As we approach March 18, 2020, the 10th Anniversary of #FATCA approaches: @RealDonaldTrump appoints @RepMarkMeadows as chief of staff

Attention this post is NOT fake news! This post is NOT about tax compliance!

Readers of Brock may recall that Representative Meadows chaired the 2017 FATCA hearing in Washington, DC. This was reported on extensively at the Issac Brock Society in various posts including this transcript. The primary Government witness was Elise Bean (currently a professor at Wayne State Law School).

This could NOT be bad news for those who oppose FATCA. The White House does have the authority to direct U.S. Treasury to make many regulatory changes to alleviate the pain experienced by Americans abroad (with or without Congressional repeal of citizenship taxation).

More extensive coverage is found at American Expat Finance.

It’s interesting how things like the 2017 FATCA hearing can produce possible unexpected benefits …

  1. I would really like to believe that Mark Meadows’ appointment might pave the way for a turn-around in U.S. government attitudes toward us. I don’t think I’ll hold my breath, but I’m going to consider this a ray of hope.
