Now, if only the US would come to their senses and change to Residence-Based Citizenship… and if we could all live in peace in the countries of our choice, reporting our incomes and paying our taxes to and for the countries that give us our benefits.

I just went across the street to pay a few bucks to fax a letter to my congressman.
My understanding (could be wrong) is that letters sent to congress will be received very slowly (months?) because they need to be checked for toxic agents etc. (US citizens abroad are already toxic…)

Are you kidding me? Someone still does faxes? I guess I need to find a way to do that from my computer without having to print out something and go find a faxing service. I threw my fax out years and years ago! 🙂
@all, I am computer illiterate and cannot recall how I set up my fax on my computer.
I don’t think that a fax sent to a Washington office on a federal issue would be weeded out because you are out of district or country. I sent my fax to a local office as I continue to vote through the local district and wanted to arrange a meeting at the local site.
You won’t like this, but “for the sake of balance” I cc’d my letter to Chuck Schumer by email. The fact that Schumer accepts emails shows good service and that he cares.

While there is no general Congressional office email address, there is one for his campaign office: campaign@billposey.com . Messages of support can be sent there.

Thanks for the fax resource, usxcanada. This could be the means of contacting other government representatives in the USA, with websites not allowing easy access to anyone outside their own constituencies.
I just sent an e-mail to Bill Posey’s campaign office. Hopefully they will relay it along to him. I included a link to the ACA’s RBT video. Even if Mr. Posey doesn’t get my e-mail perhaps it will enlighten his campaign staff a bit. I hope they don’t stop reading at the part where I said “I am Canadian” though. 😉

I just tried it out and sent a fax (copy of my e-mail to Posey’s campaign office) to Posey’s DC congressional office using gotfreefax, and after five minutes I received confirmation that fax was sent.
Since most of my faxes to US government reps would not be over the page or daily maximum limit, the faxes would be free and easy using this site.

I followed your lead, IRSCF — fax successfully received. We’ve all learned something today. We can get in through the back door.
Being one of his constituents, I’ve written to Mr Posey a few times. The only time I ever received any kind of personal response was when his office in Florida said that they were forwarding my letter to his office in DC.
I don’t really know much more about him other than he, along with Rand Paul, support abolishing the IRS and the repeal of the 16th Amendment. He is also in support of the USA remaining the world’s biggest tax haven. It might very well result in political suicide if any actions in support of US persons abroad were to be misconstrued as being in support of offshore tax evasion. My guess is he won’t touch us with a 10 foot pole.
I am informed that the most helpful format for voicing support to Bill Posey’s office is to have the supporters prepare a signed hard copy of a letter addressed to him, and scan it as a PDF file and send it an email attachment. That would best enable his staff to share the letters with other Members and committee staff — and especially with the Committee and Subcommittee chairmen.
I realize it’s a bit more trouble but more useful for Mr. Posey and his staff. In addition to endorsing Mr. Posey’s rejection of additional authority for “repicrocal” Fatca authority and HR 2299, feel free to add inclusion in tax reform of Fatca repeal, residence-based taxation, and whatever else of importance should be part of comprehensive tax reform legislation.

To be clear: in your comments please be sure both to (1) endorse Mr. Posey’s bill, HR 2299 and (2) endorse his denial of additional new authority to Treasury for regulatory mandates on US institutions for “reciprocal” reporting to foreign governments, per his July 1 letter to Secretary Jack Lew. Feel free to add any other encouragements to include in tax reform FATCA repeal and replacing citizen-based taxation with residence-based taxation.
