on or in an organism of another species, known as the host, from the body of which it obtains nutriment”, and is quickly becoming “an organism that grows, feeds, and is sheltered on or in a different organism while contributing nothing to the survival of its host”, both of which define a parasite.
@bubblebustin
And if you like good parasite stories, here is a GREAT oldie from RadioLab that just replayed recently on KUOW

@bubblebustin,
So I guess you heard that although I looked for a double rainbow (I live in south Ottawa), I didn’t see one. It was there though! I live surrounded by woods, so could not have seen it. Pacifica777 saw it coming out from work in downtown(north) Ottawa that afternoon.
Cool eh?
@Just Me
That Schistosome parasite looks a little bit like Anthony Weiner in his sext message.
@WhiteKat
Rainbows are much nicer than parasites, especially the pot of gold part.
and here is another reminder of What DC is all about. I have posted it before, but since we are talking about parasites, this really shows what these creatures in DC are…
Take the Money and Run for Office.
Alas no rainbows here in Seattle. On the contrary it’s cloudy and grey. But on the last sunny day this week I did a tour of the neighborhood gardens here and put some pictures up this morning. I offer them to you as a chance of pace – in the midst of all this madness, never forget to stop and admire the roses, hortensias, day lilies. I am particularly fond of the garden with the chessboard – what an incredible idea.

It seems the Simple Premise article awoke at least one person in US to our plight.
Although the author did not credit us or The Hill in her article, it is clear we were the source of some of her information.

In fact, the Simple Premise article may be what awakened the author to the “ridiculousness” of FATCA. It seems she has just become aware of the “US person” rule
She reports, as did we, that the King of Thailand, Mayor of London England and Premier of New Brunswick are all “US persons”
She also lists several of the facts included in our article.
I agree with most of what she wrote. However, these statements give me grave cause for concern: “Before all the FATCA nonsense takes full hold in 2015, think about researching some safe-havens. Look at globalizing your assets in various stores of wealth.”
That is exactly what got us into this mess. We have been caught up in the mess of residents in US who are trying to evade taxes. We are not doing that. We pay taxes where we live, work, and earn an income.
I have posted a comment on her blog. It is awaiting moderation.
@blaze
The author is still operating within a fog, says Kelly Diamond, Publisher:
“I honestly thought FATCA was only meant for American CITIZENS. Turns out it’s meant for “U.S. Persons” when she should be saying “I honestly thought FATCA was only meant for US residents.” Like so many others seems to be confused about a citizen’s status when they leave the US.
I see 30 year IRS vet, Steven Mopsick has now blogged about Victoria’s and Lynne’s article in The Hill. Nicely done.

@all
I sent a comment on another new page but not sure what one. It was around July 30th … I wrote to Dr. Ann Cavoukian who is the head of the Canada Office of Privacy Commisson.. I asked her opinion of FATCA and privacy issues. here s what she responded to day to me through an assistant.
I wrote:
I read your interview on http://www.singularityweblog.com/ann-cavoukian-privacy-by-design/
Could you give me your opinion on the effects of FATCA on Canadians who are “American Persons.” ..
In 2014 this American law will have all the world banks give to the IRS all those designated as “American persons all their personal information and what is in their banks accounts.

I would be very interested to your opinion on this in privacy terms..
And this this is the response…better than the politicians I wrote to. I hope those of you on IBS who are much more knowledgeable of FATCA will contact her office. I can’t print the whole thing he wrote as there is a privacy footnote. 🙁 But it does sound like she is very interested.
Thank you for email. Commissioner Cavoukian asked that I respond on her behalf.
The Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act (FATCA) raises concerns with respect to the privacy of U.S. persons living in Canada. As these matters fall within the purview of the Federal Privacy Commissioner, you may wish to contact her office to further discuss the privacy implications of FATCA.
Sincerely,
