Brock is Back! Thanks for your patience.

The site went down Friday night due to an accident during routine maintenance with repair complicated by a software incompatibility. Thanks to our webmaster for a great job getting us back on line. Thanks also to everyone who e-mailed to make sure we knew the site was down and/or expressing concern, and welcome back to all!

  1. Thanks.

I use some links to Brock to help highlight that Residence Based Taxation is what should be, such as:

    https://isaacbrocksociety.ca/2016/03/08/us-expats-evade-taxation-not-mythbusted-91-5-of-expats-live-in-high-tax-regions/

The above page does not show up on Twitter in new tweets as good as it used to.

This tweet below shows a screenshot on Twitter of two tweets linking the Brock page. At top is what shows in Twitter of an old Tweet link to the page and on the bottom of what shows on Twitter now of a new link to the page.

Note that the old link shows some of the table on the Brock Page and also some text beginning with: US Expats Evade Taxation? NOT. #Mythbusted: 92.5% of expats liv… I like how it displays.

A new Tweet with link to the page just shows the url which may be clicked on. My preference is how it showed previously.

Perhaps for the old tweet, Twitter is storing that as an image instead of fetching the referenced url anew.

I think the previous Brock website had twitter html tags and maybe Facebook tags to tell those programs what to show when a page is referenced.

My work around would be to keep an image of the old page of how it would show in Twitter and then attach it to a tweet with the url referencing the page.

  2. Thanks, JC, for letting us know and for sharing your workaround. I’ll look into what I can do on our end.

  3. @DogDude,
Threads specifically created for and/or most commonly used for Q&As are listed with their links in the Sidebar under the “Important Information” heading, and include the Banking Issues, Consulate Report Directory, Entering the US, FATCA Questions, Renunciation and Relinquishment Questions, and Tax Questions threads.
