#FATCA: A “Simple Premise” Gone Terribly Wrong @TheHill ‘s Congress blog.

Victoria and Blaze ask in the articleHow did the “simple premise” of “cracking down on illegal tax evasion and closing loopholes” become an attack on financial lives and personal integrity of millions of people living outside United States, their banks and laws and constitutions of their countries of residence?”

  1. @Lynne and Victoria: Great work! Awesome article! I hope it gets the attention it deserves. Blaze, the double rainbow was a wonderful sign!

@All, Not all the comments have been positive. NoBigGovDuh needs a good whoopin.

  2. What an awesome job, Ladies!

Forwarding to my Conservative MP, and to my local news outlets. We are a border town, so plenty of us here.

  3. @Blaze and Victoria, Congratulations for the great article.

But I remember reading that official estimation of additional revenues due to FATCA would be only US$8 billion for ten years. It would be great to mention official estimation, along with miss-information that led to the FATCA.

  4. While it may fall on deaf ears, I hope a copy of this article is sent to President Obama and all of Congress. Sen Rand Paul and some others will embrace it, and also the Texas and California Bankers Association and others that are supporting the repeal of FATCA.

  5. It is still showing up as the most read story. Keep opening it up so that it stays that way when USA wakes up (pun intended)

  6. @Blaze and Victoria
Have just read your article in The Hill – congratulations on such forthright and understandable writing.

  7. @Mark Twain
Make sure there are no add-ons installed on your browser that are blocking the tracker called “Disqus”
If you can then try a different browser. I’m using FireFox and have a tracker blockin add-on called Ghostery which blocks “Disqus” and as a work around I switch to IE just for that particular site.

Not on topic, but does anybody know what is up with Jefferson D. Tomas???
I have not seen him here in a long time! I hope he’s just enjoying a peaceful vacation 🙂

  9. @bubblebustin,

It is storming pretty good right now in Ottawa. If I see a double rainbow too, I’ll let you know!

  10. @WhiteKat

    Please do!
Our friend NoBigGovDuh appears to be someone who takes pot shots and leaves. Wanker.

  11. @ WhiteKat
I didn’t name them but NoBigGovDuh and MichaelNolan are who I had in mind when I inserted “dunderheads” in my little contribution. The good news is that the Blaze/Victoria article is still trending as “Most Viewed”.

  12. Yeah, I’m in rare form today. ~evil grin~ And politeness went out the window for me. Tired of the self-righteous “Pay your taxes…” type snark.

  13. ” Here, I’ll make it simple for you: GET BACK TO WORK!!! As I explained to Mr. Liberal Piece of Pig S***… ” Nope…I’m not playing nice with him. I’ve had my fill of self-righteous, myopic homelanders.

” When someone ends up having to pay up “protection money” without the benefits inherent in paying that protection money it’s called extortion. For the “taxes” that expats pay, they receive NO benefits. And THAT my slightly slow friend, is the very definition of extortion.” – I think that sums it up concisely.

  14. @All

It’s nice to see that this item STILL is the top response for a Google News search just on the word “FATCA.” I can only imagine how that frosts the fellows over at Treasury and the compliance-mongers.

    Again, bravo, ladies!

  15. There is so much failure in that persons comments it’s hard to know where to start. I am sure those rascal ex pat tax “evasors” would write an article using their real names. Sad drive by trolling.

  16. @bublebustin: How cool is that rainbow?!?

I lived on Davie Street in Vancouver 40 years ago–long before it became “LGBTQ friendly Davie Street Village”

Seeing this photo put a smile on my face, brought back many wonderful memories of Vancouver’s West End–and reminded me of the many reasons why I love being Canadian.

  17. I was just outside in downtown Ottawa, right near the Ministry of Finance, and guess what I saw — a double rainbow!

Your article is even more powerful than I thought it was.
