A reader sent me the following link:
Clooney to visit Geneva for Obama fundraiser
Clooney is set to visit the Swiss city for fundraising events on August 27th, according to Charles Adams, an American lawyer and a representative of the Democratic Party.
The movie actor plans to speak at a reception for 150 supporters paying $1,000 each, Adams told the Tribune de Genève newspaper.
The event will be followed by a dinner for 50 people coughing up $20,000 each ($30,000 for couples) for the privilege of breaking bread with Clooney.
Here is a tweet I posted about this yesterday:
https://twitter.com/USCitizenAbroad/status/225252023128436737
What is says is:
“While @MittRoney has accounts outside U.S. @BarackObama taps #offshore accounts for campaign http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2 … Are they #FBAR compliant?”
*I think I will have a McDonald’s Hamburger instead.
*I’ll contribute $3 to a local street artist.
Perhaps some swiss brocker want to organize a manifestation outside the dinner. I wonder what kind of turn out you could get for that?
@petros…‘masochists’, I love that, lol! Maybe Clooney should play the role of the Marquis de Sade and hand out FBAR forms as mementoes of the evening.
A BIG sigh…..
Now, in addition to the boycott on the propoganda WAR movies,or anything of the like, I will also boycott all George Clooney movies.
Well, they obviously need a pretty face to distract people from the reality of what Obama is really doing. It will be interesting to see how much is raised, the article said that last time over $900K was raised. If the US-born Swiss are able to see past that famous face, then hopefully it will be cancelled through lack of ticket sales. That would send a lovely message.
I see that Romney is planning a trip overseas to canvas for votes amongst Americans Overseas.
Romney foreign trip highlights significance of overseas U.S. voters
It is a day old, so in the fast internet environment, I don’t know if there is any merit in posting a comment on a story already with 641 comments, a lot of them lame. However, It might provide some small opportunity to say what Expats want from a candidate.
If I were Swiss-American, I’d be in the front boycotting with large signs. If someone wants to pay for me to go there! The Truth needs to be told.
@petros
Is there a way to set up a “sign/up” for the manifestation? If you can, please add my name. Let’s see if we can get enough Genevois USPA’s behind this.
@roger
instead of McDo, would you add your name as well?
What? Arschloch Clooney coming here to raise money for a party that openly supports laws that violate human rights and constitutions? Somebody should make a criminal complaint against him so he’ll have to cancel just like Bushie-poo-junior (George the Monkey) had to cancel when he was invited for some gala event here in the CH. (Somebody was rumored to have tried to indite him for war crimes, I don’t know what happened with the complaint, the news is oddly silent on the subsequent events in that affair).
*Can you just imagine the unmittigated gall in all of this? George Clooney is going to Switzerland to solicit funds in support of president Obama from traitororous tax evading American citizen criminals who actually have Swiss banks accounts.
It must be that having a Swiss bank account for Democrats is perfectly ok, but not for Republican candidate Mitt Romney.
If this is not the height of hypocracy please tell me what is.
@geeez, Swiss-Americans are generally lined up at the US embassy in Bern, waiting to renounce:
@Roger, thanks for pointing out the irony of all these campaign contribution cheques being drawn on Swiss bank accounts!
And why Switzerland and not Canada, Mr Clooless? Surely there are more US citizens in Canada, or are they just more ‘well heeled’ in Switzerland for some reason?
bubblebustin, US political candidates are aware that the vote of 1 million Americans in Canada is absolutely worthless. It’s not the vote that matters, but the money. Canadians pay more taxes than Americans, while Americans in Switzerland must have at least 2 million dollars stashed away in their secret offshore tax haven account. All that I need now is for Mr Clooless to tell me where all these millions that I’m supposed to be hiding are located so that I can financially pressure Obama to lower FATCA enough to leech every penny out every Canadian that hasn’t already been double-taxed and penalized.
@Roger, wonderful!
The fundraising from those of us ‘abroad’ continues:
see http://www.ottawacitizen.com/news/Romney+Obama+turn+donors+living+abroad+help+filling+their+campaign/7010948/story.html
…”Both have been aggressively courting Americans living abroad, raising
money to pay for what may be the most expensive election in U.S. history
and galvanizing a largely untapped group of eligible voters.
Still no mention of fundraising attempts in Canada. Wonder how that would go?
*@badger
I’d like that. There would be at least one unwanted guest if a fundraiser was held in the Vancouver area 🙂
@bubblebustin;
Maybe that’s why we never hear of any similar events here in Canada? When they checked the chicken entrails; the results weren’t auspicious; between visions of those with the t-shirts and signs saying ‘Fight the Fwhat? Fundraiser’ and those in the red replica Isaac Brock outfits – and it being the 100th anniversary of the War of 1812 and all….
: )
@ Petros
Just a tiny point but could you correct the typo in the title (Swizterland)?
@Em, sorry too many languages. I fixed it. But for me the “t” isn’t even necessary because the German “z” already has the “t” in it. Cheers. 🙂
