  1. I also think that this would be a good idea. Outside of London is a complete information desert. Even the ACA seems to have gotten into the habit of scheduling its meetings at truly inconvenient times for people who don’t live near London (the next one is a few days after yours at 5pm in London). Last ACA annual tax talk provided no live link facility. Almost all local council areas in Britain have a U.S.-born population of at least .5%

  2. The problem with any kind of recording etc, is that people then become afraid of being identified.They tend to not come or won’t participate. We did a meeting about a month ago via Uber phone conference that seemed to take care of this and are planning to do more.

  3. hi what time should we arrive – is John’s the only speech that day (i see the thing a few months ago had other speakers through the day).

    didn’t know about the ACA event-is there any more information about that?

  4. Hi @Allan, the ACA event is 6pm Thurs 3 Mar at Somerset House in the Strand, near Waterloo Bridge.

    As for tomorrow, I’d try to arrive perhaps 30 minutes before the official time. You can remain anonymous if you wish.

  5. @Trish
    O.k., valid point. I hope John gets lots of attendees, since I am sure there are some very confused “U.S. persons” out there.

    @Mona Lisa
    Thanks for the notice that that ACA meeting changed to a much more sensible time for people working in London. I’m still on the e-mail list but haven’t renewed because I can never make the events.

    @Allan
    The meetings are very different, but fortunately not expensive.
    ACA’s Executive Director will be there from Washington, D.C. and will “provide an update on some of the key initiatives [ACA leaders] are engaged in, including SCE/RBT (Same-Country Exemption and Resident-Based Taxation), repeal of NIIT (Net Investment Income Tax), and a service we are announcing on 1st March which will make it easier for Americans residing abroad to open a State-side bank account” among other things. “This Chapter meeting will last one hour, and be followed by a reception at which a variety of beverages will be served. Attendance is free-of-charge for ACA members, £10 for all others. Please confirm your attendance by emailing Mike Larsen, Chairman of the UK Chapter” at michael.larsen at americansabroad.org (replace “at” with @). Map is available at http://www.somersethouse.org.uk/plan-your-visit/directions-and-map.

  6. Hi Mike,

    John generally goes to London more than once a year; I don’t anticipate any before the end of this year. Please stay tuned at the sidebar where John’s meetings are posted. (right-hand side; just above the picture of Isaac Brock)..
