An Historic day! Help Canada Stand Up to the American Bully: Donate NOW to the Canadian Charter Challenge Fund!

Freedom is never voluntarily given by the oppressor, it must be demanded by the oppressed
~ Martin Luther King Jr.

Please help. Donate to the Canadian Charter Challenge Fund.

February 5, 2014 was the day we thought we would never see. It was the day the Canadian government announced it had caved to a foreign nation’s demands to invade our honest, law abiding lives as Canadian citizens and residents to seize our private and legal financial records. It was the day we learned the Canadian government considers us second class Canadians with limited rights under Canadian laws and Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

Today is the day we begin our drive to fight back. February 28, 2014 is the day we launch our Canadian Charter Challenge Fund to raise money for a legal opinion from prominent constitutional lawyer, Joseph  Arvay.

We must demand freedom. We must demand our government uphold our rights. We must demand the government place its citizens and residents over the demands of a foreign power.

We must demand our government place our rights over those of the bully oppressor. We must band together to fight for our cherished Canadian rights and freedoms. We must do it now.

Remember, the War of 1812 was not over until 1815. We should likewise expect our battle to be long, messy and expensive.

  1. @IRSCompliantForever. All I can say is … Praise the Lord and Pass the Ammunition (donations).

@all – come on folks ….. lets keep those cards and letters (and donations) coming !

  2. Just found this thread. Donation made (from an EU country, using an EU credit card, via the IBS’s CCCF PayPal tool). With sincere hopes, profound gratitude and warmest wishes.

  3. @ nervousinvestor. thanks for the link on BLAZE about IRS targeting a conservative commentator. It was eye popping-the next best thing I’ve seen in recent weeks after the C3F website and Catherine Engelbrecht’s testimony to Congress, which was spinechilling.

  4. @crystal london – I will have to find the Catherine Engelbrecht’s testimony to Congress – do you have a link?

  5. Just found the youtube video of Catherine Engelbrecht’s testimony to Congress – wow !

  6. Me too. IRS abuse just like FATCA abuse with citizenship-based taxation. Is this what we sit back and stay quiet about so we will not be discovered?

  7. Just got a response from Joe Preston’s office in St Thomas. The response was to “Fatca SPAM” I guess my questions and information to my MP are considered SPAM. UNREAL!!

  8. NativeCanadian,

Unbelievable. Who are these MPs that give us no representation?

    My Canadian Government Representatives,

I hope you will take time to listen to this brave woman who testifies before the US Congress. This is what freedom of speech is about. This woman stands up for herself, for her family, for others in her country, the USA. She speaks against the actions of the very Congress and the very IRS that bring us FATCA and US citizenship-based taxation in US collateral damage to seven million US expats around the world. https://isaacbrocksociety.ca/2013/12/15/wondering-why-has-the-world-turned-more-upside-down-for-some-than-other-us-persons-abroad/comment-page-2/#comment-1183380

Why will Canada not stand up for its most vulnerable ‘US Person’ Canadians, Mr. Flaherty? Some individuals and families just don’t have a voice and need their country to stand up for them. Why do you tell me and my son and other US Persons in Canada that we should take our concerns to the USA, not Canada? Please add this to my submission regarding the Canadian IGA “negotiated” with the US. It is tragic that Canada now has two-tiered citizenship for its people.

I refuse to be threatened and told to be quiet so I don’t embarrass any government representative, either side of the border, as the veiled threat indicated below (a supposed lawyer and ex-US Government person).

I invite you to read comments for discussion that gets into veiled threats toward the end of this discussion: https://isaacbrocksociety.ca/2012/05/23/canadas-registered-disability-savings-plan-rdsp-canadas-finance-minister-flaherty-responds-regarding-this-as-well-as-the-resp-and-tfsa/comment-page-1/#comment-168004.

@all, in case you believe that @5thSwiss presence here is positive, I call your attention to these words:

Others have agreed with me that as a practical matter you have done yourself a disservice with publicity. For the reason I mentioned: those responsible for enforcement would like it for cases such as your son’s to stay beneath the radar. That, at present, is the most they can do. Even if you had violated PFIC and tax rules they would have taken no initiative against you. But now you are notorious: it may be your strategy but it is not the best way. It is not “bowing to a bully” at all. The alternative is simply wasteful of time and money: the State has unlimited funds for enforcement if you insult its agents and they choose to take you on.

Now those of us familiar with Carol’s case believe that because her son was born in Canada, he is safe from Washington DC, no matter how vindictive any US government official becomes. So it is far fetched indeed that somebody in DC is going to go after him and Carol “with unlimited funds.” And this is the claim of someone who is a former US government employee? Well I believe that, but I wouldn’t want him to represent me. This is really some of the most disingenuous kind of crap I’ve ever seen in the comments, and I had to say something.

On the other hand, if Carol’s son is not safe from the US government, then no one in the world is safe from it. Scary thought, eh?

I can’t believe that the only way condoned to protect my son and other US Persons in Canada, some with a ‘mental incapacity’, is to sit down, shut up, don’t let them notice you and you will (perhaps?) not be penalized. I don’t want a work-around. I want something that makes sense for my son, but more importantly for all those others out there that don’t yet know what is going to hit them with FATCA and US citizenship-based taxation.

Is this what it’s all come down to?

    My regards,

    Carol Tapanila

  9. crystal london, from a comment you made elsewhere referring to brockers in various time zones.

The sun never sets on the Isaac Brock Society. 🙂

    or

We brock around the clock. 🙂

  10. Re: those on this site who sympathize with Carol Englebrecht. Please read this article: http://crooksandliars.com/mugsy/true-vote-virtually-nonexistent-voter-fraud-

“Houston based “True the Vote”, a fake “anti-voter fraud” group run by Catherine Engelbrecht, the head of a Texas-based Tea Party Organization that has publicly declared its opposition to President Obama, and has taken it upon themselves to “protect” the country from the nonexistent scourge of “voter fraud”, was caught sending letters to minority voters in Ohio challenging their right to vote.

ABC News’ Dan Harris investigated recent claims of “voter harassment” among poor blacks in Ohio by the Tea Party-backed group, speaking to Teressa Sharp, a low-income African-American grandmother that says she has voted in every election since she was 18, yet received a letter in the mail from TTV saying her “right to vote has been challenged by a qualified electorate” (FYI: an “electorate” is a population, not a person). The justification for this challenge? The report never says.

When Harris tells Engelbrecht that cases of “Voter Fraud” are more rare than prosecutions of “migratory bird violations” and “virtually nonexistent”, Engelbrecht responds that that means “there’s room for improvement.”

    ……

Racist far-right partisan Republicans think they have found a cloak of respectability in challenging the rights of the poor and minorities, who typically vote Democratic, on the grounds of “protecting our elections from voter fraud”. What justification is there to believe the poor and minorities are any more likely to commit “voter fraud” than rich white suburbanites that typically vote Republican? None. Yet for some odd coinky-dink, those just always seems to be groups they focus on.”

Is the Isaac Brock Society pro-Tea-Party or what? I’ve been looking at this site for a couple of months now and am beginning to wonder about this group’s allegiances.

  11. @Cee, just responding re the site/IBS “allegiances” (don’t know anything about the issue you raise, but thanks for the information). My personal impression over the last few years is that people here span a broad political spectrum, and some (many ?) would not necessarily find themselves agreeing on other issues, or voting the same way for the same local representatives ordinarily – but opposition to FATCA and extraterritorial US-Status-based taxation has touched everyone. It is such an obviously egregious wrong – now so aggravated and made obvious by FATCA that opposition crosses traditional party lines.

  12. @Cee. Anybody who has been following the Isaac Brock Society for any period of time would not conclude the ‘society’ is “pro-Tea Party” or of any particular political stripe. The participant here likely range from the far left to the far right and mostly in between. I would venture they have little awareness or concern about the so called ‘voter fraud’ issue in the U.S. What brings them together is the unjust means by which the U.S. is trying to push their tax laws on persons living their normal lives in other countries.

I for one don’t give a shit about the Tea Party, the GOP or the Dems. They are a side show.

  13. @Cee – Brockers come in all political stripes and few of them give a damn what happens south of the border any more so long as the entity south of the border stops infringing on the Sovereignty of the rest of the world … aka FATCA, CBT for two items.

Some of us do watch TV however and do talk to friends and family south of the border and do get impressions as to what is going on from time to time. It is is quite clear that voter fraud DOES happen in the US – the only debate seems to be the scale. I do not think that the allegations of fraud are limited to any particular ethnic group as the Democrats tend to suggest.

I would comment that, living in Jamaica as I do, a much poorer country than the US … we had large quantities of dead people who rose from the grave to vote at elections, people whose votes were “cast for them” without them getting to polling stations and so on. We had polling stations recording more votes than the populations of the constituency area and all sorts of shenanigans. We introduced an official Voter picture ID issued after house calls by officials and representatives of the parties, supported by finger prints and so on and since then the degree of fraud has reduced … not been eliminated completely .. ballot boxes still miraculously get stolen or get stuffed with bogus votes between the preliminary counts at the polling station and the final counts at the central electoral offices but the incidents are severely reduced. Strict Voter ID is a GOOD thing imho based on the real life experience on the ground in Jamaica – a much poorer country than the US and one with a majority of darker complexion on average (more like what YOU call Minorities and I call plain People) than the US.

It is also quite apparent that the IRS HAS abusively been targeting Conservatives and Tea Party groups a la Richard Nixon and his Enemies list. That is also a disgraceful TRAGEDY and one which might affect Brockers personally as they speak out for their rights.

This has been a short diversion – US Voter ID issues are not a focus of the Brockers. US extra-territorialism is.

  14. PEOPLE:

    STOP DONATIONS NOW!!!

I just went to the bank and found cheques and cash flowing in and did a quick calculation.

We made our goal in SIX days not 21.

What put us over the top was cash in the form of U.S. (!) Ben Franklins!

Next Stage Now ! Onwards Christian Soldiers (whatever your religion or even if you are an atheist), marching as to war ….. ok ok I will stop there. Though to be more inclusive perhaps that could be restated as Onwards Righteous Soldiers ! Sounds a little too militaristic to me and could be mistaken.

    So Cool Runnings folks.

You make me smile this morning ! Despite a little residual facetiness (a Jamaican expression) from the Politico blog.

  18. especially for George… ok it is lame but I had fun with it…
