Some of our participants are poets. Here is a sample of their work pulled out of the comment stream:
From Em, I call it, “Dotty, Potty, Naughty”:
As I pile on the years and perhaps become dotty
It’s likely my mouth will become a wee potty
And I’ll label the States as the “axis of rotty”
Then I’ll hope some Brockers will not get all haughty
And berate me for being politically naughty
From usxcanada, perhaps “Simmering in the City”:
Way to go, Em! Fun trumps moan. See what you’ve inspired:
For bucolic souls stuck to simmer in city
A puzzle is buried in this little ditty –
Not to get hackles up by being too gritty
For thin-skinned offense seems such a pity –
What censored rhymes keep this squib witty?
Then, this is Em’s retort, “Outlander! Watch Out!”:
@ usaxcanada
This took awhile but I am absolutely incorrigible today …
The US has failed to pay back all its loans
So expats get nibbled right down to their bones
Bewilderment changes to rages and moans
How long will it be ’til they’re targets of drones
And they’re no longer safe in their outlander homes
Thanks folks. I’d respond in kind, but I am a very bad poet.
“Thanks folks. I’d respond in kind, but I am a very bad poet.”
Well obviously I am too — tucked those things, sans punctuation (erp!), into a long past thread — and now I’m outed. Hopefully there won’t be any hackles raised. It’s just a bit of hyperbole … or is it? 😉
@Em: Obviously you are not a bad poet, and I appreciated these naughty little ditties.
As I sit here in my humble abode north of the 49
I’m glad I was born in this wonderful country of mine.
Clean air and everywhere I look, I see trees.
The animals, rivers and even the bees.
I live in the best city in the best province in Canada,
I even get to watch Kevin Bieksa (on the ice).
As a Canuck, it’s hard-pressed to beat,
To live in this wonderful utopian retreat.
I look down south and see with dismay.
How the US
is conducting its affairs today.
Massive debt, unchecked spending.
Fleece their expats to support unsecured lending.
The eagle has found its talons clipped.
The deficit enormous, their credit rating has slipped.
Foreign countries are scrambling to leave.
The US
economy looks like a sieve.
Maybe that’s why I see more and more.
The bald eagle…that I seem to adore.
Cause who wants to live where freedom is but a word
In the dictionary and our rights are never heard.
Cause after all when the façade of freedom
The pugnacious jingo of patriotism.
Drops to silence and wails of anger start.
The fallout will tear the United States apart.
Democrats versus Republicans, verbally stepping on each
others toes.
Each blaming the other for their economic woes
Elephant and Ass, trumpeting and braying
The religious right self-righteously praying.
Righting this sinking ship is going to take a mountain of
luck.
Unless something happens the US is
******!!!
