RT @politicalpointsAfter term ends, US ambassador to Canada Jacobson to join BMO ctvnews.ca/business/after… – Advising 70 year old grandmas!
— U.S. Citizen Abroad (@USCitizenAbroad) May 21, 2013
This is an incredible story. Ambassador Jacobson is best known for his amazing “70 year old Grandmas” speech in Ottawa on October 18, 2011.
“When I read all of this I was concerned. So last week I called the Commissioner of the United States Internal Revenue Service to see what we could do. I explained the problem to him.
The result is that both he and I are sympathetic to the concerns. We are going to work together to see if we can’t find a way to accommodate grandma — and others — here in Canada. But we have to figure out a way to do it without letting the person who is trying to evade taxes in the Cayman Islands off the hook.
My message on this one is to sit tight. We are not unreasonable. We are not unsympathetic. We are not irresponsible.”
David Jacobson – U.S. Ambassador to Canada – October 18, 2011
Does this suggest a coziness between the U.S. government and the Canadian banks at the beginning of the U.S. attempt to impose FATCA on the world. You know, to get the world to sing in perfect harmony?
Is there any impropriety here?
Badger, yes please insert head in sand like the rest of these PC suicides.
@badger,
That’s what I just said in an email offline. “Here we go again!” It’s not on topic and a needless distraction, my opinion.

I don’t think Stan has had his OMG moment. At least I haven’t read any indication that he has.
I know we are not supposed to censor anyone but anti-semitic comments are offensive. We have 2 choices. Remove them or ignore them.
When I offend, it is out of frustration. When you, 2nd person plural the people expressing themselves in this little debate, offend it is out of ignorance. If I can educate you, both problems will have been addressed.
And again, the original post was about Canadians being harmed by a law sponsored by 3 US lawmakers who have the surface appearance of being liberal. This is exactly the kind of nonsensical juxtapositoning of values/actions/words that will confuse you if you don’t look for root causes.
Some of my relatives were killed in the Holocaust, and I draw the line in the sand on the use of language which conflaits religions, of any sort, with other motives or actions.
I prefer to speak against specific policies, rather than politicians. In this regard, some of the other discussion on this site, from time to time, is also of concern to me.
Enough said.
@bubblebustin, probably not worth puzzling over. Dialogue is not going to help, and the OMG moment may never arrive.
@The Animal,
Stan Hudson is not ConfH, as much as he sounds it. His IP address is in Canada.
I’m surprised, nobledreamer, because his views sound suspiciously similar. And I don’t take well to insults. You are the one drinking the Kool-Aid, Stan(k). Now shut up and let the big kids talk if you don’t have anything important other than anti-Semitic comments to say.
And frankly Stan(k)…I’m not interested in your “reasonings”. When those so-called “senators” decided of their own accord to stick their hands in my family’s pockets, that’s when I declared WAR. They don’t have a bloody right to my family’s money. The Canadian Government does, because we live here, we utilize resources here. I really don’t give a flying rat’s patootie what YOU think the USA has given Canada or as you called it, a “two bit FirstNation-apartheid country”. If you like the United States so bloody much. MTFB!!! (I’ll leave you to puzzle out those letters).
@nobledreamer
“Stan Hudson is not ConfH, as much as he sounds it. His IP address is in Canada.”
That’s hilarious, given that his first post here was a rant about how the USA didn’t need Canada. Clearly his goal is just to offend as many peaople as he can, regardless of how mindless his arguments are. That’s the last I’ll have to say about this person.
@stan hudson, I’ve spent over 10 years heavily criticizing Israel in various forums and have been attacked and threatened for doing so in just about every verbal means possible. There were times where I was the only critical voice left speaking, with all other opposition having been silenced. Frequently, major efforts were made to deny my US citizenship, given that I was often the only American expressing criticism, and to silence me by attacking Switzerland. Interestingly, the main focus of FATCA has been to attack Americans in Switzerland by attacking the Swiss government and many behind FATCA do seem to have strong ties to Israel. Thus, I cannot deny that I did indeed wonder if this was not all about me!
So, if I had made notes all the events which took place over the past 10 years, I could easily design a convincible conspiracy theory claiming that that the main purpose of FATCA is to silence my criticism of Israel. In fact, it has indeed achieved just that, to a certain extent. FATCA has distracted me and I’ve been focusing my interests in other areas and I am now no longer a US citizen.
However, I find much of this to be just a coincidence and don’t make much of it. FATCA is likely being driven mostly by the growing national debt, driving the interest in destroying banking secrecy in Switzerland, among other places, in order to collect revenue anywhere possible. US national debt is now nearing 17 trillion!
Does Jacobson’s appointment mean that the NorthAmerican Union is a done deal??
@ SwissPinoy — Thank you. As you know, not much more can be said — especially in Canada.
@ banany — The secret negotiations for the NAU continue. It is all corporate driven and Jacobson is definitely heading into the corporate arena (it’s that magical, mystical revolving door in action) so it’s anyone’s guess how much difference his presence will make towards what I truly hope is NOT a done deal.
