It’s Time For A Second Canadian Anti-Fatca Protest ! UPDATE! Parliament Hill – Oct 16th!

FATCA Protest, Parliament Hill, October 16, 2013FATCA Fact Sheet       Anti-FATCA Slogans    Protest Press Release

AtticusinCanada has received an official permit to protest on Parliament Hill Oct. 16, 2013,  from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.!  We will meet at 9 a.m. in front of Parliament Hill and proceed to the Hill itself once we have a reasonably sized group. Families and even children are welcome if you feel they are old enough!  We ask that everyone bring their own sign. A good idea would be to email AtticusinCanada with the slogans you would like to use, so we have as few duplicates as possible.

The  mini-protest in Ottawa on Sept 9, 2013, garnered some well needed media attention. Just imagine how much  we could achieve if  more Brockers  joined forces for a larger protest at parliament hill this fall!

Many of us believe that a formal announcement of an IGA for FATCA is just around the corner. It’s time to ramp up with the push back. The letter writing and emailing to our elected representatives has been great, and some illuminating articles have been written by Lynne and Victoria, but we need to do more.

Atticusincanada and I would like to be the drivers towards organizing a larger protest, but first we need to gather enough participants. For those Brockers who can commit to coming to Ottawa for a day, and would like to join us, please email Atticusincanada at atticusincanada@gmail.com.

  1. All the best to those taking part tomorrow, in person or in spirit. Thanks so very much for making your in-person effort on behalf of all of us. Hope there are some questions asked; some more awareness garnered.

  2. My MP, John Weston posted something on Facebook. I suggested he drop by the demonstration and say hello.

  3. Good luck to all at the Ottawa protest today. Thanks for going public on behalf of all of us who are too far away or otherwise unable to attend.

Give out as many info sheets as possibly; you never know who they may wind up enlightening! You have the element of surprise; many people consider dual Canadian-US citizens to be lucky or privileged and may by surprised by the protest. In speaking with any reporters, try to tie into the current shutdown and debt ceiling mess in Washington that is dominating the news – try to piggyback with a “news hook”. Also point out the silence any specific politicians you have reached to; it may prompt a reporter to seek a rebuttal comment from them.

  4. Good luck today. I hope that the cameras and interviewers find you. Consider yourselves lucky that you have an environment that is conducive to such actions.

  5. … and another view:

Thanks all of you brave people protesting on our behalf! If I could wish, it would be for more like you showing our outrage.

  6. I sent a message to my MP John Weston’s office asking if he would drop by the protest. His assistant’s response was this:

    “Lol- cameras everywhere! J
I sent the email to the Ottawa office marked at high priority- hopefully he will have a chance to go out and say a quick hello.
    – Are these friends from the coast too?”

“cameras everywhere”? Sarcasm’s not a characteristic for her, so it must be true!!!

  7. @SwissPinoy…

Good to meet you on the Financial Sense Newshour… I guess we were doing our part to support the Ottawa Protest… 🙂

Way to go Brockers in Ottawa 😉

  8. @Benedict Arnold, yes, nice meeting you too! I was nervous as hell at first but managed to calm down a bit. 🙂

  9. in the webcam it appears that the Group is attracting people to its location. This is unique, based upon personalities, because most people lower their head and walk by protesters.

  10. All the people in the World that are willing to stand up and tell the USA administration to stay in USA where they belong (or, actually, they don’t belong there either, but that’s Another thing) .

  11. @Badger: Thanks for the suggestion. I tweeted it to Sophie.

Because of another tweet I did of the Protest, Nomad Capitalist in Thailand is now following me on twitter.

As Em commented on my article in The Money Guide, “Two seemingly small steps in tennis shoes could well be the beginning of stopping the FATCA jackboots at the Canadian border.”

Two are now six (as bubblebustin’ said, they have tripled in size!) with reaction from Thailand and elsewhere.

  12. It’s been a challenge today to keep up with all the postings on Brock but I’m trying to keep my focus on our intrepid band of ten? on Parliament Hill. I can hardly wait for a description of their experience. Thanks, Hazy, over at the Sandbox for giving us a link to the webcam. For the sake of the protesters I wish it had been a bright sunny day in Ottawa but then FATCA is such a downer so the grey skies and rain reflect the nature of FATCA angst better I guess. Maybe our protesters needed protest umbrellas instead of protest placards? Anyway, I am so proud of them.
