[We now have a NEW POST taking us up to February 1, 2015. This post will be retired from service.]
THE AUTUMN 2014 UPDATE
Dear Donors,
Together, we reached our goal of $100,000 to pay the November 1 legal bill 11 days ahead of schedule!
Thank you Canadian donors from coast to coast and our friends from around the world for your generosity, support and determination — and especially for not being afraid.
The name of our non-profit corporation is the “Alliance for the Defence of Canadian Sovereignty.”
We were very deliberate in including in our name the word “sovereignty”, which forms a cornerstone of our Claims against the Government of Canada.
Canada and dozens of other countries throughout the world gave into a bully because their “leaders” were afraid of harm caused by a trading “partner” — and they gave their sovereignties away.
Help us convince by example the Leaders and Governments of all countries worldwide that they should return their sovereignties back to their Peoples.
Please continue to support our lawsuit.
“Alone we can do so little. Together we can do so much.” (Helen Keller)

Chers donateurs,
» (Helen Keller)

@calgary
Actually, as you might remember, we cannot print an entire article from anyone without the author’s permission so I have edited the comment.
Thanks, Tricia. There is the same full piece in comment here: http://isaacbrocksociety.ca/media-and-blog-articles-open-for-comments/comment-page-63/#comment-3454305.
@ calgary411
I’m afraid the sweet little honey “bee” that I usually “em” (NOT!) woke up more like a disturbed “hornet” this morning. I just prefer to see this thread used more for encouragement, fund raising ideas and updates on the progress of ADCS and the lawsuit. Moody and Berg are, however, useful as incentives to contribute more to ADCS, IMHO.
Good idea, Em and Calgary.
@ Everybody,
We’ve been getting some comments on this thread recently, that are quite worthwhile comments, but are not related to the subject.
This lawsuit is really important. So, especially on this thread, please post only comments related to topic.
What if you have something to say, but you don’t see a thread that’s “exactly” relevant for your comment? That’s okay. Choose a thread that’s close in subject matter — or one that’s of a general nature (eg., threads like FATCA or US Tax or Renunciation/Relinquishment, etc, which cover a lot of ground).
Thanks!
@EmBee
That was precisely my point: Berg’s article was posted 1 week after the supposed “relaxation of rules”. Coming from “a FATCA profiteer” (as you say) just highlights what a boatload of BS it is.
@Calgary411
No problem, I was going to insert only a hyperlink. duly noted berg’s october 7th comment, bit more detailed on his oct 14th blog.
Just need now $5,410 in 15 days.
Was there ever any doubt?
@ Stephen Kish
Now THAT’S what I want to see when I come to the “its-time” thread. Good news! If you ever watched the “All Creatures Great and Small” TV series you’ll remember Siegfried saying to Jim whenever he was putting a horse to sleep in order to perform life-saving surgery, “She’s not going down, Jim. She’s not going down.” Well looks like this phase of ADCS IS going down in history with a wonderful flurry of contributions. And soon we’ll be on to the next phase. Thanks “bee” to a ALL!
Great to see our contributions reaching up to the top of the thermometer. I am so happy that so many people have come together to make this lawsuit happen. I did see Arvay on TV the other night in BC regarding assisted suicide. He is willing to take on tough cases, no doubt. I hope he wins this one for people who are suffering and I know he’ll give our case the very best he’s got. I admire his tenacity. Thanks to everyone for their contributions to get us off the ground. Canadians are proud fighters. Too bad the current government hasn’t realized this yet. Stay the course and I will too.
EmBee, Tricia and Pacifica,
That is exactly what the ADCS-ADSC thread is for, especially as we’re nearing a very important deadline. We should all try to stick to relevant threads in our comments. I know I, too, am sometimes guilty of doing that same thing.
Comment from Fifi: on IRS come knocking.
I can’t believe that after 3 years, I’m still having moments of anxiety about all of this. I guess it’s time for another contribution… that has made me feel better in the past! At least I feel that I’m doing something about it and hopefully part of the solution (although anonymously!).
Northernstar: Just want you to know you’re making lots of new friends *here*. 🙂
@northernstar : You can pick friends … but you cannot pick family. If family behave badly or act as if they might be ignoramuses then so be it … you need not associate with them too often – they need to be responsible for their own behavior. Sadly there are too many Homelanders that are invested with this “Ugly American” State of Thought .. misguided as it is …. and then they wonder why they are not liked in other cultures … dumb is as dumb does … remaining stuck in a state of stupid is a personal choice. The US does have some great technology (not all invented there) but has never really had good procedures and appreciation for the art of life. The US is trying to reduce medicine to checklists to be completed by call center operators and (if you are lucky) some form of tech. It does not work. Vide the nonsense about the CDC (or some call center operator there reading a check list from a computer screen no doubt) approving the sick nurse to travel … by airline no less … just this past week.
@northernstar – Part II – Just check what has been happening with the US Veterans Administration Hospital system for another example of sub standard (indeed downright appalling procedures and practices in the US). The US has a great Constitution … but lost its way a long time ago. The US economy is no longer the world’s largest … that honour (?) now belongs to China. US Hegemony is heading the way of all prior empires … into the history books as a “once was”. Am I happy about that ? …. not so much ….. the US has been the great hope of so many for a long time now …. it is sad to see her being dragged down by bad political policies. The sadder part is that so many Homelanders do not see the decline.
$3,834 everyone.
Please don’t stop now.
Fantastic. Thanks for another WOW update, Stephen. The Little Train That Could.
@MuzzeleNoMore and @Nervous Investor.
Thanks for you kind words. I know my IBS family really shares so much of my values. It is hard to try to convince family and even my close “only” Cdn friends how important this all is My brother has tunnel vision and he never was a reader nor interested in “libral” causes. He pretty much is a Sean Hannity guy and watches Hannity faithfully… We are such opposites. The only way he sees FATCA is that we all should renounce and why do we want to live in another country other than America.
As for the VA problems. I have known for years. I had a friend who went to the VA and his daughter who was a nurse in the VA hospital.. I know the horror stories. And this is in 2002.
@Stephen Kish
Have you ever considered “Kick starter” as another way to raise funds? There is a wide spectrum of items that folks are financing there. I have not been following IBS much the past couple months, as engaged in other activities, so if it has been mentioned before, I apologize.
https://www.kickstarter.com/?ref=nav
@Stephen Kish…..
Joe Arvey may or may not have considered the following.
I honestly believe that this is not just a Charter issue but it is also a citizenship issue.
Does the Government of Canada recognize the US Citizenship of a Canadian Citizen who happened to have been born in Canada and who has never entered Canada on a US Passport?
Canada and only Canada has the sovereign power to decide the citizenship of Canadians within Canada. There is no section of Canadian law recognizing “dual/multi citizenship.” In fact there is a plethero of international law that states you can only have a single citizenship at any point in time.
Gwen and Gwevil are Canadian Citizens resident in Canada, who have no trappings of US Citizenship nor do they consider themselves to be Canadian.
It MIGHT be likely that either of them have some remote claim to other citizenships!!
IF Gwen and Gwevil are solely Canadian in the eyes of the Canadian Government then the FATCA IGA is moot with respect to them.
It might be very interesting if the Minister in charge of nationality could be named in the litigation as well.
This may be a third avenue of attack which could also provide a partial victory.
@ Everybody,
We’ve been getting some comments on this thread recently, that are quite worthwhile comments, but are not related to the subject.
This lawsuit is really important. So, especially on this thread, please post only comments related to topic.
Comments about how well the lawyer argues another case (Assisted Suicide) are relevant. People visiting this website should know that the commenters praise the lawyer’s skills but you, the visitor are welcome on this website regardless of how you feel about that other issue.
Past 13 million gross page views (12.416 million on this site and 0.6 million on the prior one). The interest seems to be rising like a young man’s sap in the spring time. Keep on keeping on my friends … the cause is righteous.
BTW I see that there is a new entry into the social media marketplace that is not focused (yet) on data gathering ….. I think that is is called ello or some similar name ….. I think that I will try to find it and see if an anti FATCA and anti CBT and PRO Freedom discussion can be started … maybe ….
If anyone wants a glimpse of what’s involved in arguing a case before the Supreme Court of Canada (SCC), the webcast of Joe Arvay and other counsel is now available at the SCC site.
Lee Carter, et al. v. Attorney General of Canada, et al.
SUMMARY

FACTUMS

WEBCAST
http://www.scc-csc.gc.ca/case-dossier/info/webcast-webdiffusion-eng.aspx?cas=35591
The “Factums” show the vast amount of preparation and written detail that accompanies a case – also a good insight into Arvay’s style of organizing and presenting a case.
The webcast shows Arvay and the other counsel presenting their arguments than answering questions from the Justices.
I’m posting this ONLY to provide insight into what’s involved in taking a case to the SCC.
Please DO NOT launch debate on IBS regarding physician assisted dying – it will be distracting and divisive! There are many other forums for that.
@Wondering,
Thanks for the update on one of Mr. Arvay’s Supreme Court cases. I have included a link to your comment in my post above.

Nativity’s place generates much woe
Geography, too, can cause its own curse
Nationality, their offspring, can sow
Seeds of duality, which is much worse
For the citizens of Eritrea
And the slippery slaver, USA……….
I think there are some things that need to be said here regarding this court Challenge. I have been trying to get the message out to all in the Canadian Native groups and leaders as best I can. It seems to be working as I am seeing results and feel better knowing that the message is getting out. I really want to tell everyone around the world that might feel helpless that there is hope. Let Canada be the country strong enough to stand up to this extra territorial law being forced on us. When Canada succeeds and the court rules in favor of our rights, everyone’s rights around the world will be effected by this outcome. When the citizens of Canada are once again protected, this will become the news of the world and will certainly be in favor of the people rather than the banks and governments that signed an IGA in fear. To all around the globe who have supported us and who will in the future, Thank you! Canada will unite the world and not stand for this.
@ Native Canadian
I envy you having such a wonderful network to spread the message to. Thanks to all of them who respond to your message with understanding and especially with an ADCS donation. I wouldn’t be surprised if they are part of this surge we’ve had as we end this phase and begin the next. I echo your words to everyone outside of Canada. When we succeed with an anti-FATCA win it will turn the tide worldwide for all victims of this US attack on their financial security and privacy.
