For discussion on possible advertisements…

fatca_web_6x2

Deb says:

…while I wanted to actually mention Harper and the Conservatives, I agree with Chears that that would probably be hard to get submitted.
So I made the ad as generic as I could while still getting the gist. At least I hope so.
The layout is like the one Chears ran and is intended as a starting point. Input from everyone is welcome and appreciated.

There is other advertisement discussion at https://isaacbrocksociety.ca/2014/03/28/breaking-news-tories-hide-fatca-law-in-budget-act/comment-page-2/#comment-1318170.

(Note:  I’m just putting this in one place in case people want to discuss options of what they’d like to do.  I am not the coordinator for this effort, just the poster.)

  1. @Atticus and Chears,
I don’t have the same privileges as Calgary411, NobleDreamer and Pacifica. I can create posts, but do not have administrator access.

  2. I think a catalogue of ads with the PDF format as well would be justified and then people can choose on their own what they want to run in their local papers.

Some may think their finances maybe impaired in the future and I posit that spending money on ads in small neighborhood papers within larger population areas where there are likely to be more of us pariahs is a good way to spend some money before the enemy gets some and do some good and stir up some (excuse my lack of eloquence) shit.

  3. I’ve update the post with two new versions sent by Deb.

    fatca_web_6x2_d

    fatca_web_6x2_f

Personally, of these I like Choice #2 — but would take out second “that” and don’t think it needs “in Canada”.

  4. Why spend money on advertising in newspapers when you can write a letter to the editor and have it published for free?

  5. that’s a throwaway email and I don’t know how to access it
    ask Blaze. she has it

    or Peter who has disappeared

  6. I’ll fix that calgary 411. But I don’t understand why you want to take out the anger inducing fact that the law is American.

  7. I tried getting letters published. Doesn’t work that often and time is of the essence. Anyway I’m running it in Squamish next week and if no one helps me then I’ll never do this again. So we’ll see. I think I have one other person. But if I can’t get it uploaded then I can’t get volunteers. I feel like I’m in an episode of Chopped where some are worried about what the food looks like but they forget to eat it ;-))

  8. I wish others out there with some artistic experience here would also join in. We should develop a catalog of ads, bumper strips, stickers whatever

  9. No. My point was the word American was replaced with “A New Canadian law…..”
The fact that it’s an AMERICAN law being shoved down our throats induces the anger we want in people. The fact the Harper bent over to allow will make them angrier.

  10. @nervousinvestor,
I have not forgotten about you. Do you want to wait and see what else is presented before I send you the pdf?

  11. I made my comment to the two new versions you put up, Deb. Whatever the consensus is fine with me. I’ll just post what you want me to post.

I’m waiting for Chears ad, then I’m off for the night as it will be an early morning and busy day for me tomorrow.

  12. This is disappointing. Sorry, I can’t get behind this approach, primarily because it is dishonest. But good luck.

  13. OMG, so it’s ok for us to be victims of dishonesty but not fight fire with fire? I don’t see it as dishonest because the banks are going to ask ALL Canadians who they are and where they come from. There is nothing dishonest about it at all but I have to tell you that when it comes to fighting the enemy all is fair. If you don’t see them as the enemy then you are either in the very wrong place or part of the problem. No high road for me. I’m not trying to make friends with the enemy. I want to destroy them before they destroy us.

BTW July 1st is coming and we need to organize some kind of protest that is sure to get media attention

  14. Wow, lots of discussion going on. I still like “as is” with a “suppose” workaround. Good work all! I’m thinking about doing another local ad but wondering if a combined population of 10K is big enough. This ad being smaller would at least cost me less. I don’t have a clue how many hereabouts are “US persons” but I do know we have lots with an Italian heritage. One dear Italian neighbour has this response to every problem, “What ya gonna do Em. What ya gonna do.”
    @ Deb
Brock has a history of this so bear with us. Reminds me of the FATCA fact sheets. Everything worked out great there.

  15. @bubblebustin – Nothing dishonest so long as we’re targeting “U.S. persons”. But I’m pretty sure that we’re not. We need to consider the consequences if we are going to start spinning the truth.

@Chears – I appreciate your contribution here, but you need to let other ideas in. Where I live, your ad would come across as highly politicized and very suspect. Isaac Brock – who is that and who cares? It wouldn’t make a whit of difference.

Can we not open up our minds a little and try something else?

  16. I’m running that ad in Squamish (4,000 recipients) whether anyone joins me or not. If anyone doesn’t know why Squamish is the choice of the week next week then they aren’t paying attention. We have an enemy in Squamish that needs to get as much flack from the local citizens from West Vancouver all the way to Whistler as possible. In my opinion, because of the letter to the editor by one of us and the sickening outrageous response by that local bankster who imagines he is some kind of upstanding citizen, this is the best bang for my buck.

This is not a game nor is this place a charity. People should continue to cough up money and time or both. Whatever ad is run and as long as it’s being effective then just do it and stop the back and forth debating. The PDF files for all ads should be linked to on this site permanently so people here can use the appropriate ones of their choosing, send them to local papers for publishing at their cost or split costs. People should just call the ad dept. and use the alias Isaac Brock as the contact and not their own name….they don’t care believe me. CC information is confidential so no one needs to be overly paranoid about that. If they don’t want to run the ad (they will) they will just say no.

My contact will run ads in every local community paper in British Columbia if I ask him to do it. Why should he care? He’s a sales person who happens to believe in what we are doing.

Again, all the information is here:
    https://isaacbrocksociety.ca/2014/03/08/brock-advertisement-in-riding-of-kerry-lynn-findlay-minister-of-national-revenue/
so anyone can do what they want with any of those papers.

604-998-3611 x3611 asking for Bob Ferguson, say it’s Isaac Brock calling and then give Bob their Credit Card number and preferred publication date. A receipt, if requested, will be sent to any address but I would think it should go to IBS for deductions if necessary, unless otherwise specified; and ask for confirmation about which specific date it will run because he’s sure there will be more than one person wanting to do this.

If there is more than 1 ad donor for any one ad that called then he will say so as he knows that not everyone can afford the whole cost of an ad and will want to split costs. He’s fine with that too. This arrangement is far advanced and so folks here should be thankful we have Bob on our side and use this resource. I don’t yet see any other programs this organized, so everyone can anonymously participate.

Here is the price list for some other papers and Bob can also place them there:

The 6 columns x 2″ full colour banner ad is at the following costs:(@2.5
    readers per doorstep delivered to):
    North Shore News $455 b/w $560 63,000 doorsteps
    Vancouver Courier $672 b/w $797 103,000 doorsteps
    Richmond News $269 b/w $339 47,000 doorsteps
    Surrey North Delta$388 b/w $463 85,000 doorsteps
    S/Sry&White Rock $162 b/w $213 31,100 doorsteps
    Langley Advance $249 b/w $310 40,000 doorsteps
    New Westminster $141 b/w $205 17,000 doorsteps
    Burnaby Now $252 b/w $310 48,000 doorsteps
    Coquitlam/PM/POCO $260 b/w $325 54,000 doorsteps

has access to all other papers in BC

“Please let me know where and when we can run your ad again.
Best of success with your campaign.
    Thanks

    Bob”

  17. @ ChearsBigEars
Sounds like a plan. Squamish is a good target. When I placed a FATCA alert ad awhile back I adjusted everyone’s ideas to fit the format for a half page ad and put my own touch on it. I couldn’t use an alias though because the publisher is our neighbour. I didn’t mind the cost because it helped out our local newspaper.
