WHAT:The Shot Heard Round the World”
“Citizenship Taxation is a CRISIS for US Persons Worldwide
WHO: Host – Bahman Yazdanfar with John Richardson, Peter W. Dunn & Trish Moon
A recent U.S. Senate Finance Committee study failed to issue any recommendations to address the intolerable treatment of the 8 million “U.S.Persons” (and their families) living abroad. One noted tax-lawyer implied that the Working Committee “is willing to state that these concerns need to be considered however,is not yet willing to say there is a crisis.”
The U.S. Senate Finance Committee response to expats: “NOT a Crisis”
Our response: “See You in Court”
- What is CBT? (Citizenship-based Taxation)
- Why is it so difficult to to understand how CBT & FATCA reporting is not the same as RBT & CSR reporting?
- Will RBT end FATCA and the IGA’s?

I don’t think the archive starts at the beginning. Did the first 1/2 hour or so not get recorded perhaps?
Besides the extremely serious content of the discussion here- I was wondering why it had to be shot in front of such a really crappy art collection? IMHO- that just takes away from the gravity of the matter at hand. The artwork was just so amateur, that I feel it makes the speakers look amateur too. And this while what they have to say is SO IMPORTANT.
LOL. Seriously? Are you an art critic now?
Yes- seriously. You dont have to be an art critic to see that the art in the background is not good. And I honestly do believe that it takes away from the message. Why? Because the message is SO SERIOUS. And the art is not. I would even have preferred a blank wall behind the speakers. The art is even oddly distracting.
and come to think of it- this has nothing to do with being an “art critic “. Why do some people have public relations experts working for them? Its about how we come across. I think we are all dying to be taken SERIOUSLY and we haven’t really been getting that. Certainly not enough. That is galling in and of itself.
ThatChannel.com is a Toronto-based internet-based TV provider. Consider it alternative media where content is NOT the regulated, abbreviated regular media that never goes into anything in depth anymore — boring and non-informative VS warm, interesting and informative. I enjoyed the more funky art in the background, which is likely art by local artists, displayed there and sold off the wall as local art is in many local places — and the kind I’d buy to support local artists where I live. (In Calgary) I prefer to treat myself at the mom’s and pop’s and support them by spending my $$$ there instead of the big chain corporations, whatever they are selling. My goodness, even CBC in Canada is continually at risk of the chopping block. We absolutely need alternative sources of media where what is broadcast on the nightly *news* isn’t sound bytes that meet the guidelines of the ever-increasing big corporation model. Bravo for providing a platform for discussion by Peter, John and Tricia, ThatChannel.com. Can anyone imagine an hour that conversation had compared to one of the major TV providers?
Beauty and art appreciation is in the eye of the beholder, though I’ll be the first to admit my eye pleases only me. (I even enjoyed how the colour in Trish’s outfit was emphasized by a similar shade of the colour in the art behind her.)
I think Peter’s tan was accentuated by the colours in the artwork. 🙂 Maybe Polly has a point – the visuals distracted from the important message. Hmmmm…..maybe we need a new post to discuss this further…lol.
I’m just grateful that our trio had a venue to present this topic. I still think the first part of the show is missing because the youtube video just jumps in with Tricia speaking and usually Bahman’s shows have an introduction.

Does anyone want to publish the YouTube viewing figures and which countries out of interest?
They did record the whole thing; no idea why it didn’t air until halfway through.
This is the full YouTube version.
Thank you. Now I can watch the part I missed. When I was watching live I got a Please Stand By for the first 1/2 hour or so. I just thought you were delayed in getting started. Then it came in but it was obvious something was missing.
This is where I and about 150 others have been viewing the partial interview.
So, for everyone I’ve confused. There’s about 37 minutes missing from the partial version of the That Channel interview with John, Peter and Tricia. Trust me to find my way to the wrong place. I hope others who did the same will go view the full version (as I just did) — see Tricia’s link above.
After I finished watching the full version video I noticed that the views had jumped from 20 to 31 so it looks like others are finding their way to the right place now too. Does anyone have any comments (other than about the artwork — that’s been done)?
It’s so true what John said about compliance. You worry when you are compliant (it’s those damn $10K footfaults) and you worry when you are npn-compliant (it’s the uncertainty of when or if the hammer will fall and your retirement savings will be in jeopardy). The only ones not worrying are the ones who are oblivious (haven’t heard about CBT/FBAR/FATCA … yet) and the ones who think they’ve achieved perfect compliance (there’s no such thing as perfect compliance when even the so-called experts can’t get it right). Even those with CLNs can have niggling, back of the brain, worries that the USA will pass a retroactive law and grab ’em again. Overall, it was a very good discussion. Again my thanks to the panel for doing this. It’s very much appreciated.
Hinted at already formed:
Alliance For The Defeat of Citizenship Based Taxation
Yes, was that a twinkle in Tricia’s eyes when she slipped that in? ADCBT — taking a stab at the heart of the beast. We will wait for further details. Alliance for the Defeat of Citizenship Based Taxation looks like A Direct Counter to Bad Taxation. But, right now I must focus, focus, focus — there’s ADCS, the summary trial is getting very close and the Sovereignty Thermometer has not reached the top. I used to multi-task much better when I was younger (sigh).
no”based” in the title
Just Alliance for the Defeat of Citizenship Taxation
Oops, after the past 3 years of CBT rolling off my tongue, the “based” just slips in there. Anyway the best letter in ADCT is the D for Defeat. Onward!
