This note concerns authors and editors of this blog. Regular readers and those who only make comments may ignore this post.
Our web hosting service has put in an extra pre-screen for logging in to the blog (authors and editors). It instructs that one must use the username and password on the pre-screen. The user name was completely visible on my screen, but password was not:
password: web…”
I called our web hosting service and the technician informed me that the full password is:
webnames
Once you get enter the correct username and password, you will get to the regular author login for the blog and there you must use your own regular username and password.
This is an additional security measure to prevent a botnet from accessing the login page. They say that botnets will not read the message which is visible on screen regarding the username and password, and so this additional security feature prevents them from accessing the login page and infiltrating the website.
I relinquished my US citizenship March 2016 and was told then that it might take up to 6 months before I received a confirmation or refusal of my relinquishment. It is now November 2016–well beyond the 6 month limit–and have received nothing from the US authorities. I am now a little concerned over what has happened to my paperwork. Is there any way of determining if my process is unusually slow (is this normal?) or has been lost in some bureaucratic black hole? Thanks,
@ Greg,
It’s unfortunately not abnormal, particularly depending on location. However, eight months is pretty long and it is overdue based on what you were told.
When CLNs have been slow to arrive (by DoS standards, which are pretty slow to begin with), some people have found it useful to contact the Division Chief for their Division of the Office of American Citizens Services (CA/OCS/ACS) which issues the CLNs in Washington. This has produced results quite speedily for several Brockers where things seemed to be lost in the cracks, so it’s definitely worth a try. You can find the contact info for your Division Chief in the Dept of State Telephone Directory on page OD-17 of the current directory.
The abbreviations for the Divisions in the telephone directory are: NESCA (Near East and South Central Asia), EAP (East Asia and Pacific) WHA (Western Hemisphere), AF (Africa), EUR (Europe).
Hope you get it soon!
Note: The Dept of State telephone directory can also be accessed through the sidebar under “State Dept Forms, Manuals, Contact Info.” It has phone and snail mail addresses but unfortunately not e-mail addresses.
