It’s Time For A Second Canadian Anti-Fatca Protest ! UPDATE! Parliament Hill – Oct 16th!

FATCA Protest, Parliament Hill, October 16, 2013FATCA Fact Sheet       Anti-FATCA Slogans    Protest Press Release

AtticusinCanada has received an official permit to protest on Parliament Hill Oct. 16, 2013,  from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.!  We will meet at 9 a.m. in front of Parliament Hill and proceed to the Hill itself once we have a reasonably sized group. Families and even children are welcome if you feel they are old enough!  We ask that everyone bring their own sign. A good idea would be to email AtticusinCanada with the slogans you would like to use, so we have as few duplicates as possible.

The  mini-protest in Ottawa on Sept 9, 2013, garnered some well needed media attention. Just imagine how much  we could achieve if  more Brockers  joined forces for a larger protest at parliament hill this fall!

Many of us believe that a formal announcement of an IGA for FATCA is just around the corner. It’s time to ramp up with the push back. The letter writing and emailing to our elected representatives has been great, and some illuminating articles have been written by Lynne and Victoria, but we need to do more.

Atticusincanada and I would like to be the drivers towards organizing a larger protest, but first we need to gather enough participants. For those Brockers who can commit to coming to Ottawa for a day, and would like to join us, please email Atticusincanada at atticusincanada@gmail.com.

  1. I keep thinking about Richard Harvey and his attempts to make his brainchild workable, which include the subsequent actions of Treasury to make something unworkable work. Absurd.

  2. FATCA inevitable? I question that.

A few weeks ago, bombing Syria was “inevitable” too.

    Nothing is inevitable.

  3. China does not block this site! There are many others that I cannot get to (I am in Beijing). Yogagirl: look the US government will likely shut down. Expect them to stop the FATCA train wreck?

  4. kermitzii, I would never say “never” but the “govt is going to shut down” thing is like a fall mating ritual between the White House and Congress. It’s a lot of drama theatre that in the end signifies nothing – more often than not. But should there actually be a shut down, it’s not going to touch the FATCA train as much as it will close down services that real people use and send home govt workers who can’t afford the unpaid time off.

FATCA is proof of that, Will! I’m so glad I live in Canada.

  6. Announcement! Our permit to protest on Parliament Hill, Oct. 16th has been approved! I got confirmation this morning in my email and will print off the approval form to bring with me. Please email me if you are going to attend.

  7. @White Kat, there is no limit though in the permit submission I was required to guess how many and I kept the number somewhat small. However, as long as we do not impede the coming and going on the Hill or cause any person to not be able to do their work there we are fine. We are responsible to clean up anything we have used there and not leave the area with any litter.

@Petros, yes an update would be good. I have sent out an email to all who inquired about this on the day we began to discuss. Families and even children are welcome if you feel they are old enough!

  8. @NorthernStar,

Can you please email AtticusinCanada, so she can contact you directly if necessary. She is trying to keep a rough list of who is going.

  9. I was just invited to an event with the Finance Minister of Israel here in Washington, DC next month. I’d like to ask about FATCA if I have the chance. What do you think?

  10. @Em, it is October 16th on Parliament Hill in Ottawa. We just got the permit for the Hill today. 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

@Shadow Raider, if you get a chance to ask such a question I would go for it.

Yippee! The West wants in but I’m afraid we’re all a bit too far away to be there in anything but spirit. Can’t wait to read the reports. You rock!

  12. Mom, that is a wonderful idea! I also encourage everyone who is too far to do what you can locally. Put a sign in your yard or window that day. Protest locally as you see fit. Hand out pamphlets. Every little bit will help.
